Loses points for playing a guitar out of tune.

Tell Al he reminds me a lot of Kottke in all the good ways. :)

had a very Phil Keaggy vibe to it.

i'm also completely floored that this wasn't a video of a 15 year old shredding on an Ibanez with 12 layers of delay (as I was sure it would be when reading the headline)

If you like this you should also check out his "Sweet Child of Mine" cover. Very cool stuff.

Those are some serious fingernails.

Badafuco 2007-12-25 10:55:55 PM
You could do a lot of blow with fingernails like that.

Check out his site; there's some nice stuff on there, as well.

Agreed, but impressive nonetheless!

Obscured by Clouds 2007-12-26 01:16:46 AM
Agreed, I was blown away with the sound, but it takes a certain kind of balls to have nails like that, and that kind I don't have.

Leave me alone, please go away, leave me alone....

But dang... it's guys like him that make me remember why I will never be a pro guitarist. Props to him. That was awesome.

MrWhipee: Loses points for playing a guitar out of tune.

That was actually a fluke, I saw him perform live, and this song is done in the middle of a 5 piece performance that he does without stopping, so he winds up retuning the guitar mid flow during the transition between songs, on this recording the guitar slipped back out of tune mid song and wouldn't stay, and he had to switch guitars after the piece was done.

Which, I think, makes it all the more impressive

he's way out of tune and his thumb over the top technique goes against every rule of proper playing.

Yeah, I just realized I got my first Greenlight,

WOOT, Finally.

"Proper playing" for whom? I've seen Hendrix do that, same with Richard Thompson.

Same with bluegrass and other forms of fingerpicking. Sometimes you have to, and sometimes people think they know better.

Tell that to Richie Havens.
