Quite interesting. The story of the H. habilis and H. erectus fossils shedding more light on hominid evolution (in the traditional fashion of great discoveries: by making us ask more questions and re-think our prior answers) is my favorite.

Well, sure. If you insist on using evidence and all, and bias the process against the Jesus-on-a-dino crowd.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be studying for my GED in Archaeology.

FTFA: Polynesians in oceangoing canoes brought chickens to the west coast

Calling a waka a "canoe" is like calling Paris Hilton "somewhat promiscuous"
"Europeans were the great discoverers when some genoan guy gets lost across the narrow part of the narrow ocean.... Kupe crossed the pacific hundreds of years earlier. Polynesians have been calling Te Moanui a Kiwa (Pacific Ocean) home for millenia.

In the recent issue of Scientific American, there was a great quote about how disturbing it was that Americans were increasingly turning towards religion and superstition instead of science and learning.

Except in Christianity, Jesus wasn't viewed as a profit but instead another incarnation of the deity.

And Allah and God are the same "being" even under Muslim standards.

I thought he was not viewed for profit until the catholics setup ;) (sure you mean prophet)
He is viewed as a prophet by others - that "son of god" thing is kinda specific to one group that I do not personally adhere to.

The original post that started this sub-thread was to dispute the juxtaposition of "allah" for jesus by Triaxis. Suggesting that mohammed would be more appropriate as a replacement in that context.

Lord Summerisle: the traditional western view of Jesus

hehehe, thats funny, but a little reaching ;)
Tall, sure
Handsome, not so much
noble-looking, .... not like any noble Ive seen
wise gentle eyes, perhaps, kinda hard to tell since he appears to be the only media person to have never had a decent camera, I guess attacking the US, and avoiding the western world's military and intelligence forces is easier than visiting a camera store for ye-ole basic digi-cam

But I bet Osama has ridden a dinosaur (hopefully right off a cliff)

FTFA: In 1532, Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro recorded the presence of chickens in Peru, where the Inca used them in religious ceremonies. "That suggests chickens had already been there for a while," says Storey. "It's possible there are stylized chickens in the iconography that we have not recognized because we did not know they were there.

People don't accept Scientific pronouncements? I wonder why. Let's look at this again, shall we?

It's on record tha chickens were in Peru in the 16th C.

Scientists are apparently illiterate because they were unable to read this record and see that chickens were in Peru. Instead, they did not know they were there.

If you are wondering why people distrust Science, here's a good example.

Science says, Accept Global Warmening because we have old records which we must read/use/accept.

Science says, We don't bother to read/use/accept old records and are now surprised because we didn't do so.

Looking at this, it's easy for someone to come to the conclusion that Science only uses the evidence that promotes an agenda and ignores everything else. When someone admits that they were ignorant of the historical record -- a written record -- it isn't hard to find yourself wondering what else has been missed. Start factoring in all the discredited Science pronouncements (eugenics instantly comes to mind, but there are many more) and the belief that Science has a monopoly on Truth rapidly crumbles.

Unfortunatly for a lot of people, Science has become their church, and they are as fervent about defending the faith as any other fundie.

Khazar-Khum: Science has become their church

Science is a method not an entity.
It is DESIGNED to contradict previous findings.

The fact that it does that does not invalidate new findings, it just proves the method is correct.

If your response to this is to assume everyone is just following blindly then apparently you do not know very many actual scientists.

Khazar-Khum: /comes from a family of distinguished scientists

And they didn't explain the concept to you ? that is sad, sorry to hear that.
Perhaps some web reading is in order ? start with www.dictionary.com, and go from there.

// Anyone who sees science is a religion apparently does not understand science, or religion.
