The would-be robber had to listen to Reason.

It's a good thing they had an image of a pizza with that article. I don't know what I would have done without it.

For some reason I think that would make for an awesome 'it's not delivery it's digiorno' commercial.

Bravo, subby!

The punks weren't afraid of the gun, so he had to use it. But samurai swords need no demonstration.

/paraphrasing, since I can't find my copy of Snow Crash atm

Pizza delivery guys must make a lot in tips. Otherwise I can't imagine how they'd get people to keep doing it.

InfernalCatfish 2007-12-29 01:06:16 PM
Scary? More like Hero. One less good-for-nothing thug. Good on the pizza boy, and CCW for the win!

Malinki 2007-12-29 01:06:31 PM
Scary? Hero tag broken? Might be early, but the police seem to think it was a righteous shooting, or at least the article doesn't indicate the driver's in trouble.

Pizza guys are ripe for robbery. Not only do they come to you with a pocket full of cash, but they bring dinner too!

macdaddy357 2007-12-29 01:10:13 PM
It's about time a pizza man struck back at armed robbers. Maybe word will get out on the street that they are not soft targets.

Apparently the weapon hierarchy of that book goes: Straight Razor > Glass Knife > Katana > Glass-Tipped Spear > Bamboo Spear > Mini-Gatling Gun > Aerostyled Pistol > Baseball Bat.

I'm sure that like most Farkers, the pizza guy shot the robber, then high fived himself for scoring one. You all just wish you could have been there.

Meanwhile, on planet Earth, exercising self-defense doesn't make you a HERO.

Well, they'd be justified if the pizza was delivered AFTER 30 minutes. Surely, this is all on video.

Favorite snow crash quote:

Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfarker in the world. If I moved to a martial-arts monastery in China and studied real hard for ten years. If my family was wiped out by Colombian drug dealers and I swore myself to revenge. If I got a fatal disease, had one year to live, and devoted it to wiping out street crime. If I just dropped out and devoted my life to being bad.
Hiro used to feel this way, too, but then he ran into Raven. In a way, this was liberating. He no longer has to worry about being the baddest motherfarker in the world. The position is taken.

The guy is his own hero since he saved his own life. Usually, the MO of pizza robbers is to kill the delivery guy. Google if you don't believe me

yeah, but what kind of gun did the driver use on them? What kind of guns did the robbers have?

LocalCynic 2007-12-29 01:28:25 PM
What the hell is up with everyone wanting the Hero tag? Do you people really lust so much for the idea of someone shooting a burglar that every time it happens, you idolize the shooter?

It's pretty ironic that most of the gun nuts out there who insist that there's nothing unusual or off-putting about carrying a weapon, are the same people who go out of their way to fap over any use of a gun in self defense. You can't have it both ways. It's is either a natural defense mechanism like breathing (no hero tag), or it's an unnatural and scary practice (hero tag). Pick one and stick with it.

When I saw the headline started with "Pizza delivery driver fatally shoots would-be robber," I was thinking that it had better end with a Snow Crash reference. I was not disappointed.

So anyone who is self-reliant is a hero? Way to water down the term, turbo.

It does if you hurt the badguys bad enough, ending their criminal careers.

Oh, sorry, forgot. The Driver didn't do what you wanted him to do, which is die, so that you can push for more gun control and other nanny-state bullshiat. How rude for the driver to spoil your plans to profit off of his death.

BalugaJoe 2007-12-29 01:31:25 PM
Great Snow Crash reference.

I guess the guy had poor emotion control.

Captain_Kris 2007-12-29 01:31:30 PM
A friend I knew back when I was stationed at Offutt AFB outside Omaha went to a neighborhood watch meeting and the actor who played the Godfather in the pizza ads showed up.

No wonder crime was low by his place with that kind of neighbor.
