This sure looks like another case of cops using tasers as punishment.

The guy is in a holding cell and not threatening anyone. They could have restrained him easily, but instead chose to taser him.

I'd like to see them charged with assault.

Cops: Do you bite your thumb at ue, sir?

Wackoff: I do bite my thumb.

Cops: ZZZZZZZZTTTTT!!

Wackoff: Don't taze me, Tybalt!

Under these circumstances the cops that misuse the Taser should be placed under arrest and be charged with attempted murder. Better yet....outlaw the taser altogether since it's becoming obvious that cops can't be trusted with them.

The Taser probably saved this man from injuring himself further. I commend this cop for doing the right thing. Statistics have shown the Taser have saved more lives than any other similar devices. I think the Taser should be a standard device for all cops.

Not only is this a repeat, but this submitter fails to realize that tasers are ok to use on people who are endangering others and/or themselves.

What makes you think you know what the subby is thinking? I didn't see the subby making a comment for or against the tazing.

After a dozen DUI's, tazing doesn't seem so outlandish on the 13th.

However, judges 3 through 12 should be included in the tazing.

You sir, are an asshole!

Attempted murder??? Srsly??? Come on... that is just ridiculous.

"cops can't be trusted with them"? WTF - if you can't trust a cop then there is a problem. Not with the tool or method that they are employing but with the individual cop. I don't get the broad stereotype here - "COPS" is not a homogenous group.

As far as tasers go...

These things are doing a PERFECT job.
1)It is much better than deadly force.
2)It allows cops to subdue and restrain someone without having to get into a fist fight or some other dangerous encounter. These things tend to end up with one or both parties involved being injured to some degree. A tasing may hurt like hell while you're being tased but when it is over, it is over...
3)Whether you agree or disagree with when they decide to employ the taser is something you should voice to police policy makers.

He spat in a cops face, stripped and 'exposed himself to several' cops and bit himself. He got off lightly for the spitting, I'm sure the cop wanted to give a royal ass kicking, and could have got away with it if he'd wanted to.

When you kiss those badges do you slip them any tongue? There have been dozens of cases of cops using their tasers inappropriately in the last few months alone. These people work for US and must be held accountable for ANY use of force. I really don't think that biting one's own thumb justifies the (over)reaction he got. Did you even bother to look at the video?

You sir, are an asshole!

I must admit, that was clever. Hope you didn't burn out too many brain cells on that, you don't seem to have THAT many to begin with.

Taser!! Hmm, hmm.
Those cops should have just beat the crap outa him, save the battery.

The real issue is how he managed to get 13 DUIs. Why are the drinking and driving laws so ridiculously tolerant? I'd rather the cops have shot him dead.

I for one am arguing for a taser tag...too many recent taser stories...

ThrobblefootSpectre 2007-12-29 04:17:29 PM
Law enforcement agencies get sued all the time for "allowing" someone to injure themselves or become injured while in custody. Usually by families of a prisoner, rather than the prisoner himself. The officers did the right thing.

To everyone who is biatching about the use of the taser in this case: - either grant cops complete immunity from all injury liability law suits, or allow them to use force to stop a violent prisoner. Honestly, which will it be? You can't have it both ways.

RoxtarRyan [TotalFark] 2007-12-29 04:27:43 PM
To be fair in the pro vs. against taser use, we always hear of the times people are tasered when it really isn't necessary (like that cop who tased a dude before he could even get his license out). We almost never hear of the times it is used properly, and therefore to make a bold statement for or against its use without all the facts is ignorant if one is to only use headlines used on Fark to make a case for one's argument.

/whoa.. I've had too much to drink, sounding logical

Mighty Tighty Whitey 2007-12-29 04:33:19 PM
Borderline case imo..

They shoud have a look into the regulations on tasering people

The "Don't tease me bro" story for example...........

Isn't that kinda like saying one priest raping a child is okay because of so many that aren't? (assuming there actually are many that aren't...)

Boobies in the thread that shows some actual thought in it.

Police have a duty to prevent people under arrest from hurting themselves and/or anyone around them. This includes self mutilation, which is what the dumb fark was doing when tazed.

I'd hate to be a cop in the States. Abused for properly doing your job on a daily basis is not a path to happiness, something alot of you commies are forgetting.

What? God no.. How could you even compare the two? What you did was just say giving someone probation for mass murders is the same as someone who stole a pair of shoes.

I'm sure there are plenty of cases where taser use is authorized and necessary.. since when is child molestation authorized and necessary?

You've got a sick mind. And I doubt you're smuggling plums.

"Restrained him"? That would have involved the officers making physical contact with him, somebody who has already demonstrated that he uses his teeth as a weapon. It's far better to tase him than risk an officer getting bit and contracting HIV or Hepatitis or whatever diseases the guy has.

Tasing people isn't for the subject's safety, it's for the officer's safety.

watox You seem to have missed the whole "use the Taser as a *last resort*" thing. It's not a Tase first, then resolve the situation later tool.

A taser is NOT a "last resort". The officer's FIREARMS would have been their "last resort". Personally, I'd far rather be tased 10 or 15 times than hit upside the head with an ASP or a 6 "D" Maglight. And yeah, I've been tased more than 15 times already.

Around here, "normal" spitting on an Officer is a Class 6 felony, punishable by 1-5 years in the State Pen. If they have HIV and are trying to infect an officer, it's more serious.

Anytime he is caught driving, the car should be crushed. Too many drunk driving convictions, he should be tossed in prison for a few years. Drunk drivers who kill should be shot.

fark that, I hate cops on general principals. Lawyers are much higher forms of life. My divorce attorney is saving my ass. Cops on the other hand have farked me over more times than I care to think about. I toast each dead pig I hear about and pity the worms that have to eat such a foul meal.

The cops are NOT there for public safety, law & order or any of that other bullshiat. They're there to make money for the city & county and to keep you in the system for as long as possible to keep getting money out of you. fark them, fark politicians, fark judges and fark everybody that supports the bastards.
