All those soldiers should be required to adopt all the war orphans.

PacMan8326 2007-12-23 06:54:52 PM
My question is, will he still continue to raise his adoptive son in the faith of his birth, or is he going to try and convert him?

At 13, he's doubled his weight to 111 pounds.

Sounds like he is fitting in just fine in Wisconsin.

Bet he was a Democrat. Those Republicans are not so much inclined for compassion to brown skinned people.

kajoob 2007-12-23 07:00:24 PM
"Southworth's decision was cemented in spring 2004, while he and his comrades watched Mel Gibson's film, "The Passion of the Christ." Jesus Christ's sacrifice moved him. He imagined meeting Christ and Ala'a in heaven, where Ala'a asked: "Baba, why didn't you ever come back to get me?""

"Everything that I came up with as a response I felt ashamed. I wouldn't want to stand in the presence of Jesus and Ala'a and say those things to him."

So he did it because he's a Christian? Well, if there's one thing I have learned from Atheist farkers, it's that this guy is a complete douchebag.

Oh, I was just thinking about this scene in Gandhi where he told a guy that the only way he could make up for his sins was to adopt an orphan from his enemy's side, and raise him as his parents would have. Seems to me like if you're going to adopt an adolescent from another country, you should try to respect their heritage while you do it. Considering his deeply-held Christian beliefs, if he still managed to give his new son the option of worshipping in the manner to which he was accustomed, I'd respect him all the more.

Still, what he did is really nifty regardless.

PacMan8326: or is he going to try and convert him?

There are some Christians in Iraq, former Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz is a Christian, so while most likely the boy is a Moslem, it's not a given that he is.

How does one have faith at birth?

Standing before you is a very slippery slope.

Good on him. CP is a terribly difficult thing to deal with, even in the western world with all of our modern conveniences and medical technology.

/Notice that most of the trolling so far is all 'pre-emptive strikes'? Clearly that strategy has worked so well they want to keep it up.

The kid could be a part of the Christian minority, there is a sizable Christian population in larger cities like Baghdad.

HowlingPook 2007-12-23 07:15:44 PM
I think the article said he was in a Catholic orphanage and was found on the street at age 3. Probably more RC than Muslim.

I never explain a pun in its host post. Let it stew for a while. If the pun is of sufficient pungency, winces will follow soon enough. If it is too obscure or subtle (as yesterday all mine were) people just think you can't spell.
