FTFA:

``Who are we going to set on the road - what man are we going to set on the road - to lead us and to stand against this assault?' he asked, emphasizing the word 'man.' He couched his comments by saying ``I say the word man advisedly. Now I've got a daughter that's going to be president some day, I know it, and I am all for a woman president, just not this year, not next year.'

Yup, keep pushing it back. Same for the darkies too?

Yup, what we need in office in these troubled times is another old and senile figurehead Republican who can't even be bothered to campaign for his sad ass.

One F Jef 2007-12-27 01:53:40 AM
Hell, if he keeps at this long enough he may spark some more bra burnings, and you better believe that if your campaign promise is saggy boobs; you got no vote from me, cowboy.

Well to be honest, I gotta agree with the dude on this one.

/Tough coming up with a man who ought to be president next year, for that matter.

How can you rebuild a military that gets more than 1/2 of all taxes collected?

Well said. I'm having trouble staying with one candidate over the other and I'm voting Democrat.

skookum 2007-12-27 02:08:08 AM
Actually, Clinton won't be allowed to become President because of her gender, but because she hasn't shown any initiative as to how to conduct the War on Terror. Neither does Thompson, I'm afraid. Hillary's against-the-grain socialist tendencies ultimately disqualify her as an endorseable choice, not for those whose vote really counts in this country.

It's most likely going to be Romney or perhaps Guiliani's candidacy can be resuscitated to make for a much-needed Republican competitive edge, but no once again the Democrats think they can get elected and end "Bush's war" but the truth is that it is all our war and sending the troops home is simply not an option.

Your Faith is Creepy [TotalFark] 2007-12-27 02:09:29 AM
C'mon. Why should Fred Thompson's opinions on political prospects be taken seriously by anyone with more brains than Terri Schiavo? He (allegedly) thinks *he* ought to be our next President.

Hillary's against-the-grain socialist tendencies

Examples?

skookum 2007-12-27 02:45:24 AM
It actually goes without saying that Hillary has suggested some kind of largesse for the middle class, not to mention threatening to remove or tamper with oil subsidies, and subjecting every American to an ill-thought-out, half-baked, utopian concept of "health care" (read=a massive, ineffective government red-tape money pit) without any sort of consideration to privatizing it, which would probably draw more votes her way, incidentally. No, she wants to behave like some Presidential Mother Theresa when America should continue swallowing the needed bitter medicine of this administration. You can't fight terror while struggling to dismantle eight years of policy and go pro-socialism in this day and age. It really can't be done. We need a candidate that is going to sit down, shut up and do what needs to be done to further the mission in the Middle East and at home.

El_Dan 2007-12-27 03:13:51 AM
Fred Thompson really has a knack for viciously pandering to the worst impulses of the worst voters.

Not much else to say there, except we won't have to hear about him any more in a few weeks.

If my posts seem a bit flustered, it is because I am not seeing a general call-to-arms that should be here in these threads. If anything, proponents of these kinds of debate should be eschewing the current candidates altogether and discussing how to continue the current administration, but the policitally-correct angle assumes that elections are decided by the people and the agenda on the table is thankfully a continuation of current policy.

The truth is that, until some major strides are made in the War on Terror, we should keep the idea of "democracy" as bare-bones as possible until a noticeable improvement in our fight against the enemy is seen.

Do you know what courage is? If our way of life is worth anything, if it is worth having, it is worth embracing in the shadow of terror. If we are to be courageous, and not cowardly, we shall embrace democracy in all of its fullness without fear.

Otherwise, we are pussies, and do not deserve freedom.

Thompson is technically correct (the best kind of correct!). There will be no female president in 2008.

A female president-elect, however, is a distinct possibility.

This makes it clear - if such proof were even needed - that you don't support the freedoms, rights, and responsibilities in the constitution.

You are clearly a traitor, because in this you have the same goals as the terrorists. Do you give them money and other support, or do you just support them with your Internet subversion?

Why do you hate America, you terrorist traitor?

I think Darrell Hammond's impersonation of Fred on SNL sums-up his run pretty well: "How bad do I want to be president? On a scale of 1 to 10, I'm about a 6." (new window)

This post confuses me. As the president you swear an oath to defend the Constitution. And I would also infer that they also swear to defend the citizenry as well. So our president is supposed to say, "Hey you bunch of puss's, step up on your own, becaus your country isn't going to defend you." That's kind of his job. I totally agree that we as a country should man up, but at the same time we should not expect our government not to defend our citizens for harm by a foreign government or power.

Who's the man for the job? Damned if I know right now.

I am still amazed that people think we can win a "war" against a tactic. Terrorism is a tactic used by nearly every army, militia, group of thugs, etc. Hell even some fraternities use it in toned down form (hazing). Just like the Wars on Drugs, Poverty, Obesity, etc. it is nothing more than a way to control through fear and appeals to patriotism.

There is no way to win a war against terrorism.

I used to hope that you were just a really good troll, but alas, you are just another fascist wannabe. You apparently don't even see the irony of your suggestions. THEY (emphasis for you) attacked us because they hate our freedoms. Those are the words of your savior GW Bush. So your suggestion is to give up most of our freedoms for an indeterminate amount of time to fight a war against a tactic.

You sir, have become the enemy and you don't even see it!

Well he is right anyways. There are no qualified women currently in a position to run for president. Hillary Clinton may be running for president, but she is by no means qualified to be president of anything, much less the United States.

I'm sure people will call him a sexist for this, but it is perfectly ok for Hillary to ask to be president simply for the fact that she is a woman (or that she is not a man).

I'll bet that a woman president will come from a conservative base. These liberal clowns in the democrat party can't expect to get anywhere by offering children candy. Thats pretty much what we've been hearing from all 3 of the democrat front runners. Free money for everyone, free healthcare for everyone, free food for everyone etc etc

They are all nice sounding, idealistic policies but these candidates never even offer the slightest hint as to how they are going to implement their ideas. Probably because the ideas are not feasible. They will destroy the economy and they will destroy the essence of individual liberty which is the heart of this country.

So there you have it, Fred Thompson is on the ball on this one. The only woman who is running for president is doing nothing but handing out cookies and treats, and reminding everyone that she wants to be the first female president.

It almost makes me like Fred Thomposon.

I like Fred, however he doesn't have as much money as the others to spend. People just end up voting for whoever spends the most money.

It works out poorly for conservatives to keep electing people who spend a lot of money to get elected, because their solution to staying in office is the same. That and the religious wing of the party who would elect Stalin if he went to their church regularly.

Unfortunatly that is true, but atleast the candy being handed out by the republicans does not threaten to turn our economy upside down, and to strip away some of the most basic principles of liberty that we have enjoyed since the founding of our country.

I'll probably vote for the libertarian party as I normally do anyways. I live in MA so my vote isn't going to mean squat anyways. I'd rather show support for my third party than pat some mediocre republican on the back.

Like...

Free Speech?
Separation of Church and State?
...etc?

I'll give you economy, but as far as "Civil Liberties" are concerned, I'm a lot more scared of what the GOP are doing.

Actually, she is. If Bushy boy can run the country into the ground- then she can, too. He was *far* less qualified. He's relied on those who served with daddy. Reagan wasn't much better in the qualified department.

She's qualified. She's more republican than democrat- and yet the republicans are batshiat insane about hating her. I really do think they are afraid of having a woman in power. What is so wrong with having a woman in power?

When have you seen a presidential candidate be honest? If they were, they'd be laughed at (see: Ron Paul). We don't want that- we want sugar coated 'toughness' and 'personal responsibility' and all that- knowing full well the moment they get into office they won't do shiat for anyone except their cronies.

Bullshiat. Libs love to throw out social program with a nice name attached. Their base eats it up because it usually involves free stuff for them. Who will actually pay for it and how much they will have to pay part doesn't ever seem to make the TV commercials. (Walter Mondale is the exception)
