Goodnight good music man. You will be sorely missed in this world.

/Nice guy, great musician, helluva a family man when I knew him.
//And so private that no one knew what he was going through at all.

Mythy [TotalFark] 2007-12-16 05:34:03 PM
So sad to hear this....RIP

CruJones 2007-12-16 06:09:58 PM
So long to the leader of the band...

CruJones 2007-12-16 06:10:38 PM
I may even go buy a six pack at the liquor store. And drink it in my car.

Another Government Employee 2007-12-16 06:11:04 PM
Another Auld Lang Syne...

denmeister 2007-12-16 06:11:07 PM
Well shiat, goddammit...my all time-favorite musician. Saw him six times in concert and he was amazing.

RoadRunnr 2007-12-16 06:11:20 PM

Glasgowsfinest [TotalFark] 2007-12-16 06:12:24 PM
Never heard of him, but hey, he's a musician, so I'll crack open a tinny for him.

BronchialStatue 2007-12-16 06:13:21 PM
Goodnight sappy man

bloatboy 2007-12-16 06:13:22 PM
My fiance has a tatoo of Dan Fogerburp?

/Didn't know him but it still sucks.

wildcardjack 2007-12-16 06:13:24 PM
I accidentally started two of the video clips just far enough apart for it to sound rather good. Just one wasn't too hot.

Drummer 2007-12-16 06:14:19 PM
RIP my friend.

oh and once I saw a blimp 2007-12-16 06:14:19 PM
Many people don't realize he also invented the Fogelhorn.

/RIP

AtomicAcidbath 2007-12-16 06:14:27 PM
Just stopped by to say, wow...that sucks.
RIP dude.

Ubiquitous homeless guy 2007-12-16 06:14:31 PM
Aww, too bad. Loved his music, which was really in a class all by itself.

Leader of the Band: Link (new window)

You'll be missed.

HowlingFrog [TotalFark] 2007-12-16 06:15:29 PM
A quiet man of music
Denied a simpler fate
He tried to be a soldier once
But his music wouldn't wait
He earned his love
Through discipline
A thundering, velvet hand
His gentle means of sculpting souls
Took me years to understand.

Good night, Dan.

RIP Music Man

/My mom is gonna be so sad when she finds out

sofla39 2007-12-16 06:16:29 PM
It's now time for one of FARK's greatest bits: "Let's insult the dead guy."

NYRBill 2007-12-16 06:17:33 PM
my wife and I went to my parents cabin in the Poconos and the stereo there had an 8-track player. one of the tapes was DF Phoenix.
/yes it still worked
/lawn, get off...

offacue 2007-12-16 06:17:58 PM
Well then, that just took a bite out of my evening. That sucks.

RIP

Directorscut 2007-12-16 06:20:01 PM
and as I turned to make my way back home,
the snow turned into rain..

I started to rediscover his music just recently, and now I understand why.
R.I.P.

But who will lead the band now?

On her butt?

In a Bloom County comic strip, the character Lola Granola confesses to having a tattoo of Dan Fogelberg's face.

too2ez [TotalFark] 2007-12-16 06:21:17 PM
Very sad.

I saw him in concert once when I was in college. My then GF (now wife of way over 20 years) made me go. I didn't want to.

Then, as now, she's right about most things. It was a great evening. His shows were like you spent the evening with a friend who came over just to share some time and sing some songs.

VelvetEvolver 2007-12-16 06:23:22 PM
Dammit, and I was just talking to my lawyer about suing him for making me into a pussy in the mid 70's.

peachy92 [TotalFark] 2007-12-16 06:24:23 PM
Well, if I wasn't already depressed as is, this is even more depressing. I want to hear "Same Old Lang Syne," but I might fall apart.

CruJones 2007-12-16 06:24:37 PM
VelvetEvolver: Dammit, and I was just talking to my lawyer about suing him for making me into a pussy in the mid 70's.

I'm working on my Christopher Cross/Air Supply joint lawsuit as we speak.

Ebenator 2007-12-16 06:24:55 PM
Goodnight Fogel man

Thread wouldn't be complete without a Dennis Leary ref.

Insert Cool Name 2007-12-16 06:26:23 PM
dammit, this pisses me off! he was a real artist too.

missed, definitly, but at least he gave us the music before he left.

harlock 2007-12-16 06:26:26 PM
Someone already made the Dennis Leary reference.

But yea he was cool.

Bye bye.

WalMartian 2007-12-16 06:27:38 PM
RIP, Dan. I had no idea he had cancer.

/Always liked "Run for the Roses"

CelticFrost

Feeble farker, get back to your XBox, your crap rap hiphop dirt, and leave musicianship to the great ones like Fogelberg. He will be missed by a generation of appreciative listeners. Dan, we thank you for your wonderful music. Rest in peace, or better yet, play eternally in a better place.

Ebenator 2007-12-16 06:28:00 PM
Never stop soft-rockin'!

Gairloch [TotalFark] 2007-12-16 06:28:50 PM
Who?

Is he someone that I would probably know if I were an old(ish) hippy?

/honestly have never heard of the guy before

richlip 2007-12-16 06:29:32 PM
"You kids with your loud music and your Dan Fogelberg, your Zima, hula hoops, and Pac-Man video games, don't you see? People today have attention spans that can only be measured in nanoseconds."

olddinosaur 2007-12-16 06:31:34 PM
His compositions were a bit too sticky-sweet for my taste, but he had a solid grasp of constructive technique. His melodies were soundly crafted, his rhymes and meter right on beat.

He was also a craftsman and a class act, head and shoulders above these modern-day jerks.

Good night music man, you will be missed.

heywood-jablome 2007-12-16 06:33:33 PM
richlip just beat me to the BASEketball reference.

Good night music man.

gberkeley: I had no idea he was dying of cancer, rest in peace.

This.

I wouldn't have ever listened to him on my own, but as a kid my mom loved his music, and I came to really like it as a result. His music will always remind me of my childhood as a result.

56, way too young.

Tanqueray 2007-12-16 06:33:56 PM
Friction8r: and leave musicianship to the great ones like Fogelberg

Bach, Elvis, Hendrix and Fogelberg - the Mt. Rushmore of music

RIP music man..

You gave so much in your short time amongst us.

/I'd not even heard he was ill.. :(

remnant 2007-12-16 06:38:07 PM
Great.

When the kids hear about this, there's gonna be rioting and marijuana.

angryjd 2007-12-16 06:39:39 PM
Goodnight funky man?

signaljammer 2007-12-16 06:41:07 PM
It was kinda a neat time back in the seventies when left-band low-power FM stations played a mix of contemporary pop, before things got so format-driven.

//Sure, DF will be missed. . .

scots 2007-12-16 06:42:37 PM
Saw Dan in Ceveland around '91 or 92. Took a girl from work that I had a major thing for. I had NO idea who he was before the concert - She worshipped him.

Relationship went nowhere.
Concert was awesome.
Another Auld Lang Syne was good, Run for the Roses was good, but A Place in the World for A Gambler made the concert - 12,000 people singing along.

Bye Dan.
