Oh. I get it. Tim "Ripper" Owens, Judas Priest, Rock Star movie plot etc etc.

Who gives a crap about Anthrax anyway?

Haldemonster 2007-12-14 03:27:35 PM
I do. But I really think they should just let Scott sing. He fits them better anyway and does a lot of backup vocals anyhow.

hnlzero 2007-12-14 03:37:28 PM
just get billy milano

Slapbumwalla 2007-12-14 03:37:42 PM
I wish someone would have grabbed Ian and started smacking him, "Call John Bush and apologize! Apologize now for the cash grab of the reunion! Get! Him! Back!"

Love Anthrax. Love Anthrax with John Bush even more. Hopefully Nelson will work out.

/Great headline, subby

Anything is better than Belladonna. But yeah, they really should have gotten John Busah back, he farking ruled.

I do. Only one of the thrash bands that was any fun, and not full of take-me-seriously "artistes" like Mustaine and Ulrich.

Put it this way, if Some Kind of Monster had been about Anthrax it would have been twice as interesting and ten times as entertaining, despite, (or perhaps because of) the fact that they're nothing like as big as Metallica.

Kinda glad they're not getting Belladonna back though, it has to be said he is a godawful singer vocalist. Worse even than Mustaine, (just).

This is it, Bush was good, but in a kinda hard-rock way. I'd like to see someone with them who trod more of a middle ground between "sing" and "shout", Dickinson sort of vibe but without the opera. Who knows, not heard this new guy obviously, he could be brilliant.

THIS!

But I will still buy the next Anthrax CD because everything they have put out that I own kicks ass no matter who is singing for them.

Anthrax lost their uniqeness when Belladonna left. Bush is technically a good vocalist, but he sounds painfully generic. It also didn't help that when he joined Anthrax decided to tune down their guitars and start sounding like a grunge band (in part to fit his voice).

Cool, however lets see an SOD reunion show.

I actually liked Joey Belladonna. Spreading the Disease was my favorite of all their albums.

They came to town when I was in high school but it was a 21+ show. We went to their meet and greet at a record store but they didn't show up. We went over to the venue trying to figure out how to get in and ended up hanging out with the band in the parking lot for quite a while. Got everyones autograph, shook hands, but they couldn't get us in the show :(

In the credits on their next album they put something in like "to all the kids in Phoenix that couldn't get in, but moshed in the parking lot" or something like that. I thought that was pretty cool at the time.

Ripper really is available now that he got fired from Iced Earth.

Or they could have just got Scott Ian to rap everything.

Beat. Not.

Really?
I like Anthrax new and old, but I think John Bush's voice is so much better than Belladonna's. Bush's voice is great because it's naturally gravelly, so he can sing with grit and not sound like he's doing a cookie-monster impression. With the exception of Spreading the Disease, a lot of the Belladonna stuff doesn't sound like singing as much as it does someone talking really loud. He's not a bad singer, his voice is just too clean for Anthrax's style of music, especially the style they evolved into starting around Persistence of Time and onwards.

P.S. Bush's "My whole liiiiiiiiife!" scream at the end of "Only" moves me more than all of Belladonna's work combined.

agreed on both counts. and agree with the part about apologizing to Bush as well.

again, very nicely put, and i agree fully.

I really liked where their sound was headed on We've Come For You All, I'd like to see it continue in that direction.

Well, part of the problem I mentioned was that they took a more grungy direction after Persistence of Time. Persistence of Time worked because it wasn't gritty, but frantic and tense (except for Got the Time, which always felt out of place). The Sound of White Noise starts decently with Potters Field and Only, but the rest is mostly midpaced songs that drag into each other.

).

Anthrax was tuning down as far back as Among The Living if not Spreading the Disease. C# sometimes.

Why don't they give Phil Anselmo a call? It's not like he's doing anything important anymore.

"Anthrax was among heavy metal's biggest names in the 1980s and early 1990s"

That must have been in an alternate reality. The one with goatee Spock and Psycho Sulu.

In other news Down III: Over the Under was released in November to positive reviews on a subsidiary of Warner... who is Anthrax recording with these days?

Oh snap. Last I heard he was still farting around with that Spliff Superstars or whatever weed band.
