That is one of the most stupids things I ever heard. That cop should be fired for misuse of power. If I was dragged in for everything i cursed out in my house, I would be in for life!

signaljammer 2007-12-15 11:52:05 AM
In a similar situation in my youth my mom uttered the phrase: "Hold it, hold it!" just as a verbal release.

Sadly, my little brother took her ejaculation literally.

//Cute kid,
//but. . .

I know that some states have laws that are a couple hundred years old. I think that each state, city, municipality or whatever should go through the laws that are at least 100 years or older and review them. If the law is silly and stupid now, it should be overturned or whatever is needed to un-law it.

stevarooni 2007-12-15 12:09:00 PM
Confusing article. I had to read three paragraphs in to discover that this profanity was in her own kitchen, but I still don't know if this was an apartment, if the off-duty cop was a guest or just peeping in her window, or what. Terrible.

Snocones 2007-12-15 12:09:10 PM
I just noticed that I saw "whatever" a lot. Sorry.

I had to read this like nine times before I got it right.

The images that went through my head on the way to cognition were quite unpleasant.

Kinda sad that now-a-days "activist judges" are the ones who are upholding and reaffirming our basic constitutional rights.

Except that one in Frisco...then cats is whacked.

Unless I did mean that afterwards cats are killed?

hmm.

Eh? Even if disorderly conduct is a old law (which may not be true), why would the lawmakers think it's silly or stupid? It's a catch-all that cops use to arrest anybody who hasn't done anything wrong. It's a great way to hassle or harrass a person you don't like.

A Judge should be able to hold the cop for contempt for disrespecting the court by bringing someone up on BS charges.

ScottMpls 2007-12-15 12:51:03 PM
Great. Does this mean I can still rage against the storm too?

ChaoticLimbs 2007-12-15 12:52:04 PM
I agree. Contempt of Law should be to law enforcement officers what contempt of court is for everyone else. Violate someone's rights, and get charged with it as a crime. It may even be treason to use your standards in law enforcement when they conflict directly with the Constitutional standards.

Sort of like mopery with intent to creep.

I think there should be some sort of unforgettable negative feedback associated with its misuse. Say, if the judge throws it out, you get a week off without pay. Same for the faux "lawful order".

There have been other cases like this in Pennsylvania, and I have to give the various judges in this state props for always siding with the First Amendment. If nothing else, I know I can get away with swearing here.

Now if only we could buy motherf**king beer in the motherf**king supermarket here, life would be pretty f**king sweet.

Spanky_McFarksalot 2007-12-15 01:03:38 PM
Thank you ACLU judge with some common sense.

Gee man.. that sux.. we get beer at the supermarket here AND we don't have dumbass police officers arresting people for swearing.

/Maine for the win

I was watching an episode of The Office while I was reading the article and Dwight said, "Scranton" at the exact same time that I read it in the article. It was like the voice I have in my brain when I read things suddenly transformed into Dwight. I was amused.

Both should be thanked. If the ACLU hadn't defended her for free, she couldn't have fought the charges in the first place.

John Denver 2007-12-15 02:25:44 PM
The article is very vague. The local news has been covering it better for months. The police officer is the woman's neighbor and was off duty at the time. The cop got pissed off and misused his power. The judge isn't an activist judge, that's just silly.

Oh. Okay. Now I see. Thanks.

It was the "brother took [mother's] ejaculation literally" part that threw me.

I cringe every time I hear the term "activist judge." It shows the term's user's complete ignorance of the American legal system.

Not that my complaint has much relevance to this thread, just a general gripe.

signaljammer 2007-12-15 07:09:56 PM
Yeah, upon reflection that could seem to embody rather tawdry overtones, sorry. I should have used 'exclamation' or something.

//See where you coulda thought
//you were reading 'grouphug' or something

//again, apologies.
