Because sometimes the concept of something is much better than the reality.

So you guys finally it eah? I thought the 20,000 pig farms would have been a clue. You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to them. You gotta shave the heads of your victims, and pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggies' digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course, but you don't want to go sievin' through pig shait, now do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. You know... just in case you were wondering.

I guess they are campaigning in Bartertown, with the caucuses being held in the Thunderdome.

/don't forget that all important Tina Turner endorsement

He hasn't been campaigning very hard in Iowa because (supposedly, a rumor from his camp) he doesn't think that the state is educated enough to make a sound choice in the caucus, which helps him both ways if he doesn't win its because were Morons and if he does win then it looks like we were smart enough after all.

He's positioned as the stealth candidate in it for the longer run. There's a heckuva lot of burnout potential in the current crowd, seems to me.

/running for veep?

He's running because back in, I'd say about April of 2007, there was a general feeling among conservative Republicans that they didn't have a true conservative in the race. Then Fred filled in for Paul Harvey, and he seemed to speak directly to conservatives. Then in a few surveys, some conservatives were asked whom they would like to see get into the race, and they named Fred Thompson. Then he took another 3 months or so to make up his mind/meet with advisors before joining the race.

And therein lies the problem. You can tell that his heart just isn't into fighting for what he believes in. He takes the approach of: here are my views, if you like them, fine...if not, fine, don't vote for me. And while that may be a valid way of getting elected, it can also be described as trying to get elected without really trying.

Because he's an actor and Reagan was an actor, so he'll be a shoo-in! Reagan.

I think it's a product of the canonization of Ronald Reagan in some quarters of the conservative movement. To them, Reagan is the ultimate President, and so because Thompson seems kind of similar to him, they embraced the idea of him running easily.

But he's no Reagan.

Crude: without really trying.

And US-Americans hate people who are successful without really trying.

With the writer's strike this would make for great tv.

The Running Man meets the Presidential race.

/would make great tv even if there were new sitcoms cluttering up the airwaves
