I'd agree with about half that statement...

Seems that Tori is a bit full of herself.
Sure they might have been rude, but they also could've gone to Hannah Montana.
Demanding that fans that come to your show act a certain way that pleases you, seems a bit much. Perhaps Tori should be happy they were even there at all.

She interrupted a song just to swear at a couple people on cell phones? What a biatch.

Seems that Tori is a bit full of herself.

This.

Things went so well, she does that bit now at every show.

/Patti Smith used to pull that same crap of stopping the show and berating someone in the front row. Spices up a boring set.

How I miss the Tori of the Little Earthquakes days. Just her and a piano. So simple. So good.

If I found myself in the front row of a Tori Amos concert, I just leave my seat once and not come back.

Thanks for reminding me that I'm no longer constantly subjected to any of her shiatty music, subby.

Doesn't make you any better of an artist.

BooBoo KittyFark 2007-12-15 02:59:05 AM
She was right to kick them out. It is a live performance for crying our loud. It is incredibly rude and distracting to the performers as well as the audience members around those two idiots who paid to hear the music, not their phone conversation.

Hell, your supposed to turn off your phone at the movies and just about any performance you go to. Not a major Tori Amos fan, but those two self-absorbed rude biaches deserved it IMHO.

cider [TotalFark] 2007-12-15 03:00:15 AM
Talented people don't do this stuff because they have shows that keep people occupied. They like their fans and are happy people go to their shows.

So basically you have no idea how to behave politely in public, and it someone calls you on it they're the biatch? You must be a joy to be around.

I take it you've never been to a show where the person next to you won't shut up, huh? Just because you paid for the ticket doesn't give you the license to be an ass.

Passive Aggressive Larry [TotalFark] 2007-12-15 05:56:47 AM
She sounded like a biatch until I heard about the front-row ticket thing. In that case just wait until the damn show is over to blog about it on your myspace, ya dumb coonts.

I work for an auction company part time. Big place, most sales are in the multi million dollar range. He has a "please, no cell phones" sign up front and others scattered around the facility. If you need to talk go outside or away from the bidding area.

This summer we had a huge auction. We were just starting a bid round on a table that started at 400k....and some woman in the front row let out his huge laugh. The owner looked down at her, said "this will sell for much more than that, I don't see what's so funny". She looked up and was yapping on her cell phone. He busted her big time, she left in a huff. People applauded. Then we got down to biz.

Lady saw me and started giving me lip over her being called out. I told her that sitting in the front row cackling like a friggin hen is poor behavior, esp since you've been told several times not to do that. She said she'd never bid on anything again and stormed out. I looked, she did bid on roughly 75% of the items....but never won, which you can't do if you bid $100.00 on something that starts out at 5k. Moran.

GungFu: What if the girls received a message that their parents had just been killed in accident.

You'd think that if their parents died they would have gotten up and left instead of sitting there gabbing away.

They were in a state of shock, and only Tori's music soothed their
heartache. And besides, it was their deceased parents wish they went to the concert they had saved for all year; being that it was a treat for one of the girls since she beat brain cancer.

Nerdlinger 2007-12-15 08:32:03 AM
nashBridges: I'd be a little irritated as well if I gave someone the equivalent of a $400 ticket and they dicked around on a cell phone during the first song.

In what universe is any ticket to a Tori Amos show worth 400 dollars? Did they tape $390 under the seats or something?

At least when David Lowery booted a guy from a Cracker show for shouting out requests for "Take The Skinheads Bowling" (you can hear it on their Flash Your Sirens CD) they gave him a chance to stay in the show if he could sing the song he kept asking for. There was no overblown BS like, "It's a privilege to sit in the front row of my shows" (get over yourself, sweetie), just a "dude, you're bothering people by yelling the same thing all the time".

GungFu: What if the girls received a message that their parents had just been killed in accident.

That would be rather selfish of their parents, getting killed while their children are a concert. If they have to die, parents ought to do it a convenient time for their children.

Best instance of this I remember was many years ago in Houston (mid-70's). Some drunk hippie girl kept yelling at Ray Wylie Hubbard to play "Redneck Mothers." He finally stopped and told her something to the effect of "Look lady, I'm gonna get to it, but right now I'm tripping my ass off and if you don't stop screaming at me, I'm gonna lose my shiat."

Good times, good times...

For a lot of her songs, it's just her and a Bosendorfer grand piano that costs more than a Lamborghini.

It's not a rock concert.

/I'm assuming so, got tired of her "faeries and magick and volcano goddesses" schtick after Under The Pink.

Her reaction doesn't shock me too much. Then again, I'm used to Robert Fripp. He's another artist that will take you to task for messing with the vibe of the show.

Honestly, if you're in the first couple of rows, I think you should be held to a higher standard of conduct, simply because you can throw off the performer.

Classic Fripp.

I'm sure they paid good money to see her, but so did the people sitting next to them. Of course I favor the death penalty for people who talk on cell phones at a movie.....

fark this biatch. That was pop star grandstanding and nothing else. The people that should be ashamed are the masses of douchebags that didn't know what was supposedly going on and cheered because their egomaniac celebrity singled someone out. Nice example of the willingness of your average crowd to go along with whoever has the microphone and stage, though.

At the same time, anyone that listens to Tori Amos is a complete loser so I don't feel so sorry for any of them.

Absolutely. Because nobody actually hates asshats talking on the phone in the middle of movies or concerts, most folks think it's perfectly charming behavior. They only applaud because the person on stage "singled someone out."

Idiot.

vudukungfu: pretty impressive business you have;seems like you're making a living with music. don't listen to the jealous haters.

I don't blame Tori Amos one bit. She's there to perform for people who are there to want to be intently involved in the music experience. It would piss me the fark off too if some bimbos were ruining the enjoyment experience of others -- it's damn rude. Good for Tori for having the balls to call 'em out and send the bimbos on their way OUT.

Here's the statement from her record producer, TMZ:

"Tori doesn't sell front row seats to her shows. She'll pick fans that are in the back row and she will upgrade them. It is a privilege to get picked. Apparently these two girls were on their cell phones all night... It was her sticking up for her other fans that missed out on the opportunity."

I knew someone who worked security at a local venue here and he worked a Tori Amos show a few years back. He said it was a farking nightmare. Fifteen minutes before showtime, she made everyone backstage leave. If she saw anyone backstage, she would raise Hell and threaten to not play. She also made them light hundreds of incense sticks and she needed a red carpet leading from her dressing room to the stage and wouldn't leave the dressing room until it was put down.

He said that experience depressed him since he was actually a fan of hers. She made no time for fans and just got the heck out of there after showtime. He also said the show was so boring he almost fell asleep several times on the side of the stage.

Ok, dude, you're in a band that plays atmospheric and instrumental music, how exactly do you "dedicate" a song to someone in such a way that they could find threatening or humiliating?

Louder, more frenzied birdsong on your "wind and birds" track?

Angrier birds on your tape loop?

Hurricanes instead of gentle rains?

I'm curious, walk me through a mid-set fiasco where you totally wtfpwn some kid at your show, assuming you have anyone under 50 at one of your shows.

/not buying it.
