*Next year. As if they don't have months to figure out who'll take their place.

Can't we go back to marching bands as the half time entertainment? They were good enough for the first couple of Super Bowls why not bring them back?

If they can't win the Super Bowl, the Eagles should at least play the halftime show.

There is no such thing as . . . a good Super Bowl halftime show . . ..

Sweet. Maybe they can get Rammstein to do Das Model at halftime.

I agree, but Prince was pretty good.
I don't even like Prince.

Hell I've known since week 2 that The Eagles weren't going to the Super Bowl.

Too bad they can't get GG Allin.

From TFA:

Henley said he was glad to top the country chart, adding "country music is now akin to what my generation was listening to in the '60s and '70s. Certainly, country is one of the last bastions of good songwriting - and of singing in tune."

I'm just dumbstruck.

I'd just as soon watch August's DCI winner.

For f*ck's sake, have Prince do it again.

I nominate Rush to do the halftime show.

/why not?

If Peter Grant was still around, he'd have Led Zep play and milk the media hype for all it's worth to plug a North American tour.

Why not Janet Jackson again? I'm sure the halftime show would break viewing records , as people will wonder what she's wearing on her other boob.

I agree. I don't think I've ever seen a good SuperBowl halftime show in my lifetime (watching my first one with Eagles vs Raiders). Maybe also bring in those dogs that catch frisbees thrown 80+ yards. Those are entertaining, too.

Thank goodness YouTube is around to validate things that I thought were simply figments of my then 12 year-old brain.

Double helping of win.

Of course, the Superdome is too big for flash photography, but no one seems to care!

Lamb of God for halftime show.

/Of course, right after that, I would have to dislike them,... since they did a halftime show.

I heard the Dude has connections to Metallica, perhaps the old Duder can get ahold of Lars and the gang to relive the "Speed of Sound" tour?

Did Don Henley just play some weird variant of the "artistic integrity" card??

The Eagles have turned down an offer to perform at next year's Super Bowl, saying they'd rather perform at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry

Why can't they play both? Or is it Don Henley's lifelong dream to play at the Grand Ole Opry on Superbowl Sunday?

bingethinker [TotalFark] 2007-12-21 02:04:16 AM
So the Eagles are saying that they're already gone?

/I was desperado to make some kind of joke here.

You know, any time someone starts bashing rap music on Fark, someone inevitably comes along and says "You're just listening to the wrong rap, which sucks. You need to listen to this rap," and then they post links to some rap artist they consider to be talented and thought-provoking.

My question is, could a similar case be made for country music? I know there's older stuff that actually had a point and took talent to produce, but the country of today just seems to be the same pop shiat you see on MTV, only with acoustic guitars. Is there some sort of indie country scene that we're all missing, and could that be what Henley is referring to?

The Eagles would be better than most of the shiatty artists that have performed at the Super Bowl for the past few years.

2 things:

1) AC/DC would give us the greatest halftime show ever.

2) Michael Jackson can DIAF for acting like a retarded mannequin during the halftime show in '92.

Pontius Gandalf 2007-12-21 02:14:41 AM
Hooray for frisbee dogs!

phillydrifter 2007-12-21 02:31:22 AM
Don't worry, the Eagles probably won't even make it to the post season this year.

GypsyJoker 2007-12-21 02:40:33 AM
I think the "fark da Eagles" chick should do the halftime show.

And by "do the halftime show," I mean....

Disciple_of_Trogdor 2007-12-21 02:59:04 AM
AC/DC Doing "For Those About to Rock", complete with cannons that shoot something into the crowd. THAT is a halftime show.

They're afraid Vick will get out and kill all the ones that drop the frisbees.

Obviously the more thought-provoking music isn't going to be the most mainstream, as the goal in getting everyone to listen to the song is to make it something that you don't have to think about, you just feel you like it. I actually feel that rap probably has the best lyricism of any of the forms of music nowadays; that they do a LOT more with the English language than anyone else does.

/But AC/DC would kick the ass of everything with an ass for the halftime show. shiat, I'd even watch the halftime show for the first time ever if they were up there

There's a lot of good alternative country, sure. But if Henley realizes that there's good country only when you dig for it, why wouldn't he realize it with rap (or any other genre)?

Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins (new window) Bluegrass/Mountain
Wilco (new window) Alt-Country; definitely not indie any more, but not mainstream yet
Devendra Banhart (new window) Mostly folk, but this song has a certain Willie Nelson charm

There's an indie scene for every type of music, you just need to know where to look and be willing to listen to a lot of crap before you get to the good stuff.

Are The Aristocrats available?

Thanks. I'll definitely be taking a look at those. I actually know a lot of people who are into Wilco. Kind of wondering why I didn't think of them when I made my Boobies.
