Weird trivia... he played drums on "Rescue Me" by Fontella Bass. He also grew up a couple blocks from Stax Records in Memphis (as did Aretha Franklin... and "Rescue Me" always sounded like an Aretha knock-off to me), they mention him a couple times on the Stax tour (a music fan's must-do, if in Memphis.)

/stupid crap I remember
//happy birthday to him

I saw this tour at ECU/Greenville. They had been signed the year before, when they were still relatively unknown. Man, what a show. These guys RAWKED.

I remember as a young lad staying up late to watch them on HBO in the 70s (yeah, get off my lawn). Awesome shiat. Let's Groove Tonight.

Anyone seen them touring with Chicago? Both bands on stage at the same time. An 8-piece horn section makes for some mighty fine funk.

Saw them in the early 80's; damnedest show EVAH!

EXCELLENT MUSIC!
LASER BEAMS!
SPACE SHIPS!
ROBOTS!
Black on ACID!

Wish they would come around again.

Great link, and Booker's damn right. It could well be that the black musician (non-vocalist, in other words) seen live by the most fans this year was Chester Thompson.

They don't teach music in school as much any more. Plus so many distractons like video games, computers etc.

/LOVE the Earth Wind & Fire, bought every 45 between Shining Star and After the Love Is Gone. Heard September on the radio today and That's the Way of The World in the supermarket yesterday, it sounds as great as ever.

a little trivia... he was one of the producers in the room when warner bros. tested prince to see if he could produce himself on his first album. the rest as they say is history.

btw... Maurice White has parkinsons. please keep him in your prayers.
