eqtworld: FTAL It is widely reported that women's rights are being withdrawn virtually on a daily basis while the militia groups and criminal gangs, eager to reap the benefits of Basra's economic potential, are in control.

The Commons Defence Committee suggests there may be an appearance of security because things are calm but says the root causes of the violence have not been tackled

This is why my lizard brain wants a Republican to win. Iraq will blow up into the most epic clusterfark of a regional war the world has ever seen. I'd just as soon Republicans take the full weight of that for the next 4-8 years.

Then you should attend the tea party-- you'll be glad you did.

basically the muslims/arabs (and yeah, iranians are arabs whether you idiots want to believe it or not) should be left alone to fight it out now. create a power vacuum and watch them kill each other. it's funny because they don't know how to work together. they are uncivilized, backwards, and worthless.

No, they're not; but they are a Muslim society.

El_Dan 2007-12-16 02:51:49 AM
Take everyone who voted for Bush in 2004, give them a gun (if they don't have one already), and drop them off in Iraq, along with everyone associated with all the lobbyists for the oil and defense industries, and every congressman who voted for war.

Should clear up more than a few problems.

And spray paint a bullseye on infantry first.

I'm not sure this qualifies for the hero tag.

That being said, I think this is the best international news all year.

The Brits are a fine people. I agree with what their new PM is doing. America (our leadership) is stomping around the world like a 300 lb. 13 yr. old being a bully, throwing tantrums, and making threats...
Brit versions of KBR and Blackwater exist and will continue to make $$$.
This war is about War profiteering. PM knows Brits don't have to die for them to make $$$.

You fsck'd it up, you pay for it. At least that's what it says in that UN charter and Nurenberg trials proceedings.

I used to be in the British army. We wouldn't have said a word, just made sure to smear shiat on the triggers of all the weapons protecting any bases or position being released.

Oh, and bring your own shampoo to the showers. And the women demanding recompense for their bastard children, well, that's your problem now. Buy black hair dye and you'll be just fine.

There's three days mail to go through too. I'd use tongs.

Uh, clearly the UN Charter states and the Nuremberg trials established that only the LOSER pays reparations. This isn't the NFL where the loser gets the first draft pick.

The imperialist nation which invades some country half-way around the world may not end up the winner (see, Indochina) but cannot end up the loser.

/At any rate, I'm sure when Chelsea Clinton or Jenna Bush is president (duh), they will inform us that there is no need for reparations because "the destruction was mutual"

//Actually forget the irony -- the Nuremberg trials DID establish this Loser Pays principle

What an incredibly biased article.

there may be an appearance of security because things are calm but says the root causes of the violence have not been tackled.

No shiat and the root causes of violence in London have not been tackled either. I mean it is one thing to acknowledge problems but this journalist is looking for bad news.

When asked if conditions in the city are better or worse than when the British first rolled into town at the end of the war in 2003 and patrolled in berets, one senior officer here said only this: "I really couldn't answer that."

How many officers did he interview? How many of them said, yes things are better off?

equilibrium 2007-12-16 01:07:58 PM
Hang On Voltaire: How many officers did he interview? How many of them said, yes things are better off?

Ah, so it's biased because the author didn't interview people until he found someone who agreed with your word view.

No shiat and the root causes of violence in London have not been tackled either. I mean it is one thing to acknowledge problems but this journalist is looking for bad news.

Do you honestly think that the day to day life of the average Iraqi has improved since we invaded?

If by "you" you mean the war profiteers, the war-mongering theocrats in Congress, Bush and his cabinet, and every ignorant hick who continues to support this war, then I agree.

If you're suggesting that our troops continue to "pay for it" with their lives and limbs, then I couldn't disagree more.

Furthermore, fark the Iraqis. Yes, the U.S. botched the occupation, and bad things should be expected to happen whenever such mismanagement is inflicted on an occupied country. But only a land of worthless, barbaricoontermenschen would respond to adversity by blowing each other up at random and killing the very people that are trying to get them to behave like human beings. I hope some miracle happens and all Western forces pull out of Iraq sometime soon, and I'll be raising a toast to the resulting slaughter that the Iraqis inevitably inflict on eachother without the civilized world there to babysit.

kartofelkopf 2007-12-16 01:54:05 PM
So, Infantry reposted as The Name. Cool.

Kirby Muxloe 2007-12-16 02:26:20 PM
So we went in to "liberate" the Iraqis from a brutal dictator (I think that was the last rationale).

Now they are free and can have the sort of government they want.

Mission accomplished... but wait, the government they get is religiously biased, based on non-democratic principles and discounts the "human rights" of large section of the population.

Damn. But now what? Do we continue to "liberate" them until they pick a form of government we like? How do we do that?

Ex Parte Gilligan 2007-12-16 02:50:38 PM
equilibrium: Do you honestly think that the day to day life of the average Iraqi has improved since we invaded?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that yeah, for the average Iraqi (a truly nebulous concept), things are better now than they were 5 years back. Which is to say... before they were supremely sucktastic, and now conditions have improved to where they are only incredibly sucktastic. What bothered me then, as now, is that the whole (sorry to use the term like this) cost-benefit analysis of a US-led and sponsored invasion and occupation vis-a-vis the tangible benefits of such an endeavor is just pathetic. Not to mention stated goals and objectives versus facts on the ground, the deteriorating status of American power and prestige among allies and with the world at large, and following on from that our own deteriorating security situation. We are now learning what the Brits, the French, and the Soviets learned long ago: You just cannot in the long term tell a people how to govern themselves.

Phil Moskowitz 2007-12-16 04:18:03 PM
God it would be great if China bombed Britain and America, invaded, destroyed all of the leadership and then left, the whole time blaming the Iraqi's err I mean brits and americans for being uncivil insurgents and terrorists. I can honestly say that would be a wonderful sight.

Pillager 2007-12-16 06:56:55 PM

Your perspective is really twisted. The idea isn't "you solve your own problems", it's "Be responsible for your own actions". We started this mess, if we pull out before it's done, we deserve every shiatty thing that's said about us for the next 50 years.

kartofelkopf 2007-12-16 09:28:56 PM
You mean like all the shiatty things said about us right now because we invaded in the first place?

If it's a choice between losing more American lives and spending more money in Iraq and being pissed on by the rest of the world for aggression, and pulling out, saving American lives and money, and being pissed on by the rest of the world for not fixing what we broke...

/support the troops
