Ummm...no. Every one of those are in the history books. I knew about all of them. You just don't pay attention.

People seem unaware of how PC history books have to be over the last 20 years or so.

GaryPDX: Ummm...no. Every one of those are in the history books.

Maybe if you ditched the history book they gave you for class and wandered around the history section of your local public library.

Great stuff...we need to know these kind of events happened. Never forget.

The victors write history. Besides, back then seemed like the right thing to do. Hindsight makes it ugly. What we needs is a new stealth weapon, 20/20 foresight. We'd be golden.

Sure it did. To the bad guys, the hypocrites that called themselves "Christians."

The purpose of hindsight is to attempt to not make the same mistakes they did.

Dude, that merry go round has been spinning throughout time. The beauty of history repeating itself boils down to interpretation. It's inescapable. It's only a matter of when and where.

The fact is that we've never been at a better place in history to make up for past indescretions. There's never been a country like this one where ordinary people are citizens alongside the elite.

We are at a point where we could really change things, and justifying previous bad behaviors as "oh well, they thought it was the right thing to do" is a cop-out.

Keep in mind that there were people then as now speaking out against injustice, prejudice and imperialism.

Remember, if white, cultured people kill someone, it's evil and they should be punished for all eternity.

If barbaric terrorists like bin Laden kill someone, it's their poor oppressed culture. Either that or it's whitey's fault.

Nope. I hated history, so there was not a chance I'd do anything of the sort. I knew about these.

Every one of those are in the history books, just with a somewhat less ridiculous spin.

SoxSweepAgain 2007-12-14 07:24:42 PM
I knew all of this stuff. Jeebus, they're missing things.

A lot of these actions were started with faked enemy attacks, which aren't mentioned.

That's a pattern to watch.

I disagree. Not every one of them, and not in the books I read.

I learned most of them from reading Howard Zinn, much recently.

And then I look over there and people are chopping other peoples heads off. I don't think we're as civilized as you think we are.

I want to believe, though.

Dude, I don't think you grasp the gravity of this Judicial change in Mexico. This could spark a revolt down there. Try to imagine where millions of refugees will go to get out of the way of the shooting. One guess...just one.

We're talking Exodus proportions of population displacement. This is not good at all.

Mexico, of all the countries in this part of the world, is ripe for such a revolt.

And if they come here, maybe it'll spur some needed debate, if not outright indignation...

Hey Afternoon_Delight, in your little world view, who exactly gets the blame for the US foreign policy that stamps out populist regimes, often called socialist, for tyrannical dictators that won't say anything bad about the US, as long as they can abuse their people.

I'll give you a hint. This happened a lot during the years of Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, and Bush I and II.

I bet you won't respond to this at all.

North Korea is described as "progressive forces"

Viet Nam is described as an attempted de-colonization from the French, with the later Communist genocide blamed on the U.S.

Rwanda is blamed on the U.S. as a sin of omission, claiming the U.S. blocked action

"Che Guevera is captured by CIA and U.S.-trained Bolivian Rangers on October 8 and executed the next day"
No mention that he was a paid executioner for Castro and was captured invading, and inciting armed rebellion against, a sovereign democratic nation.

Claims that in 2002 a US-backed coup failed against Chavez in Venezuela. First I have heard that it was US backed from anyone but Chavez.

Whatever truth is listed in this abortion of a site, such as the annexation of Hawaii or the massacres at Wounded Knee, etc, it is discredited by the ignorant, pro-totalitarian, crap mixed in with it.

That's generous. Fark is really the inverse crucible. You end up with all the dross staying right here. I can't even remember when a thread like this didn't leave me gobsmacked at the stupidity. Afternoon_Delight: You mean you're not getting paid to be here 24/7?

It's Friday night at 11:30PM. Most of my friends are out of town and my girlfriend isn't going to be home for another hour. I could go and drink at a bar and drink and listen to idiots defend state-sponsored terrorism and support for dictators, but it's cheaper and funnier just to stay in tonight and watch you do it.

By the way, while you're busy championing "America", our foreign policy, and our fight against terrorism- what exactly are you doing for our troops? I'd mentioned in another thread that I am collecting donations of books, CDs, console games, DVDs, etc. to donate to Walter Reed the next time I visit. I'll even send you prepaid shipping material if you'd like to actually help out beyond fellating the Republican party. Gmail me if you're interested. Maybe you can cough up a few of your "hard-earned" bucks for someone that actually walks what you talk.
