I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane, with all the other rich people, and I want him brought right here with a big ribbon on his head. And, I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no good, rotten, floor-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed, sack of monkey sh** he is! Hallelujah! Holly Sh**! Where's the Tylenol?

Pretty much. They started going downhill after Christmas Vacation.

I remember the National Lampoon magazine was funny in the '70s. It was a opportunity for a horny 7th grade kid to sometimes see some boobies too.

Wow, and I just watched that movie again last night.
Great job subby.

Though this probably won't end with the police singing the national anthem and letting him go...

National Lampoon will distribute "Homo Erectus", a caveman comedy. Should be out soon.

It was not only funny, it was genuinely "edgy", not phony frat-humor edgy like it seems to be now.

Remember "The Appletons" comics? I pretty much learned to read from 1970's-80's NL and Heavy Metal magazine. It shaped my sense of humor and also probably turned me into a sex perv.

Favorite cover of all time:

Nat'l Lampoon turned into just a licensing company in the 90's, selling the name. Here's an article that talks about it that the Fark filters won't let me link.

It had its moments but that was more a case of making several crappy movies and occasionally hitting some paydirt. This is also what made National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 a fairly good film as well.

Of course, to assume that the '80s were always kind to the Lampoon series, one must ignore 'Class Reunion' and 'European Vacation.'

Come on guys.... anyone who RTFA and gets the Lammpoon reference in the headline knows that Vaughn was getting ready to go all Alan Stanwyk on his ass!!!

/FTA - Authorities also found a 5-gallon container full of gasoline, and a cigarette lighter.

I have to agree there.

I have actually been wondering what happened to all of the good comedy writing that we had in the 70's and 80's. We are finally getting some good TV shows (Office, 30 Rock etc) but the movies are just one boob joke after another while they regurgitate the classics with a few twists. Nothing wrong with boob jokes mind you if they are well done (channeling Mel Brooks).

Can anyone name some a couple great comedy flicks from the last 15 years or so that could stack up with Animal House, Blues Brothers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Bustin' Loose, etc etc etc...?????

The two I can think of that I can watch over-and-over and still laugh at are The Big Lebowski and Anchorman.

stabbydoll 2007-12-29 02:43:51 PM
Mostly unrelated, but it reminds me of when I was 18 and a guy in a leather jacket, sunglasses, and a santa hat tried to lure me into his car (with puppies and pom poms as a gift) in a blockbuster parking lot on Xmas, presumably to kidnap/rape/kill me..... good time.

/should have called the police

Anchorman, Human Traffic, maybe Waynes World, Austin Powers and American Pie sort of stack up. Films are a lot more edgy now, stuff like Pulp Fiction, Fight Club and The Truman Show (sorta dark, depending on how you look at it) wouldn't have been made before and and Blade/Matrix couldn't of been made. The money and talent flow to where the biggest tickets are. If you want a laugh there's plenty of opportunity to see people fart on the net.

Office Space
(1999) and Friday (1995 -- the original, not the sequels) would make my list. I also enjoyed Hot Shots and Hot Shots: Part Deux movies from the Zuckers and Harold Ramis' Groundhog Day. If you want to reach back a little further I'd also put Ghostbusters I and II, Airplane and Spaceballs on the list. But Gobobo is right in saying that they just don't make them like they used to.

All of the movies listed in previous posts are solid - I will have to watch the Lebowski... for some reason I missed that one?

I didn't include Spaceballs and Airplae etc since they are pre 1990's.

Office Space and Friday (agreed - the first one) are both very good!

Gobobo - I like the edgy stuff (True Romance FTW), loved the original Matrix but I miss the days when the comedy gold flowed consisted of more than a fart joke.

I'll go with Office Space, but not much else.

Just thought I'd jump in here and say I know the guy in the article. His wife had a screwed up back due to a student attacking her and she had to go to Germany to get an operation to help with the pain because they don't do that particular operation in the US. I can understand being mad, but man, you don't go attacking your boss!

It could be. I watched it a few days ago, but just copy/pasta'd the quote off of a movie quotes site without carefully checking it.
