I kinda like traditional British food. Well, some of it. Some of the pastry/meat dishes, Wellington for sure (that's British, right?), nothing with kidney in it though.

The Indian food is pretty good there, though, I'll give Obama that.

Besides Fish and Chips, what is "British" food? Certainly not the "Indian" food he is talking about?

Isn't that just Rumaki? Or is that contingent on there being water chestnuts?

Either way it's f*cking awesome.

You may as well ask what is "American" food, as opposed to recipes/foodstuffs that were brought to the country by immigrants.

America is a country founded on the principles of immigration. It wasn't an established country that had 'traditions' and 'values' already preset. They were evolved after being subjugated to different tests by different groups of people until they finally all decided on what they should be. It's a different set of rules all together.

Does chicken tikka masala count as British food? If so, it totally redeems whatever other culinary disasters they enjoy.

Bacon sandwiches were invented in Britain (probably).

So were roast beef dinners.

And deep-fried Mars bars.

To each their own, however I don't know why some people always put down British food. I suspect some of them are the same type of people who use to go, "Ewww, I'd never eat raw fish" before sushi became trendy.

For a while, the Brits were the fattest people across the pond, weren't they?

That always struck me as odd, because if you've tried British cuisine, you'd also wonder how the hell anyone could want to eat enough of it to gain weight.

Why the Hero tag?

I feel what he is really saying is that he doesn't like Anglo food or if you read between the lines, Whitey Food.

The Brits set forth to colonize the world to find new and better things to eat. It's rather obvious when you look at where they went and what they ended up abandoning such as Australia's mere use as a penal colony as opposed to a culinary institute.

Heavy E: I suspect some of them are the same type of people who use to go, "Ewww, I'd never eat raw fish" before sushi became trendy.

Is sushiatrendy? I've started eating more raw fish lately, but mostly because my wife started engish classes and all her classmates are asian. She mostly gets along with the japanese (japanese and mexicans always get along really well, for some reason) and they've introduced her to good places to buy seafood in the area.

Started off cooking everything, like tuna steaks as if they were meat. They were always dry and tough. Started cooking them less, they got better. Started cooking them even less, they got even better. We both eventually realized that just searing them on the outside is much better than cooking them, and we've gotten very used to eating raw stuff in general since then.

/should get myself tested for mercury

I won't even eat cooked fish, but I will laugh at you when you catch botulism* from sushi.

*which is also what the British call steak and kidney pie.

An Established country with over a thousand years of gloating that 'we are separate from the romans' that's makes us awesome amirite? America is called the melting pot for a reason, Britian not so much. You guys have history that predates writing, and love that fact (which is fine). America however, is a mishmash of many cultures, the frame work wasn't already set.

I've ate at his restaurant, the Pan fried sea scallops with octopus and parmesan sauce is awesome, but the Pork three ways, sautéed, confit cheeks, traditional black pudding, with artichokes, mushrooms, spinach and Madeira sauce-- farking black pudding, is gross omfg is it gross.
