Yeah, because the rest of the educated world thinks Fox is an authoritative, insightful, inquisitive institution thriving on freedom of opinion and expression. That's the ticket.

Say it often enough and you too might get to be a guest "expert" on a Fox TV show. In between re-runs of stories about axe-murders on the loose with dancing bikini-clad party-goers in the background.

Murdoch (and the Fox company) are about making money. They found a market in people who want the news to have a conservative slant. If this did not generate a profit then it would be a different product.

Rupert Murdoch may use this to his own ends whenever possible, but he is a business man before anything else. So no, it is not surprising that a Fox-owned paper would publish an editorial like this.

You may be surprised to find out that moderates and the Left handle seeing something they dislike on television a little bit differently than you may be used to. There are no cries from the pulpit, organized letter writing campaigns to the FCC to pull the license of the offending network, no calls for congressional hearings questioning the legality of said programming. Nope. The Center and the Left use a magic little remote control button to make the bad men go away, and then move on with their lives. If more people on the Right used this simple method, they'd have more time to put into keeping their wives from finding out about their boyfriends and truckstop blowjobs.

This is what science actually believes:

In the beginning, we were all fish. Okay? Swimming around in the water. And then one day a couple of fish had a retard baby, and the retard baby was different, so it got to live. So Retard Fish goes on to make more retard babies, and then one day, a retard baby fish crawled out of the ocean with its...
...mutant fish hands... and it had butt sex with a squirrel or something and made this retard frog-sqirrel, and then *that* had a retard baby which was a... monkey-fish-frog... And then this monkey-fish-frog had butt sex with that monkey, and that monkey had a mutant retard baby that screwed another monkey... and that made you!
So there you go! You're the retarded offspring of five monkeys having butt sex with a fish-squirrel! Congratulations!

tgregory 2007-12-23 06:43:28 PM
actually... christmas has everything to do about christ. the reasons behind the date christmas was chosen, however, were not about trying to pinpoint the actual date of christmas but to distract from saturnalia.

Exactly. Most people don't realize that Fox's entire business strategy is to shatter taboos; any political slants are a means, not an end. It goes way back. Married with Children and the Simpsons offended conservative sensibility a lot more than liberal. And keep in mind, Fox News hired Geraldo. Real conservative move there.

If you want proof that there is (or, rather, was) a liberal news media bias, look at Fox. Back in the mid 90s, what was the best way to have your news network shatter taboos? Have it be conservative, of course. Ergo, Fox news.

And WTF is with all these people who think they're being original by rehashing the same old tired crap about Christmas being pagan. Do they think they're being clever? Do they think they're unraveling some kind of mystery? Your average white trash Joe might not have any conception that Christmas and all its tranditions weren't created out of thin air by Jesus, but any relatively alert person has heard this argument repeatedly. And, frankly, all most no one cares, unless you have some sort of point to make and this information somehow helps you to make it (one way or another), in which case you're probably an asshole.

1) Liberal != hate Christmas; Some libs are just as retarded for x-mas hype and so-on as your most stereotypical right-winger.

2) There are conservatives, even conservative xtians, who have a real problem with x-mas or how x-mas is observed and heavily associated with commerce.

3) There are a lot of reasons for liberals and conservatives to dislike FOX, but since FOX's 9 (at least FOX news's) primary audience self identifies as "conservative" (you know, the people who say they are against "big government" etc, and yet have managed to spend more money than any previous administration in history even accounting for inflation; real "conservative") aka: "easily duped morons" the only criticism the recognize is that percieved as coming from "liberals" because they can;t very well admit that there are a lot of sensible conservatives who have a problem with FOX's hypocrisies and outright lies.

Christmas was created to usurp a pagan holiday to facilitate the conversion of the heathens. And...this is news...how? We already know this. It's well-established.

Why the hell do we need 20 topics during the month of December on this?

You can point out all the apparent 'flaws' in the holiday all you want, but the fact of the matter is, if we choose to celebrate it to celebrate Christ, no amount of history, or pagan origins or anything is going to change that.

It's no different than celebrating someone's birthday on a day that isn't their actual day of birth because you have to work, or you can't party that day.

When it stops being funny to the rest of us then such articles will stop getting published.

Same thing goes with jokes about the monkey president or Ann Coulter's sex change.

The same reason there are 15 Ron Paul threads each day: They draw hits and page views.

Nothing changes. You could sum it all up in the initial post. But we're all here posting, aren't we?
