Paul Stanley = Total Schwab

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2007-12-15 10:34:08 AM
Paul Stanley is not worthy of licking dogshiat off a Zeppelin roadie's shoe.

...having said that, I wish there were far fewer "reunion tours..."

Bauer [TotalFark] 2007-12-15 10:54:25 AM
to be fair to the average music "fan"...kiss and their classic tune "rock and roll all night"...has probably produced more beer swilling maroons concieved in the backseat of an old p.o.s. buick, than anything led zeppelin has ever wrote.

-culture warriors unite!

he's a douche, but he's right, and the members of zeppelin have said so several times themselves. that's why they practiced their arses off in secret for this one - and why it was so much better than the previous "reunions."

KISS was the herald of the downfall of true rock n roll.

I cannot conceive of a more pretentious talentless band.

Smitty here. I used to be the biggest KISS fan I knew. I began getting fed up a while ago, but now Gene and Paul have their heads so far up their arses, I have zero respect for them anymore.

However, in regard to the link above, someone mentions KISS fans have no taste in music or have little knowledge of music. To that I retort KISS was the first music that I could call mine. Something I identified with or was entertained by. Of course my tastes grew (into an eclectic array far beyond rock), but I still loves me some Dressed to Kill or Rock and Roll Over.

/I just don't like what Paul has to say here.
//he's in no position to criticize.
///even if he's right.

/fark off if you don't like the ironic tag.

The point most people miss about them is that they inspired so much talent. There has to be something to that.
Music evolves. You can't really expect classic rock to be something that gets recorded forever.

I wouldn't call Kiss pretentious at all. I think even they would admit that their sole reason for being around was to make money and fark women.

That said, Kiss' legacy is awful music, hair metal and absolutely nothing more.

I don't expect to be able to turn you on to KISS, but to describe them this way is completely inaccurate. They didn't make anything close to metal until the 80s. You obviously have never heard anything other than what they played on the radio.

Then again, you may be saying "Despite having made some really good rock and roll, they will be remembered for the crap that made it to the radio and selling their likeness as license despite calling this the reason they removed their make-up the first time."

Either way, I'm not saying they contributed to music in any way other than theatrically, but they stilled played some great songs you will never hear, and their shows were kick-ass... until they made a mockery of themselves.

I really hate that Paul is going the way of Gene. I bet he really thinks he's doing it in a much less commercial, more artistic way.

This retard has no right to even say the name Led Zeppelin, let alone criticize them.

I wouldn't call them hair metal. That's more Van Halen and Skid Row: music that's really overdone and tasteless and stereotypically '80s. Kiss on the other hand was just a gimmick band that got a second wind during the '70s nostalgia craze of the '90s. If anything, they're a fourth-rate Alice Cooper/Ozzy clone.

/nothing against Alice!

KISS's legacy has little to do with music at all. These are the guys who took the theatrics that Bowie and Alice Cooper had started and turned it into a business. Merchandising was their game. To this day, Gene Simmons claims that he is in "The Gene Simmons Business". They created a product and successfully sold it for MILLIONS for over 30 years!

Now turn on MTV or VH1 and tell me that they have no legacy. Zeppelin (God bless them) have very little to do with today's music scene. KISS C-R-E-A-T-E-D today's music scene. And saldy, like I said...it has very little to do with MUSIC at all.

/Sad but true.

zappaisfrank [TotalFark] 2007-12-15 03:57:08 PM
The ironic part about the statement is that Kiss did a few reunion tours with the all original lineup. However, once they started hiring guys to pretend to be Ace or Peter, "shambolicilarity" ensued quickly!

Eric Singer & Tommy Thayer in makeup are not the real Ace and Peter, and that is why 21st century Kiss sucks donkey dicks.

The other problem is that Gene and Paul fail to acknowledge that there are a whole lotta Kiss fans who like Ace and Peter and think those two are weenies. Me included.

AdolfOliverPanties [TotalFark] 2007-12-15 03:58:59 PM
KISS music sucks, with very little exception. They were always a musically-retarded garage band that found out the rubes liked make-up and pyro. They do have the sense to at least state what a great deal of their fans will not; namely that they were never in it for the music.

Most of those shows were just thrown together and I wouldnt really call them reunions, more like jam sessions and thats about what they appeared to be. Now ask paul what his excuse was for that shiatty show that kiss performed under a bridge on new years eve or something like that when they sounded like shiat? I would never pay more than $20 to see them live and this is from a guy who used to draw them on his notebooks when I was 9 and thought they were kool.

All of their songs sucked, they were more rock anthems than anything else with maybe 3 good songs in their whole career. They get A+ for their marketing skill but a D- for their musical skills and an F- for you thinking they inspired anyone. More credit goes to Slade, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, New York Dolls, and plenty more than kiss, they can get credit for turning the music biz into the marketing shiat fest it is today. Congrats.

Admittedly true, but Kiss have always given me the impression of being in it solely for the money/women and not at all for the love of music. That's why I associate them hair metal. They set the template for 80s arena rock.

Any one member of Led Zeppelin has more talent in his little finger than all member of Kiss combined have in their whole bodies. Even the late John Bonham. Led Zeppelin's music is timeless art. Kiss's music is a manufactured commodity built to grab a buck from teenage boys, nothing more.

KISS isn't "overrated." Think about the time and place. It was new and exciting level of showmanship, which was all about entertainment.

Nobody will ever accuse Led Zeppelin of being great entertainers. There is no comparison between the two. Pink Floyd became great entertainers and great music, even better than Led Zeppelin.

monkeydoodledandy: The point most people miss about them is that they inspired so much talent.

Exactly. Unless you were a kid in the 70's, you are not going to get it.

The Beatles made more people pick up a guitar, and that's it, because KISS is in second place on that list. Velvet Underground, my ass. I like the Velvets, but get real.

Elitist pricks like Jann Wenner and Dave Marsh know this, too. They break their necks looking the other way.

The first three VU records are a virtual crystal ball of where music would go for the next 20 years or so and spawned multiple genres (Goth, Punk, avant garde rock, etc.). Not to mention they are still relevant now, especially compared to a lot of what else was popular at the time.

Can you say the same about Kiss? Certainly they inspired teenage boys in the 70s to pick up a guitar... but that's about where it ends. As cool as their concerts may have been, Alice Cooper and Pink Floyd have them beat both in terms of quality of music AND live spectacles. To say nothing about them beating Kiss to the punch as far as cool live shows go.

Kiss is for idiots who just want to "rock out" on their drive to work and who don't pay attention to music otherwise. Kiss was the Nickelback of the 70s. Yes, I did go there.

If you equate Rock and Roll to
acid trips
meaningful lyrics
amazing musicianship
Then KISS sucks.

If you equate Rock and Roll to
three chord jams
p*ssing off the parents
acting cool to get laid
not taking life seriously
Then KISS was ROCK AND ROLL incarnate.

I always hated KISS, but only because my brother was a huge fan, and you know how kids can be. (I was in second grade when I first heard them, bro was in fifth.)

I know some of you are old enough to remember the corny TV movie they made, where someone stole their 'power-symbols' or whatever, and they had to get them back. That pretty much cemented my dislike for them. That being said, I've always wanted to see them live, just because the shows look like they kick ass.
