It must really hurt when an opposing candidate has more passionate followers.

If you want a random sampling, do a random poll, don't just toss up an internet poll and complain about the results.

They still need to explain how Ron Paul supporters spoofed that $6.3 million on December 16th.

This sounds like a job for Rick Romero.

"They posted links to the polls on their internet forum, allowing them to easily access the poll!"

I love how Alan Keyes is polling at 4.9%. He's tied with Mitt Romney, and .2% behind John McCain.

If you look at this site, you will see that it is dedicated almost completely to taking down Ron Paul. Some of the so-called "facts" they issued about White Supremacist have already been proven to be lies and fabrications.

detatched_sr 2007-12-22 04:22:30 PM
Is this really surprising? I've been tracking a few different candidate's forums and they all do this. RP supporters are just more driven to vote in the polls because they feel underrepresented in the media.

I noticed this, you would think they would be going after the democrats but they are really dedicated in destroying ron paul. Why would they care so much, the guy barely polls over 1 to 5 percent in polls?

One set of internet nerds going after another.

Oh wait, I mean obviously they wouldn't go after him if they didn't think he was a viable threat.

LGF? I guess because their audience is conservative / libertarian and Paul is courting the same voters with an isolationist platform.

I have read quite a bit of political history over the years and have always been something of a centrist. Socially liberal, fiscally conservative. I belong to the ACLU -and- the NRA.

After watching some of the Ron Paul videos on Google, I have to admit that I find myself becoming a convert. That's not to say that I agree with -everything- the man says, but he really does make some excellent points. I may end up switching my registration to Republican despite the fact that it skeeves me to do so.

Arnold T Pants 2007-12-22 04:42:59 PM
Spoof? Because they copy and paste a link in the address bar instead of clicking on it? Submitter, and LGF, you are retarded.

21-7-b 2007-12-22 04:44:24 PM
the people at lgf tend to be basically neocon puppets. they think they are fighting a rearguard action to save america and israel from defeat-through-liberalism

any discuusion inside the gop that threatens that is absolutely the opposite to what they are trying to achieve. inside their paranoid little minds, paul must seem like the antichrist, and, by encouraging discussion, probably seems to them to ruin their projecty

they're a bunch of little fascist cnuts, rallying behind a cartoon football, but a bunch of little fascist cnuts nonetheless

OMG! I broke the link! Now, according to idiots on LGF, your registration will be spoofed because you have to paste the url in the address bar, or something like that. Does anyone know the point of the article?

Not having it be an actual link, doing the cut-and-paste instead of just clicking it simply means that the "Referer" header doesn't get sent (it's misspelled in the spec: referer). That only means that it looks like you typed the address into the browser, for all intents and purposes, rather than clicking a link to get there (incidentally, this is how places like Image Bucket or whoever are able to keep you from hotlinking an image right in a thread)

All that said -- that does nothing to say whether one could vote more than once in a poll -- presumably they poll software is tracking IP and perhaps tossing a cookie on. Easy enough to delete a cookie, but would certainly take a few moments to change IP.

But really -- if you put up an internet poll, the respondents self-select, and can and will tell people they know about the poll as well. Not sending a referer header just means you aren't saying who told you that. What's the issue?

This isn't spoofing polls, it's not telling them who told you the poll was there. Cry me a river.

On a side note, it's hilarious how these sites will put up a poll, get hundreds or thousands of page views they wouldn't have otherwise, and then complain that the people coming to the site didn't pick the one they wanted.

Captain Darling 2007-12-22 06:04:59 PM
Lee Jackson Beauregard: Little Green Footballs or Late German Fascists?

Just for laughs, I followed your link and took your quiz. I was curious to see whether the offending quotes came from the LGF front page or the commenters on the site. At random, I picked quote number 4:

"Vermin love the Slime, and they will hate any attempt to clean up the mess. Our house had become terribly infested with horrible filth. It is to be expected that the creatures living on dirt would resist and fight back. But that is all the more reason to bring to successful completion the cleanup process."

We are supposed to believe here that "vermin" refers to Arabs or Muslims (or Jews in the case of the Nazis). I followed the link in the quiz results, and found that the quote in question was reposted from this blog, the author of which claims to be Iraqi. You may view the full post here (new window).

The "vermin" he refers to are Iraqi insurgents, not Arabs as a whole. In fact, the author says "Above all remember that this is not a battle between religions and ethnicities. It is a battle between all the decent people of the world of all religions and races and the forces of Evil."

I don't know who this blogger is or whether he's really an Iraqi. But I certainly felt misled that this quote was used as proof of "a poster from Littlegreenfootballs.com dehumanizing Palestinians, arabs or Iraqis" when it was not referring to any of those groups.

When the "worst Kos quotes of 2007" was posted here it was roundly condemned for using comments from random people instead of the official site editors. Trying to discredit LGF in the same manner is equally lame. I challenge you to defend your accusation of fascism from Charles Johnson's own writings.

Look more closely at Bill Richardson. He's great on gun issues and social freedom issues.

Paul really only appears to be socially liberal when in fact he just wants to shift power from the federal level to the state level. He doesn't seem to mind restriction of civil rights when they happen on a state level.

Son of God: Because 63,000 people donating $100 each isn't actually that many voters.

No, its not. Though in a world where than than 0.01 of supporters usually donate its huge.
Of course donation rates for Ron Paul are higher than other campaigns, its unknown just how high. But if they donate at a high rate they are also likely to vote at a high rate. Assuming they only have 5% support of old school Republicans (the ones who get polled) thats 2.75 million (last census count of number of republicans is 55 million). Not enough to win elections, but we can very safely add another million to that in libertarian and democratic switchers (plus there are open primaries in many states which make this very easy so it could be WAY over a million).

in 2000 20 million votes in the republican primaries.
Lets say Ron Paul supporters vote at a conservative 75% rate (it could be much much higher to this, most of his supporters will crawl to the polls if necessary)
Thats 14%. In a 5 way race its still not enough to "win". But its a good start.

Then you need to break it down by state. He has 10% of those old school republican support in New Hampshire and open primaries he could very well win it in the 5 man race (only takes 30% to win).

So after winning New Hampshire (and possible Nevada) the increased knowledge of his existence will be natural. Can he catapult the additional name recognition into winning. I think yes, though if others start to drop out it could become harder. Remember there is about 40% support against the war among republicans the 60% pro war is split among multiple candidates. As long as there are many people in the race Ron Paul has a very good chance.

Royish 2007-12-22 07:06:52 PM
