Having been to Ossining? I'm pretty sure this is the most exciting thing that ever happens there.

I live close by, and I'm pretty sure that would be exciting here, as well.

DarthBrooks [TotalFark] 2007-12-29 03:52:54 PM
Why is she going to all the way to Hawthorne to see movies if she lives in Ossining?

Who peed in her popcorn?

DarthBrooks: Why is she going to all the way to Hawthorne to see movies if she lives in Ossining?

They're right by each other, really, and the Hawthorne theatre gets the movies the Greenburgh one doesn't.

Both beat trying to park in White Plains.

I would head to Lake Mohegan or Jefferson Valley.

She's probably ex-Scarsdale, though, so everything north of 287 is Injun country.

I think she has a valid point. After she wins this one, maybe she could get some kind of law passed that the theaters would have to refund part of the admission price to compensate the patrons for watching something that they didn't pay to see.

Let's declare war on people who declare war on things. Most of them wouldn't know a real war if it ran up and blew a load of shrapnel up their ass.

No. You really should look into some real facts.

It seems like many of you in the Fark community are the same "fark the future" crowd who blast their iPods so loud that people can hear them 20 feet away, even though you're wearing earbuds. You're the people who are going to be stone deaf by 45-50.

I've been in theaters where the volume literally caused pain in my ears. Do you ever notice how performers wear earplugs at concerts? That's because they are smarter than their idiot fans.

Feel free to go deaf, but don't try to take everyone else with you.

Tommy Moo 2007-12-29 05:39:59 PM
Sometimes you have to do what you can, subby. This cliche makes the faulty assumption that fixing all those problems would require the same level of effort as fixing this one. If you could take a minute out of your day to wave your hand and make the world a slightly better place, wouldn't you?

Uh, it's just common sense for artists to wear earplugs. When you're playing a show every other night, you're going to suffer hearing damage if you don't have protection, whereas their fans will only be exposed to that loudness for one night, and so the damage will be minimal.

/still, good idea to wear earplugs if you go out to concerts frequently

Galef said that while at a recent movie at the All Westchester Saw Mill Multiplex in Hawthorne, she noticed how much louder the commercials and previews for upcoming films were than the actual film itself.

"This is not good for the eardrums, and it doesn't need to be this loud," she said.

Sounds like a valid point to me. She'd get even more support if she set her sights on banning commercials before movies, period.

I'd have picked a HERO tag for this article. The theaters squeeze us for $10 minimum for a movie ticket, and then bombard us with ads played at insane volume levels. Then the movie starts and the volume is too low, the lights in the theater are too high, and the film is dusty and scratched.

Unlikey, since that has not recently had a slightly annoying impact on her life.

FTA:Galef said that when she brings her grandson to the movies, he brings along his own earplugs.

"He kind of rebels to the noise," she said.

Then leave the snowflake at home ya dumb broad. Or wait until its on DVD and adjust the farking volume yourself.

YOu need to switch theaters. Most are digital now, thus no scratches at all. But if a theater is still using reels or platters and hand splicing, the film quality is only going to be as good as the handling from the previous theater that had it.

have not been to a movie theater for many years....and the number one reason...THEY ARE NOT LOUD ENOUGH...my sound system at home delivers much louder and realistic sound without kids or $17.00 popcorn

MusicMakeMyHeadPound 2007-12-29 07:09:53 PM
I wish she'd declare war on high ticket prices instead.

I can rent two movies and see it with all my friends for the price of a single admission.

Actually a Federal Law already exists. They are in the OSHA regulations. Unfortunately it is utterly impossible to be in compliance as many of the regulations are mutally exclusive.

Why do people go to movie theaters anymore?

Features that do not start anywhere near on time, over pricing of everything, poor fare, shameless advertisements, ill behaved patrons (ring ring) and now I'm told I shall go deaf.

Did I miss anything?

I would be simultaneously listening to 9 other films.

What grates me about theaters isn't the noise, it's asshats that park all their garbage in the seats in front of them to make others think they're occupied so that they can have a clearer view.

/have been known to sit on their stuff anyway if it's at capacity
