In one of those strange moments throughout the day that one thinks they are some sort of psychic (or just psycho...), I SWEAR this song randomly popped into my head moments before clicking the music tab.

Anyways, neat.... but kind of lacking.

There's a pretty good interview with them in the new Guitar World mag.
/ I'm just not feelin' it.
//OK, but not spectacular.

They're Mexican.

And I like their cover of Stairway to Heaven.

But their best song is Tamacun.

would someone just get her a drum set? really.

JohnnyDreamboat: OK, but not spectacular.

Seconded. Nifty Latin flair, but as a cover of Orion, it was not something that is deserving of carrying the same notes. It takes a much badder sumbiatch to take on a Kirk Hammett solo. Moderate fail.

Oh yeah, the Ghost of Cliff Burton spits down upon thee for thy slappy acoustic liberties.

I was hoping that they would do something intresting with the solo....

Okay, so it's been changed now, but the headline originally said they were Spanish. That's why I mentioned that they are Mexican. My comment looks a little weird now.

I've submitted this before, and yeah, I think he follows the original solo too closely (but to his credit, Kirk couldn't pull off that final solo in the live videos I've seen them play it). Still a fine album and, at the very least, an interesting take on an unapproachable piece of metal. Using solely two acoustic guitars to reproduce a pretty faithful cover is pretty astonishing in my book.

The rest of the album definitely outshines the two covers.

Tell me about it... I just decided to learn Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson today, I got about a third of the way through it. Afterwards I come home, log in to TF, and the first thing I see is a video link to the song, as played by Eric himself.

And I agree, this wasn't anything amazing. I thought since I like both this duo and Metallica that I'd really enjoy this, but honestly I've seen them do much better stuff.

Oops...I'm looking at comments about a guitar video at YouTube; time for all the stupids and Guitar Hero losers to crawl out from under the stairs and offer their Opinion.

Run away! Run away!

Whatta ya know, a song written for electric guitar doesn't sound that great (even though the guitarists are) on an acoustic. I really despise acoustic covers of electric songs with the exception of some jazz. An electric guitar is a really different instrument, it reacts very differently when played and has a way different tone. I know from experience as I play Classical acoustic, steel-string acoustic and electric guitar.

Wow. That was complete pants.

That one's OK, but certainly not their best.

Diablo Rojo (new window)

I liked it.

It reminded of when Metallica wasn't a bunch money grubbing, corporate sellouts.

That is my favorite Metallica song. Quite awesome.

I saw them at Bonnaroo this year. Very talented pair. They met while playing together in a metal band. I bought the CD/DVD too. It's not something I listen to all the time nor all the way through, but they play some very beautiful music. The DVD even has tutorials on how Gab plays like that.

I liked the arrangement when the dude went into the solo, but once they bailed on the song just before the best part (the 3-part harmony w/the awesome bassline beneath), they completely blew it. That whole thing was half-assed and thrown together in a few hours, easy.

No thread with acoustic guitars covering popular songs is complete without this link: California Guitar Trio - Bohemian Rhapsody

are you kidding me?. they kick ass. the cover's great.

and their album is excellent.

I really like their music... hope they come out with another CD soon, been a while.

Agreed (although Diablo Rojo is a close second.)

tweaksfo 2007-12-20 07:02:46 PM
I got to work with them live once and they are a blast to watch. They did one 10 minute jam where Rodrigo would keep slipping Metallica rifs here and there. Just a lot of fun to watch live.

I agree.

I love their album and their version of this song, but they cut out the best part. Time constraints on the Tonight Show, perhaps?

Thanks for the vid, subby.

The twins from "Heroes" can't act, but they can play some good acoustic guitara!

Ummmm...they actually stopped playing Orion about 2:31 into the video...

Guitar tuners are only 20 dollars or so these days.

Metronomes are slightly more expensive.

This always makes me laugh, because I highly doubt anyone that has actually met any part of Metallica would say that.

cool.. I thought Apocalyptica was the only group that gave Metallica the classical treatment...

not too bad
