I don't see what Christmas lights have to do with the religious celebration of Christmas.

And let's face it, preserving culture for culture's sake when it goes against your sense of morality is wrong. If the town feels so strongly about cutting down on fossil fuels, then they should take down their Christmas lights. Anything else would be hypocrisy.

O'Reilly keeps sinking deeper and deeper into idiocy.

Rednecks, crackers, hillbillies, hausfraus, shut-ins, pea-pickers - everybody that's got to jump when somebody else blows the whistle. They don't know it yet, but they're all gonna be 'Fighters for Fuller'. They're mine! I own 'em! They think like I do. Only they're even more stupid than I am, so I gotta think for 'em. Marcia, you just wait and see. I'm gonna be the power behind the president - and you'll be the power behind me

Christmas was hijacked by the religious folks. It was never originally intended to be a religious holiday. In fact it wasn't even celebrated in the U.S. until the mid 1800s.

If you look back through the early history of America, the Puritans (christians) outlawed christmas (1659-1681). Jesus only became the "reason for the season" among christians after they became afraid that they would lose followers to the appeal of the secular holiday of Christmas.

You sir, are misinformed. Everyone knows that every Christmas Eve since the very first one at the dawn of time 6,000 years ago, Jesus himself descends from heaven in his Chariot of Gold-Plated Awesome to either give high-end electronics to believers, or blast heathens with his tri-linked Railguns of Eternal Damnation.

If you've been an extra-good boy or girl, and you've left three nails and a two-by-four for Jesus by your chimney, he will come with his Holiday Holepunch and give you your very own Christmas stigmata!

Use LED "Christmas" lights. I do. they are great and don't use much electricity.

It's not that huge of an impact to ones life to try to conserve a little more.

In fact most of the time it actually saves you money.

The town, said Dlugosz, supports green initiatives and conservation. Leaving electric lights on at night is not necessarily in line with that, he said.

Here's an idea: turn them off during the DAY.

I'm also starting to hate the revised 'don't preview" function.

That's what I came in to say.

But someone already said it, let me add: "Bill O'Reilly is a dumbass."

I'd be willing to double my conservation efforts for a year to offset the ecological damage caused by Bill O'Reilly's house burning down.

Don't let them ruin your fun. I had a nice holiday party recently where I would read a fact about a holiday and people had to guess if it was about Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanuka, Saturnalia or Festivus.

I have friends of various religions and everyone thought it was a lot of fun, and everyone learned something.

Oh yeah and drinking JagerTee helps too.

I didn't mind the christmas lights until the blow up plastic things came along. They are such a waste of electricity. And they are hideous looking.

"The argument in favor of this," said Selectmen Chairman Anthony Blair, "is that as an economy based on tourism, the town is making an attempt to look festive. And that looking festive is a benefit to the merchants here, who derive a large portion of their income from the holiday season."

That said, Blair admitted that he did not disagree with the comments of his fellow board members.

"Many communities have found other ways to decorate their town for the holidays," he said.

Blair said he found Dlugosz's argument "principled, but I think it's unfair to turn (the Chamber) down at this late date."

Dlugosz agreed. He made a motion to approve the installation of the lights and to put the Chamber on notice to find a more energy-efficient way of celebrating the holidays next year. In addition, the lights are to be turned off by 10 every night. The motion passed 4-0.

Oh my god, people had open minds of other people's points of view and they compromised and agreed together.

This must be stopped at all costs!!!!

The puritans were a minority population in the colonies, and outlawed a lot of things for their followers and in the settlements they controlled that no one else particularly cared about.

While I don't doubt that the Puritans banned Christmas, since it generally exists as an excuse to party and enjoy oneself (two things they were explicitly against), I doubt your claim that this would have extended to the other 99% of the population of the colonies. Further, I doubt they would have banned it if no one around there was practicing it, that would be like passing a law banning instantaneous teleportations of objects in excess of one ton distances greater than one mile -- not happening, so wtf would you make a law for?

Yeah, it died when I fugged your mother on the hood my car with your daddy watching and giving instructions- b*tch. Tolerance doesn't mean rolling over for everybody on everything regardless of how stupid, contrived, or foolish it is. It means making allowances and still owning to your own personal beliefs as being just as valid. Too bad you're too much of a crying faux-persecuted baby to understand that.

B*TCH.

Put down the hate for a bit and go have a drink. It's the holidays, after all. Well wishes, or at least not hoping for people you disagree with on the intertubes to die. Spirit of the season and all that, y'know.
