Least funny and most obnoxiously stupid internet cliche ever. The rest of the Intertubes seems to have figured that out at least 6 months ago, but not Fark! Jesus people, let it die already.

I refuse to vote without these as options:

Gap Band - Party Train
Ray Parker Jr - Ghostbusters
And not one Weird Al video.

Unright 2007-12-25 03:14:48 PM
Voted for Devo. The "Rickroll" meme grew old and stupid long, long ago.

memilkisyummy 2007-12-25 03:15:07 PM

You did see you get 10 votes...I still didn't vote for Assley.

Makh [TotalFark] 2007-12-25 03:52:10 PM
I would have but then he started 'Rickrolling' everyone, and ya'know that's not nice.

If perhaps he had been aharolling everyone, I may have enjoyed it more. Or barrelrolling.

/What no Weird Al?

DrBenway [TotalFark] 2007-12-25 04:06:27 PM
Lot of MIAs from their list... Devo had better vids than "Whip It," for instance. No "In A Big Country"? Dumb video, but semi-iconic for its time. No Tracey Ullman "They Don't Know," no Costello, no Wall of Voodoo, no Echo & the Bunnymen. And a bunch of other stuff that's fallen through the cracks in my memory for the moment, I'm sure.

No they did get that one, thankfully. And "Shock The Monkey."

But no "Elvis Is Everywhere." Now THAT is wrong!

no Separate Ways?

Come on!

studebaker hoch 2007-12-25 07:10:41 PM
The "rickroll" phenomena is so mainstream now there's even a wikipedia article on it (new window).

ClicheGuevara07 2007-12-25 07:33:21 PM
Voted for Public Enemy. fark Rick Astley.

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2007-12-25 07:37:36 PM
There are some seriously good choices on the list, and getting to pick 10 is seriously sweet. Besides Rick, also voted for Alphaville's Forever Young and some others.

/I actually like Never Gonna Give You Up

DrBenway: But no "Elvis Is Everywhere." Now THAT is wrong!

Mojo just leaned over to me, grinned like a Pogue on St. Pat's, and said, "Ahhh, hey man, BUY THAT MOTHERFARKER A DRINK!"

Gulper Eel [TotalFark] 2007-12-25 08:52:08 PM
Damn. I wanted to vote for "Bastards of Young" and "Sussudio" and neither one of them was there.

Anarchangel 2007-12-25 09:12:06 PM
No Iron Maiden? Screw that list.

Just like the crazy bastard to make you pay.

Anarchangel 2007-12-25 09:13:43 PM
Let's see, the albums

Iron Maiden
Killers
The Number of the Beast
Piece of Mind
Powerslave
Somewhere in Time
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

All of those fall into "80s".

Anarchangel 2007-12-25 09:15:06 PM
My personal pick as to Best Song of the 1980s is Caught Somewhere in Time, so I'm really getting a kick out of this Maidenless list, if you hadn't already noiced. :P

motherbuster 2007-12-25 09:23:47 PM
Look, God damnit. RickRolling is irrelevant. Lord Astley is the keeper of light and the bringer of darkness. He is the alpha and the omega, as well as the phi, the beta, and the sigma. When Freddy Krueger goes to sleep at night, he checks under his bed for Rick Astley.

Basing your vote on the RickRoll phenomenon is misguided. Don't let us down. Or run around. Or dessert us.

Yes. Please do not fling pastries, cakes, cookies, or any other after-meal nosh in our general directions.

I felt so sure that the link would lead to a website that had nothing to do with Rick Astley. For symmetry's sake.

Zombie Hitler 2007-12-25 11:16:58 PM
This whole meme has been lost on me. I kinda wish I didn't love the hell out of that song.

shrimper 2007-12-25 11:47:14 PM
"Vote "Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up" as the greatestest song of the 80s"

Umm NO.

Why is it that people who were either really young or not around at all in the 80's need to tell the rest of us who were around (&coherent) in the 80's what the best song of the 80's was?

PopeSchmope 2007-12-25 11:50:17 PM
Congrats, Subby. You've said exactly the words required to make sure that I never click on that link.

Gulper Eel: Damn. I wanted to vote for "Bastards of Young" and "Sussudio" and neither one of them was there.

"Bastards of Young" is the greatest music video ever. Really.

BuckTurgidson 2007-12-26 12:09:54 AM
Not a chance. Easily found dozens better.

New Order, True Faith FTW.

Nice to see they have "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits,
but what about "Brothers in Arms"? Link (new window)
or, hell, even "Skateaway"? Link (new window)

What about that early 80's classic "Wonderin'" by Neil Young?
Link (new window)

Or "Big Time" by Peter Gabriel
Link (new window)

Or "Mama" by Genesis
Link (new window)

Or "Learning to Fly" by Pink Floyd
Link (new window)

Not one of those was a RickRoll. I'm disappointed.

Lurkerbunny 2007-12-26 01:16:25 AM
You get to choose ten, you know. And yeah, I'm a memewhore because I voted for Rick. And several others, including Dead or Alive.

Fark yeah.

Third_Uncle_Eno 2007-12-26 01:16:36 AM
I'm sorry to disappoint you, Zero0o, but unlike some Farkers, I'm not one to RickRoll. LOL :-)

/ looking at it again, it kinda looked like a RickRoll setup, didn't it, though?
LOL
[what's behind door #3?]
LOL.

Rickrolling on the internet has gotten old. I prefer to Rickroll in real life. Almost every bar has one of those internet jukeboxes these days. For only $1 you can share the joy that is Rick with lots of drunken strangers. You just have to do it quick, so no one sees you standing there looking for it. You can instantly tell who your fellow nerds are by looking for people who are laughing and looking around the bar. Normal people either ignore it or just look confused.

FlyingJ 2007-12-26 01:48:54 AM
DandamanFL You did see you get 10 votes...I still didn't vote for Assley

Yes but my shop steward points out in these cases if you only vote for Rick your vote is that more powerful.
