From IMDB (Citizen Kane):
During the picnic scene towards the end, Welles had to shoot against a back-projection because a location shoot was too costly and time-consuming. The stock footage used for the exterior was taken from King Kong (1933), hence on closer inspection the four birds that fly by are in fact very definite pterodactyls. RKO told Welles to take the pterodactyls out of the shot, but he liked them, and decided to keep them.

The HeraldNet link requires authentication of the worst kind: endless pop ups demanding passwords that just pop up again if you get the password wrong, eventually requiring I kill firefox and lose all those porn windows I had open.

:(

bad heraldnet, bad subby.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive." Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge pterodactyls, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming "Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals? Huh! Huh! Huh! farking pigs."
"Did you say something?"
"Hm? Never mind. It's your turn to drive." No point in mentioning these pterodactyls, I thought. Poor bastard will see them soon enough.

No, he's got it right. The "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal" quote from the headline is from Firefly (or Serenity, I can't remember, but I do know it was Wash saying it).

Not only do some believe that pterodactyls still exist, but there is also the legend of Mokele-mbembe. There have been reports of sightings of Mokele-mbembe in the Congo as far back as the 18th century. It's believed that the animal might be an

First thought (Before RTFA): Did this happen in Texas? I don't know why but pterosaur sightings are numerous in Texas. Also giant birds that look like California condors but can't be because there's no such bird.

Second thought: (After RTFA) Snohomish County. I know that name. This is not the first bit of weird news I've read from there by a long shot.

Afterthought: I wish local newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, etc., would clearly state where they are. I'm sure that 90% of their readers don't need to be told which state they are in, but it sure would help the other 10% of us. Snohomish County could be anywhere except Hawaii, and the Canadian Provinces of Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador.
