(YouTube) Spiffy 2006 "Casino Royale" opening credits overdubbed with original 1967 Herb Alpert "Casino Royale" theme. Q, M, and half-dozen 007s prefer this to that boring Chris Cornell song   (youtube.com) divider line 38

I know it's probably one of those, "I'm up late, buzzed, wow-Pink-Floyd-syncs-perfectly-with-Oz" observations, but damn.

That really does fit well. But then I hated that Chris Cornell song.

Another vote for the original Casino Royale theme.

You know, this reminds me of Eddie Izzard talking about the kind of music you would expect at the Salisbury Plains and the type of music you would expect at Trump Towers. That music is, well, trump towers. Its not a bad tune and it would need to be redone to be more dramatic, but it could be awesome. I didn't care much for the Chris Cornell song.

mhd 2007-12-14 06:09:00 AM
Well, I'm not too fond of Cornell's voice, but the song was certainly better than what we got recently. The instrumental cues where there, the chorus wasn't too bad. Certainly better than Madonna or Sheryl Crow and better than what Tina Turner had to work with.

/She has the Bond voice, but "Goldeneye" was a weak song
//And so it perfectly fit the movie.

One of the best soundtrack albums ever (the original, of course.)

Too bad they didn't sync it up with the closing credits of the 1967 movie which featured the same song with Peter Sellers singing.

I like Chris Cornell, but that theme was atrocious!

There is always room in this world for Herb Alpert.

Wow, I didn't realize people hated the Cornell theme that much. I loved it, so much that I put it on my ipod so I could walk to work with a little extra strut, pretending I was cool like Bond.

Arm yourself because no one else here could saaave you.

/Maybe its just because I really liked the movie.

The biggest fault I had with the new Casino Royale was the lack of naked chicks bouncing around in the opening credits.

Serious fail there.

As a 20 year old, that yani music doesn't really flow ( crescendo's and decrescendo's) with the opening. The syncopation of the upbeat trumpets blended with the scene about as well as anchovies on pizza (not very well). Mow your lawns you geezers.

Now whenever I watch Casino Royale, I really like it for some reason.

I was kinda surprised too. I liked the song, but then again I loved that movie. Daniel Craig is full of win.

I thought the Chris Cornell theme kicked ass. I put it on my iPod, cause its that good. This theme was ok, but the Cornell one was so much better.

Very much so. Cornell is a great musician. If you liked that song, check out some of his solo stuff. "Pillow of your Bones" and "Can't change me" are pretty cool.

Fark me, that was hella lameass.

People here are trying way too hard to blow Herb Alpert's trumpet.

The visuals DO NOT farking fit the music, as fun and funky it may well be.

Total.Hella.Lameass.

I didn't really care for the Chris Cornell song the first time I heard it, but after watching the Casino Royale DVD a couple times, I liked the song so much I bought off iTunes, and now it's one of my favorites.

And I do like Herb Alpert, but that didn't even match the visuals. At all. It looks like it could have, if whomever-did-the-youtube woulda shifted it a bit, but ... they didn't, so it doesn't.

Roto-Rot 2007-12-14 05:19:46 PM
The Chris Cornell tune was okay (plus he's got a good voice), and it did what all good Bond themes do- it set the stage for a memorable melody that could be used throughout the movie. It helped put an identity on the film for me, for example, like the instrumental version of A View To A Kill used throughout well, A View To A Kill. I miss this kind of thing in the Bond films with weaker theme songs. When's the last time you hummed something from Moonraker?

Lurkerbunny 2007-12-14 06:17:19 PM

/A-ha's "The Living Daylights" FTW

Chris Cornell's theme sucks worse than Duran Duran's 007 theme. I can't believe how many Farkers have such homoerotic fantasies about his lousy tune.

Best Bond soundtrack ever!

However, the best individual track is "Snow Job" from AVTAK.

Awful. That's like playing "Spanish Flea" during a battle scene from 300.

No, your brain pan is fine.

Chris Cornell, on his own, is an utter tool whose
every song sounds pretty much the same.

But: combined with the excellent visuals, it was precisely
matched with the desire of the producers to show that Daniel
Craig is a very different Bond from any who came before.

When I first saw it, I was utterly mesmerized, and I hope
they keep up the vibe with RISICIO (the next film).

I'm a huge Cornell fan, seen him many times, and thought the theme song was the best track on his new record (which I don't like, especially compared to EM). Also, I thought it was perfect to open the movie with - classic Bond movie arrangement, interesting songwriting. A classic, I thought and think. Then again, I think most of the modern Bond themes are well done so I guess I'm in the minority :'< *sniff*

Absolutely this. I walked into the theater expecting to dislike Daniel Craig as Bond. The opening scenes, followed by this song and visuals, had me completely hooked, and I loved the movie. Really looking forward to seeing Craig in the next one.

Trivia time!!

The original movie also featured one of the greatest Burt Bacharach/Hal David songs ever written - The Look Of Love. This wonderful piece of music was nominated for an Academy Award (best Original Song), but lost out to that piece of shiat from Dr Doolittle "Talk To The Animals".
