This is a simple problem to fix. Everyone must document on their monthly statement the business reason for the purchase, and their manager must sign and approve that documentation.

If fraud is discovered, the employee AND the manager who approved the charge lose their job. period.

works at our company.

if you average it out, the ratio of hot girls that attend cons are very low, and the ones that are hot have tons of lecherous men sleazing all over them.

if you average it out, the female con-goer weight comes out to about 190.

Sounds like real life to me. Not just dragonCon.*

Some companies intentionally build their expense accounting system so it depends on a certain level of trust. Honest employees appreciate it, and an employee who is tempted to cheat will think they are getting away with it.

It's pretty hard to fire an employee for laziness, incompetence, or just being a jerk. But that type will often be cheating on their expenses. So you just do a careful audit and fire them for stealing. The documentation is right there, caught red-handed, no defense.

Much of the university/academic stuff I bet is easily justifiable--travel to conferences, in which entire departments are expected to attend, and book orders from Amazon. The porn, though, that's just stooopid.

Well, fansubbing and scanlating are technically illegal...they could justify DragonCon by saying they were investigating copyright infringement...

And Williams Street commits crimes against humanity with every new series, and they're usually at DC...

Why is the newspaper being a pussy? I'd like to see a sort-link on that database that lists the charges by employee name. From the looks of this I'd say firing is in order for most but arrest and criminal prosecutiion is in order for a whole bunch of them. Why the dancing around here? Are we talking a "racial issue?"

FTA: At colleges and universities, the cards are funded from a variety of sources, including athletic associations, National Science Foundation grants and student fees.

Those sources don't sound like all of it comes from Georgia tax payers.

I love how in the list of potentially suspicious charges, they show a charge of $216 to Planned Parenthood by a university. Planned Parenthood does a LOT more than provide abortion services- they also offer, among other things, support materials like educational pamphlets, safe sex kits (a condom, a dental dam, a couple gloves and materials) to college activities organizations for safe sex education. THAT charge is really not as suspicious as the prude who put it on the list thinks it is.

Half the charges they noted on the front page of the AJC this morning were likely not fraudulent either. Georgia Tech had the worst offender in the state, some admin assistant in the management school racked up like $40,000+ in expenses for cell phones, car repairs, diamond rings and a few other things. The system basically had no oversight and the cardholder was responsible for purchasing for a large group of people. With a cursory monthly sign-off on expenses it was easy to start buying personal items too.

Items like $657,000 at CF are not the fraudulent items. Schools cater numerous functions and pretty much everyone I go to has CF nugget trays. Listing the company and the charge only is farking stupid in my opinion and will only lead to misinforming people about what's really happening.

A lovely young lass named Karen used to show up at the costume contests of Science Fiction conventions wearing as little as she could get away with. Her costume sometimes covered about 2 square inches. If that.

At least she was consistent with some early pulp magazine illustrations by such greats as Hanes Bok, Virgil Finlay, Kelly Freas and Stephen Fabian. A few well-placed jewels...

Some of the girls at the dawn look alike contest at D*Con actually look pretty good (Mostly the twins who worked at the Jail who Anthony Daniels flirted with, and I think we're on stage last year), but 95% of them are bat shiat crazy.

I administer a (not Georgia) state agency. All of our credit card statements (three a month - one per employee) are read and initialed by me and two of my trustees before the bill can be paid. Those statements are sent with an itemized accounting of which line item will be billed AND receipts. A little oversight goes a long way. I realize we're small, but if you're serious about stopping wasteful spending and fraud, then you make it work. There's no excuse for not keeping this under control, except laziness.

Commence with the government employee/lazy jokes. I'll try not to get defensive.

simpsonfan 2007-12-23 06:32:07 PM
Easier to just cancel all the cards. These government 'workers' have proven they can't be trusted.

which is a fine weight for a reasonably athletic female human who won't be hitting the Paris runways anytime soon. Your life will go a lot smoother and you'll be a lot happier once you realize that movie stars are not shaped like normal humans, and no matter how hard you try, if you don't look Like George Clooney you ain't getting Scarlet Johansen.

Besides the slightly bigger girls don't act like they are doing you a favor by letting you fark them, so they tend to be a lot more open-minded and willing when it comes to experimentation.

That said, my most memorable Dragon Con experience involved a famously smoking hot Sci-fi TV series actress, her girlfriend, (at a time when it wasn't publicly known her affection went that way) and a BDSM party.

Used to work at Mac's Beer & Wine. It's possible that the purchase there was for a legimate purpose. There are several groups affiliated with GT that could throw functions to ply donors or sponsors with booze. At least it was allowable back when I was there.

190? really? I'm 6'4", and my goal is to get down to 175. At 190 I'd be in the upper reaches of "normal weight" on the BMI scale.

I can't imagine a large percentage of women are taller than me.
