How long, how much farther, will we let an angry, disaffected, alienated, faithless few push us from our God-given liberty to express our joy and faith - whenever and wherever we choose?

It sucks to be a Christian, persecuted minority. But I am sure you will get over it.

eyehate [TotalFark] 2007-12-22 02:03:24 AM
Also, Mr. Boone, read the bible -

Matthew 6:5-6: "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men....when thou prayest, enter into thy closet and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret...."

Keep your joy and faith in a closet, buddy.

We're not pushing, we're pushing back. Faithless? 2/3 of the world's population aren't christian, 1/2 believe in something else.

Who exactly are these "leftists" that are complaining about Christmas? These right-wing "WAR ON CHRISTMAS" wackos whining about being oppressed seem like a dime a dozen, but I have yet to see their opponent or evidence of how these demons are trying to steal their Christmas.

Unfortunately I don't think subby was being intentionally ironic by using the word "Yule" in his pun.

How incredibly lame do you have to be to give Pat Farking Boone, of all people, the img1.fark.com tag? If I ever even thought for a second about doing that, I would probably have to kill myself.

Is it me, or does a WND article featuring Pat Boone give anyone else the creeps?

I don't think I'll ever get over Pat Boone, never mind Macho Grande.

Personally I ignore Christmas, but then I am not a pagan. But I don't hate it. It does seem to be a fairly lame holiday though, basically the biggest aspects of it in popular perception being unrestricted commercialism and greed.

One fun part is the uneducated Christians that rail against 'Santa' when that is one of the few aspects of the way Christmas is celebrated in modern times that has any real Christian origins.

In case people don't keep track - 25th Dec from Julian day of the winter solstice, Yule pre-dates christianity on the solstice and covers decorating a fir tree, burning a Yule log, the hanging of mistletoe and holly, giving gifts, and general celebration and merriment, 12 days of Christmas = Saturnalia, etc.

NewportBarGuy [TotalFark] 2007-12-22 03:41:28 AM
So, all dates set by paganism are cool with Christians? Winter festival? Awesome. When lacking substance for your own steal from existing sources. Ignorance is strength.

Michael_Mythix 2007-12-22 03:52:08 AM
There is no war on X-mas. The only arguments I recall against X-mas are those that support the separation of church and state. I personally don't want to see any religious iconography, imagery, or messages of any sort on public property.

This country is suppose to be a melting pot. We have a long way to go to become that. There is no real unity among vast amounts of the populous. No real love or understanding between the many diverse groups in this country. This is a real shame, we are all in this together.

Cristian, Muslin, Jew, Black, White, Latino, Chinese, Goth, Jock, Emo, Nerd, Dork, Ect. Ect. We need to spend less time thinking our differences and more time trying to understand them.

It really is about time a conservative weigh in on this. The bottom line is: Liberals, you aren't going to degrade our holiday. When Romney or Huckabee are elected to office, the record turnout of God-fearing Americans will prove that Christmas be a required holiday or Americans. We're on to you, liberals, and it isn't working.

I daresay many of you will easily find God, but there will doubtless be a very stubborn contingency that frankly may remain under government watch until a semblance of normalcy returns to our infrastructure.

Michael_Mythix 2007-12-22 04:15:16 AM
skookum I can begin to explain how sick what you have said is making me feel. Your hatefulness is so thinly vialed. Like you said it is your holiday, nobody is trying to take that away from you. No one I would care to associate with any way.

I am an atheist and damned proud of it. It took a long time for my family to come to terms and understand this; but eventually we did. We even celebrate dual holidays. My mother give me and my brother X-mas presents. We both tried to refuse these for years if for no other reason then guilt from benefiting from a holiday we have no belief in. Bless her heart she is a very persistent woman. Eventually we came to an agreement. We gladly accept her presents on X-mas and in turn we give her gifts on a holiday of our own.

We celebrate Annual Gift Giving day. It is celebrated on any day after the first of the year(you can't beat missing those X-mas crowds). This holiday celebrates the commercialism of itself and also the good will. After all it does feel good to make those you care about feel good. It makes you smile to see them.... smile.

Conservative sure get angry around Christmas.

I guess his has to do with the fact that once again we're celebrating a holiday focused on peace and good will towards our fellow men. They HATE that stuff.

So they try and hijack only the superficial elements of the holiday and pretend they're theirs.

Christianity and conservatism really don't mix very well when you get down to brass tacks.

Anyone who regards Pat Bonne as a "hero" needs to hear his cover of Little Richard's "Tutti Fruity". Preferably on vid, so you can see his lame "dancing". If Lee Harvey Oswald had shot HIM instead, this world would be a much better place.

He didn't say you were a troll. He said you got trolled.

As an atheist I have to say: you are a dumbass. What the hell does it matter if you don't buy into the religious aspects of Christmas? So your mom wants to be nice and give you stuff. How does that hurt you? I've been an atheist all of my life, I have never once believed in God, or any form of supernatural being, and I have celebrated the secular aspects of Christmas my entire life. Hell, it's not even a Christian holiday in the first place.

AngryDragon 2007-12-22 07:19:14 AM
The thing that confuses me is this. I am Catholic. If a Jew wished me a Happy Hanukkah I would take it as it is meant; an expression of goodwill. Why the fark does everyone get so bent out of shape if you say Merry Christmas? I was under the impression that tolerance meant you embrace other peoples' cultures not stick them in the proverbial back room.

Waldo Pepper 2007-12-22 07:27:12 AM

Pat Boone was irrelevant when I was a teen in 1958, and he's still irrelevant.

clifton [TotalFark] 2007-12-22 07:33:55 AM
Suffice it to say, I have also removed the additional, subsequent information regarding God's plan for this country, I am simply tired of having to explain exactly why God chose Bush for the White House, perhaps it really isn't your concern, but the howling backlash from the Gorebots and other liberals on this site is quite distasteful, and I have edited this portion of my profile.

In addition, liberals will find themselves very very sorry for continuing to hang on to their half-baked, rather adolescent view of the world, and their subsequent group depression will continue to bring up medical costs as each of their Shangri-La windmills comes crashing down because of good old fashioned Republican reality. Yes, Hillary will win the nomination, but Huckabee will ascend to the White House. Once Huckabee is President will this country then see an amazing series of sweeping social reforms aimed at marginalizing and finally destorying liberalism altogether. Atheism will finally end, and America will return to a Christian mindset, much like the 1950s. The wheels in motion have been set, and my purpose here is to remind you that the right choice will bring you a life of comfort, while the wrong choice will find many of you discovering your lives have taken a turn for the worst.

Skookum's bio is comedy gold!

You have been trolled by Pat Boone and Bill O'Rieley. Nobody (save a few confrontational jackasses) gives a rats scabby scrotum if you say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" or "Have a nice day!". Really. Honest.

The only people getting their panties in a bind are the obnoxious Christians having conniption fits because the greeter at Wal-Mart said "Happy Holidays!"

Uhh, sorry, Christmas is a Christian Holiday. It was placed where it was to help assimilate the pagans in the Roman empire who were celebrating the Winter Solstice. It has traditions (the Christmas Tree, etc), that were blended in from other cultures, but the reason for Christmas (i.e. the celebrated birth of Jesus of Nazareth) is Christian, thus a Christian holiday.

That's so cute, you're utterly ignorant of your own ripped off holiday's history. Jesus was most likely born in the spring. Christmas was probably celebrated a thousand years before the romans tainted it with their filthy little monotheism. Even the date of Dec 25th is of specific pagan relevance. Merry winter solstice, may all your dead jews on a stick return to life and suck out the brains of your enemies after 3 days in the grave!

lawboy87 2007-12-22 09:26:22 AM
December 25 was the birth day of Mithros.

BTW Pat, care to explain why all of those "founding fathers" lived in states which did not "celebrate" Christmas? Not a single state even recognized it as a holiday until 1838 and then only Alabama. (In fact, many states had laws specifically rejecting the observance of Christmas.) No other state gave it recognition until after the civil war, basically 100 years after the founding of the county and the Federal government didn't recognize it until 1888 or so. Yep, citing to our "founders" as the basis for why we should be giving it up for Christmas makes so much sense. (About as much sense as the whitest, soulless person I've ever seen ripping off great black performers and dumbing down their performances. You truly are the Michael Bolton of your generation.)
