i thought this was a government founded for the people, by the people, and all of that. i didn't think jesus was an american citizen.

If Jesus came back and was found in the U.S., they'd probably treat him like a terrorist. Middle Eastern, no U.S. citizenship, no passport or proof of entry into the U.S. Yeah, definitely a terrorist suspect.

No, but you see, Jesus was a Jew from Israel. The government would set him up a position in AIPAC where he'd send American soldiers to die for Israel. I read a book about it.

There's always Kucinich. What I find funny about him is that people make fun of him for seeing a UFO. Of course it was a UFO. It was unidentified and flying. These same people act like Huckabee is sane even though he's perpetually talking about an invisible man in the sky who is ostensibly his master. Which is more insane?

These people scare me, truly and deeply.

I need to get myself sterilized before these nutjobs get any sort of power. Hopefully, early next year. I'll add "current political climate" to the reasons when I see the new doctor I've found.

7of7: There's always Kucinich.

I just read up a bit on him; there is little to balk at, honestly.

So what if he says he saw a UFO? I'd rather that ANY day that someone who believes he needs to "reclaim the United States..." for a dead guy from ancient times.

I want Ron Paul as Veep. He could run around slapping everyone in the face with the pocket Constitution. You know, just to remind folks.

No way. I can't honestly expect people in our government be able to recognize Aramaic or Biblical Hebrew from Modern Hebrew. Bearded Middle Eastern guy in robes speaking in a funny language on U.S. soil illegally? He'd be disappeared before you can say "Guantanamo."

As for Huckabee, A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned to someone that I thought that Huckabee was a closeted Dominionist. Apparently he's out now. Man, I hate it when I'm right.

Wouldn't the more stalwart (for lack of a better word) path be to have as many children as you could responsibly support and raise them all to think for themselves and take personal responsibility for their actions in an attempt to stave off the tides of sheep who use their belief in invisible men in the sky and the equivalent of 2000 year old /b/ posts as an excuse to threadshiat the real world?

You may be surprised to learn that they are or were in positions of real and serious power. Katherine Harris was one of them. Or you may not be surprised.

Really? I really don't understand what Christians are expecting if the US "returned" to Christ. Will corruption automatically cease? WiDoes forcing kids to say prayers automatically make them subservient and unwillful? Will making abortions illegal automatically make everyone fit parents?

I'd rather you cut spending, lower taxes, admit we've failed in the drug war, find a solution to the middle east crisis and shred the patriot act. While I'm dreaming, I'd also like santa to biatch slap RIAA, the CIA, the NSA and the DEA. Let's also rewrite copyright laws, repeal the entire DMCA, and make 'hate' crime legislation unconstitutional.

Let Christ worry about souls. I'm more worried about the state of the economy.

I'd like to see Hillary step up to the plate and admit that we've got the entire 'war on drugs' thing wrong. Admit that yes, Bill inhaled (nobody will be surprised. believe me). And push for legalization of cannabis.

Riche [TotalFark] 2007-12-15 06:15:02 PM
Wow. A Republican who respects the constitution even LESS than the current shiat-for-brains president.

Best case for the country: Huckabee just barely gets the Republican nomination after a brutal and venom-filled campaign and national convention. The actual conservatives break away and start their own party, leaving the GOP to the fundie wackjobs.

Meanwhile, Obama easily gets the Democratic nomination and later the White House.

After several election cycles, the new conservative party emerges as a real force in U.S. politics. Not enough to dominate or even stay in a majority for long, but powerful enough to keep the Democrats honest and fiscally responsible.

===========================

I wonder how Huckabee would rationalize taking the oath of office on a bible only to immediately start breaking that oath.

curmudge 2007-12-15 06:17:00 PM
Weaver95 I suspect that she also inhaled and I don't care. I agree about the whole War on Drugs thing, this country has much more important things to deal with than what an adult choses to put in his body. Even if Hillary did as you suggested I still wouldn't vote for her but it would be nice to see one major political figure tell the truth for a change.

I'd also like to see a candidate (any candidate) admit that social security is farked. I mean royally farked. The war on poverty and 'great society' legacy programs are gonna kill us in the end. The first step to a cure is admitting we've got a problem.

And really, we've got a LOT of problems. At both the state and federal levels, the legislative branch is abdicating it's authority to the courts and the executive branches. It'd be nice to see someone tell Congress to STFU and GBTW. Take your pick on which issue to start with: drugs, social security, national security, reigning in some of our more out of control corporations...there's something there for all of us.

white women in the suburbs might have smoked before but they don't want it easier for their kids to get 'the dope'. White women also like Obama so she's gonna hold steady on that one because that's her base.

Consider it progress...now we actually have Democrats from normal states (Kuchinich) and Republicans from crazy square states talking about legalization. It will get done when people realize how much money is wasted that can be spent on X.

I like Dennis. If democrats were true democrats and not just republican lite (and he was 6' tall and a meat eater) he'd be the nominee.

I'd vote for him in the primary but my state is a super tuesday state that could swing the nomination to either Hildog or Obama.

GaryPDX: I want Ron Paul as Veep. He could run around slapping everyone in the face with the pocket Constitution. You know, just to remind folks.

His ignorance of the constitution is startling.

You could ask him a pretty easy constitutional question like: "What are the positives and negatives of substantive due process rights, and do you believe they exist in the constitution?" and I think you'd be suprised at how trivial his answer is.

RodneyToady [TotalFark] 2007-12-15 07:05:37 PM
The next few weeks will be interesting. One of my coworkers was a journalist in New England a few years back, and was assigned to follow around Gary Bauer during his presidential bid. His political instinct is pretty sharp. He's been predicting that Huckabee would come on strong for a while now, and it's coming to fruition.

His prediction is Huckabee will knock out the rest of the weaker candidates, putting McCain, Thompson, and the single-digit guys out of contention (save Ron Paul, who'll run as long as he can). He'll challenge Romney for the more conservative states, while not affecting Giuliani for the more liberal ones. We may be a couple of weeks away from a bona fide three man race for the GOP.

Also, I have to say, Weaver95, you're one of my favorites in the political discussions here. I agree with you maybe 1/3 of the time, but I never have any inkling when your positions will overlap with mine. Reading your posts has definitely broadened my perspective on politics. Hat's off to you, sir!

I don't see how Social Security and the War on Poverty amount to 'shooting people in the foot as they start the race'. It's more like giving everyone a shot of HGH before the race.

I'd stop punishing people for saving for their kids education. I'd make it easier for the kids themselves to make money to put towards that education. And i'd stop punishing kids for their parents income.
