Well, if he's losing weight for something he loves, win win I guess.

Bullseye_blam 2007-12-15 02:56:51 PM
he's still fat.

/someone had to say it, right?
//good for him getting this far

Switchblades 2007-12-15 02:57:07 PM
Actually, I think the "Fark" in the story is that 250 pounds was still less than half his weight.

That means he started off weighing like...3 of me. What the fark.

FahQue 2007-12-15 02:57:19 PM
Holy shait he looks like Ed Bundy!

okami36 2007-12-15 02:57:42 PM
He's stopped being a fatty.

Good for him.

Whatever motivation it takes to lose weight is fine with me. Rather see him bowling than watching sports from his couch.

Florida tag not needed here IMO.

Dude, if bowling makes him happy and encourages him to change his life, more power to him.

Sides, those little white pins are racist rednecks and they all should be destroyed. They should be attacked as often as possible.

And the fact that he realized the error of his ways and lost it again is awesome.

We could keep this up all day long.

Maybe not, but if you calculate his BMI [fark off, BMI haters, this guy aint full of muscle], at 250 pounds and 6'4", he has a BMI of 30.5, which is still obese.

And that is barely obese by BMI standards. Also, when you lose that much weight, you wind up with 10-20lbs of extra skin. BMI doesn't count that either.

/I speak from experience on this one.

tomcatadam: BMI is bullshiat and you know it.

it's that kind of attitude which accepts obesity. this guy isn't just a little overweight still; he's obese. as in, if you saw him with his shirt off, he'd still have a nice fat gut.

for some reason, most Americans think this is acceptable.

BMI of 30 is obese; if he lost 4 lbs he would no longer be obese. If he lost 45 he'd no longer even be considered overweight. 6'4 is pretty big.

Though he probably has a crapload of skin, so he probably doesn't look very good with his shirt off.

Compared to what he looked like before, this is quite an accomplishment.

Yes. He's obese. According to a scale derived in the middle of the nineteenth century in Belgium which doesn't take into account the difference between muscle and bone and actual fat.

Another way to look at it is that he was remarkably overweight but took steps to bring himself down to even being in the discussion as reasonable. Also, nice conjecture about what the dude's gut looks like.

3/10

BMI is 100% bull shiat. It doesn't account for the size of your frame or bone density. There is now way it can be accurate for anybody other than a select group of "average" people. Other than that, it is useless.

And...

The man lost 250 pounds. That is a major accomplishment, no matter how you spin it. For the haters - you make it sound like 500 pounds is as bad as 258.

Is that the PS2 game where you play Amaterasu in wolf form? I've been looking for that one for ages...well...every time I have the money to spend on video games.

You're in Louisville? I used to live in that area. Still got friends down in Radcliff. (Yes, Army brat, lived at Ft. Knox for several years.)

BMI discussion: He's only 4 inches taller and about 30 lbs heaiver than me now. I'd have a hard time calling that "obese." Even if he is classed that way, would you loko at him on the street and immediately think of him as a fatty? Somehow, I doubt it.

you get big boned because you are fat.

On top of that, he was very obese before. So a lot of his current weight is just excess skin folds.

He went through the effort to lose a lot of weight. Why are all the haters shiatting on him? At least he tried. And succeeded.

The wife and I started bowling in early 2007. I lost 50+ lbs since then. She lost 70+. We bowl two or three times a week. With coupons and specials, it's not that costly.

Lose weight. Make friends. Knock shiat down. What's not to love. (180 average)

Indeed it is that game, and I highly suggest it. TONS of hours of fun fulfilling gaming in there. It had nothing to do with the discussion, just happened to see your username while fighting a giant spider queen. And why yes, I do live in Louisville -- it hasn't changed much I'm sure, it rarely does.

Mis-use of the "Florida" tag. His motive for weight loss aside, he's making a healthy choice, so good for him.

And for you "libertarians", he's going to be less of a drain on your precious healthcare pennies, so you should fully support that.

If you live near a college, try the bowling alleys that give "student evenings," where the games are discounted to get more students to show up. You don't have to prove you are a student to get a discount, either.

And for added security, there are always at least three police officers stationed there. To catch all the drunk students.
