Dunno, the still photo shown was OBL III, with the phony beard and the face that looks even less like him than the above.

With the way the Iraqis are turning away from Al Quaida due to their brutal recruiting tactics, etc. It sounds less like they have turned a corner and more like they have jumped the shark.

I think he's trying to say that the OBL video is as propagandist as this stupid children's show and we should take both with a half a ton of salt.

The funny thing is, bin Laden is basically in the same position Bush was a year or so ago -- on the ropes, down but not out, because he'd allowed loyalty and ideological purity to eclipse competency as priorities.

The true "surge" success has been less the troops (although, god bless them), and more, the rush of blood to the brain one experiences after breaking a chokehold (Rumsfeld, neo-cons in general).

It's amazing what a competent leadership willing to engage the population on the ground can accomplish, eh?

We're not out of the woods, yet, not by a long shot. But having experienced first-hand life under the US and Al Qaeda, most have decided they like Uncle Sam, warts and all.

The central government is another story altogether, and the place is still a damn house of cards, but it's slowly becoming a more solid house of cards, secured with rubber cement and bits of ribbon.

If I were OBL and still alive, I'd focus on the Afghan / Pakistani side of things. Iraq will become a theocratic state without him. But to have these 2 nations collapse? He'd find far more power, sympathy and support there than anywhere else.

Absolutely.
But Osama's been dead for years, and al Qaeda (the database) was a CIA creation, a collection of the names of the Mujahadeen "freedom fighters" who fought the Soviets in the '80s.

Craptastic 2007-12-28 01:47:16 AM
I truly am not that concerned about him.

I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations.

Train_of_Thought 2007-12-28 01:49:39 AM
I can't understand why everyone wants Osama Bin Laden dead !?

He should be captured and extensively studied to determine how he has managed to cure diabetes and kidney failure with common cave sand.

This man may be the solution to the longevity of the human race, perhaps even immortality. He not only replaced his dialysis with some secret of the Afghani desert, but looks more healthy and youthful with each subsequent video release.

Truly, Osama's secrets could be the salvation of our entire species. We need to befriend him, not condemn him.

I just had a read of the wikipedia article on Bin Laden, and came across this, which I vaguely remember from back then:

"On 23 September 2006, the French newspaper L'Est Républicain quoted a report from the French secret service (DGSE) stating that Osama bin Laden had died in Pakistan on 23 August 2006, after contracting a case of typhoid fever that paralyzed his lower limbs. According to the newspaper, Saudi security services first heard of bin Laden's alleged death on 4 September 2006. The alleged death was reported by the Saudi Arabian secret service to its government, which reported it to the French secret service. [...] American authorities also cannot confirm reports of bin Laden's death, with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice saying only, "No comment, and no knowledge." Later, CNN's Nic Robertson said that he had received confirmation from an anonymous Saudi source that the Saudi intelligence community has known for a while that bin Laden has a water-borne illness, but that he had heard no reports that it was specifically typhoid or that he had died."

I believe it.

spamdog [TotalFark] 2007-12-28 04:24:22 AM
What an inglorious death it must have been for Bin Laden. I bet it sucked for him.

Afternoon_Delight:

This new message (whoever it's from) will be preaching to the converted. In other words, it will be directed towards western leftists and ignorant, brain-washed muslims - pretty much the same thing where the subject of Michael Moore's 'Minutemen' are concerned.

I know, and as a leftist in good standing, I am sure I can speak for all leftists everywhere when I tell you that we have been yearning for this video, probably like you do when Rush Limbaugh suspends himself on a Friday and you have to go three days without knowing what to think! You know what I mean?

How are we leftists going to know what bills in Congress we want passed to help the cause, unless a message is sent to us in coded Arab-speak and then translated by people in the US government that we don't trust. Do you have any idea how hard it is? (Should I have phrased that differently? I know you Republicans are sensitive to that kind of talk.)

I don't know if you know this or not, but all of us leftists are all getting together at Starbucks, after we have our Volvos cleaned, to have a Latte and watch this video. I don't think any of us could be more excited if we were pre-teens again backstage at a Helena Montana concert with Justin Timberlake pulling off her wardrobe, if you catch my drift.

Anyway, I have to run. I'm the guy in charge of lining up all the lies for the New York Times so we can undermine our troops and surrender to the terrorists on the deck of their battleship Al Queida.

Oh, so YOU'RE that guy! Damn man, you beat me out for that job. And I thought I had a kick-ass resume. Congratulations. Now I'm stuck in this crappy dead end leftist position of forcing all women to get abortions and all men to get gay married. It's not as prestigious or noble, but it has to be done.

Wow, it's a small world!

In fact, I originally applied for your job and was turned down. Apparently
I was not as dedicated to the men marrying men thing (I made the personal
choice to marry a woman) even though my interviewer gave me very high
recommendations in the abortion department.

I guess you were more qualified than I, all around, though.

Will you be joining us at the national surrender the country to the
terrorists meeting on Wednesday? Also, I'm sure you doing the Starbucks
meeting so perhaps I'll see you there. I'll be wearing the white shirt,
just in case I need a white flag to surrender to any terrorists I meet
along the way.

It never hurts to be prepared.

Well, my thing about the getting men gay married thing is that leaves more single women for me. Plus, since I'll be forcing abortions anyway, I'm pretty much in the clear to ride bareback all I want, unless I get a woman (or multiple womens) with AIDS, which would be impossible because only gays get AIDS.

And we'll all be wearing white shirts just in case. See you there.

/we should totally have a "Liberal Farkers surrender to the terrorist day" themed Fark party. In like, Boston or San Francisco or D.C. or something.

Now we know why you didn't get the job. And I thought approaching it as an intern would be the best way. Stupid me! I hadn't had a successful car bombing so I didn't qualify.

Why is it whenever one of these tapes gets released support suddenly rises for the people who halted the search for the guy?

The administration's supporters have short, little spans of attention. They're more interested in starting the next war than finishing the last.

ilambiquated 2007-12-28 05:14:21 PM
Bin Laden is a lying piece of shiat who has never had any organization at all, and does not at all represent radical Islam. I have never even seen proof he really "masterminded" 9/11, although he did have some hand in it - he does have money. Anyway, it was easy enough to do, once you find 20 dumbasses.

The idea he is running a war in Iraq is just stupid. How is all this supposed to work? Does he have a James Bond style super high tech secret underground hideout?

His best friend in the world is G W Bush and the rest of the Republican Party, who give him tons of free publicity.

KC Critic 2007-12-29 05:28:59 AM
You know what I never understand about people who believe that OBL is still alive and making movies is how they think that the guy supposedly responsible for the most complicated and devastating terrorist attack on US soil can't seem to produce a film that is worth a damn. The production value of the man's movies is nil.

I mean for crying out loud, the last movie he made didn't even have moving pictures for more than half of the film IIRC. What is it about video recording, editing and production that makes is act like kryptonite to the super-bad OBL? It is like his film crew is on permanent stupid mode whenever they are making films. WTF? How can anyone believe that this bullshiat group carried out 9/11?

They were patsies.

Nudge 2007-12-31 04:51:37 PM
Osama's afraid of Al-Jazeera because it permits several different sides to debate without proctor, creating actual free speech (which dissolves violence).

Americans are afraid of Al-Jazeera because it's foreign and has a funny name that begins with "Al".

Sound familiar?
