This isn't very surprising. His wife is Catholic and he was part of the high church movement - essentially an Anglican kind of I Can't Believe It's Not Catholicism.

Good for him. I hope now that he will acknowledge that the preemptive war doctrine he ascribed to is contrary to his new faith.

Suck it, Paisley. Now let's see if those Unionist militias in NI disband, or if they'll keep pushing the Ulster shill that it's "all the IRA's fault."

Can a UK Prime Minister be a Catholic? I know the Monarch is out of the question, but the PM?

Any "Barristers" out there?

He's not the prime minister anymore. And "no" is the answer to your question. I think.

So a Catholic can't be Prime Minister of the U.K.? Yet we're the religious fanatics over here?

/whatever kiddies

Couldn't he have converted in 2002? You know, back when the Pope was telling him not to do that Iraq war thing? Which turned out so fine?

On the BBC (pops) it looks like he's been practising his GWB impression too.

Thanks for reminding me to maintain my sense of humor when riding my high horse, rictorius. Always a good plan...

Thanks. I know he's no longer PM, just wondering hypothetically.

Wait - Wasn't D'Isreali Jewish???

According to this BBC new item from 2004 (pops) there is no bar. In fact Benjamin Disraeli, Prime Minister in the 19th century, was of Jewish descent.

/PS: BBC article also quotes Bliar saying he won't become as Catholic. Wonder if he'll be any better with the truth following his conversion

Now if the pope will fast track him to sainthood.

The real question is if he's a disestablishmentarianist. How are the anti-disestablishmentarianists handling this?

It isn't true, but given that our state religion was set up solely for the purpose of defying the pope, and was followed by the looting and burning of catholic monastories, it would be understandable if it *were* the case...

Isn't that why he waited until he was out of office?
