Nice to see that Mexico has their own version of Teddy Kennedy. Equality at last!

Good. What happened to MacColl was a tragedy, but how it was handled was an injustice.

/saw her at the Mercury Cafe in Denver back in the early 90's

swahnhennesy: Exactly.

Damn
good songwriter. Think something along the lines of Elvis Costello or Ray Davies. Should've made it big in the US but she didn't have that shallow bimbo/freak/slut/trainwreck thing going on so the suits weren't interested.

This'll help.

I know this woman music. I bought her CD after I heard it from a co-worker. Maybe it was the story of how she died, etc. Bad way to have to go. Back in the 80s this woman was an up and coming pop star who was a bit inventive I guess. I wouldnt care if she were white or black or asian....its just tragic.

How is this even possible?

Why do people ask questions?

If you are reading this it means you are on the internet in the first place. Is it possible to be reading a submission on Fark and NOT be aware of "Google" or "Wikipedia" ????

It takes the same amount of time to look someone up as it does to submit a question.

ukiah: First off, who?

A great musician from the 80's. You might have heard her singing with Morrissey, the Pogues, Talking Heads, Big Country and she released some fine albums of her own.

She was divorced from and had 2 sons by the producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Talking Heads, Phish, Peter Gabriel)

Ted Kennedy.

Never heard of her.

Here's a pic. news.bbc.co.uk

Will check out her music though. If Ray Davies liked it, that's enough for a good listen.

Feel free to make this a redhead thread.

Idiot.

Good luck in getting the Mexican authorities to handle this correctly. They're almost as incompetent as the Boulder, CO police department.

I just saw the video for "Fairytale of NY" on tv yesterday and I was going to look up the female singer and see what she's doing nowadays. Sad story.

always thought "Electric Land Lady" was a great name for an album but god i hate "Fairytale of NY" - much prefer A New England (pops)

poor Kirsty - horrible way to die

:(

Here's another favorite: "Don't Come The Cowboy With Me, Sonny Jim"

For everyone tired of hearing "Fairytale of New York," here's a clip of The Pogues with Kirsty singing "Dirty Old Town." (with Joe Strummer backstage interlude and Shane crash-landing the end of the song)

And here's a goofy vid of her singing and looking quite beautiful with Billy Bragg on "Sexuality."

A guilty pleasure, I know, but I've always loved this song which she wrote; wish there was a clip of her singing it herself, but here's the "hit" version by Tracey Ullman: "They Don't Know"

(all with pops)

It's weird to me now, but I had a HUGE crush on Tracey Ullman after "They Don't Know."

It didn't take, though.

Damn, I didn't realize the grocery store where I bought my buddy his beloved "Indio" beer in Mexico was owned by that guy. The beer is great & hence, unavailable in the USA of course

OMG A WHITE GIRL DIED!

I'm glad someone said someting for this statement. I did write something before I posted a few days ago...but I toned it down and bit my tongue.
