I was hoping to see someone blame the city for its closing and I wasn't disappointed.

Well, I walked all over that place on what I believe was opening night with my friend. We thought the name was pretty weak. We found it new and different with its shiny cement floors and "nooks" which did have neat stuff in them (but I can't remember what), but we proceeded to walk to 2nd and Bell to the (whatever that place was called) and got overserved instantly. A shot there consisted of a highball glass filled to surface tension; one whiskey for her, a rum and a half for me, we were done. The bartender's mind was blown when we tipped him.

As an aside, that place was too late to create anything, IIRC; it seemed poseurish at the time. But what do I know, I didn't live in Seattle.

I was too young to see a show there (too few 18+ shows going on when I lived there), but the food was good. Sad to see these clubs closing.

Reminds me of when the "Lounge Ax" closed in Chicago.....a sad day in music history.

While true, it still doesn't change the fact that it was one of the better places in town to see a show.

Almost as sad as when CBGB closed last year. That was a sad day. Now it's even more sad because next May it's turning in to a high-end designer fashion boutique.

Yes. Nirvana and Mudhoney for $3 in '92. I wasn't there, but that show alone should seal its place Seattle's music history.

I do not care for grunge music, but you have to admire it for smiting the mighty hair-metal beast.

Hell I did the International Pop Overthrow there this summer -opened for Don Dixon, True West and Tim Lee (also the windbreakers)

That guy from Rain Parade joined 'em for a few songs (Matt Piuci)

Back in the late 90's I did a tribute night with a Guided By Voices tribute band opening for
70-proof: Kurt Bloch, Mike Mussberger and some other locals doing classic 70's rock---they got some guy from Bellevue to sing and he was good.

A Devo tribute opened called Mogoloid---footage can be seen in Russ Forster's film Tributary

-your douchebag friend

Also worth noting that if it weren't for all of those espresso-sipping, flannel-wearing, neo-beatnik douchebags a whole shiat load of heavy metal that didn't suck would never have hit the radio or even Headbanger's Ball/The Pit (Muchmusic) seriously, I made a list!:

Ministry
Poison The Well
Eighteen Visions
Dog Fashion Disco
Danzig (Mother got famous in '93... 8 years after it was released.)
Slayer's "Dittohead" getting heavy rotation on MTV and making them a household name.
... The list just keeps going on...

Thank You Nirvana/Pearl Jam/Thad/Toad The Wet Sprocket... All of you, seriously, thank you for killing off moron bands like this:

It's because the owner was totally inept. This lady would just leave town for months at a time with her husband leaving the place to run itself.

The thing that really killed them is a little while back when they lost the true right to call themselves a "Cafe" when they stopped serving food.

The Pillows had a great show there last year.

Cant Think Of A Good Long Name: i wish all of those bands except slayer never existed and i wish they stopped existing more then a few years ago.

In related news, apparently Slayer is now considered a 90's grunge band??
