rocinante721: Since when are the Blue Angels part of the RAF?

Its in a British newspaper? I think Subby needs to do a little fact checking.

Top hole. Bally Jerry pranged his kite right in the how's your father. Hairy blighter, dicky-birdied, feathered back on his Sammy, took a waspy, flipped over on his Betty Harper's and caught his can in the Bertie.

RAF....right.....

I'm surprised people didn't freak out thinking a plane was being flown into the bridge. We're a bit sensitive these days about planes looking like they're heading right toward a building/landmark.

The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds do that type of thing all the time. They weave in and out of skylines, around monuments, around mountains, etc. I mean really, the planes are painted bright blue and they only show up at air shows, so you've got to figure everybody knows that it's cool.

I think a Farker took that picture (and many more.)

Here's the greenlit link.

Here's the link to many more shots.

Shouldn't take away from this link being greened, though, IMHO.

Wouldn't it be a BAD thing to eject while under the bridge? They would have to scrape you off the bottom of the bridge with a putty knife.

/Neat pic though.

rocinante721: Since when are the Blue Angels part of the RAF?

Yet again, allow me to reiterate the iteration of the good and right rocinante721:
ITS THE BLUE ANGLES YOU IDIOT.
That is either a US Marine or a USN pilot in an American F-18, part of the internationally known flying team, The Blue Angles.
Holy Crap Subby could you possibly fail any worse?
It states it in TA!
Maybe reading isn't one of your stronger points. (Or thinking)
Brush your rotting teeth and get out of the pub long enough to sober up before posting a link!

Please note the Vote thingie.
Please use it.
Thanks.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your banter.

It's USN, not RAF. And he's flying down a path that is plenty wide between all the boats. And that altitude is not terribly dangerous for a trained fighter pilot. They do lots of things more dangerous than what is shown in TFA.

Churchill2004 [TotalFark] 2007-12-14 01:46:36 AM
1) As has been duly noted, the Blue Angels are the demonstration squadron of the United States Navy, not the British Royal Air Force. I suspect they'd rather object to the confusion.

2) The picture shows a deliberately planned stunt, not an almost-crash. The plane didn't "almost hit" anything.

OOOOo. Sorry for the typo.

Proves I was completely wrong.
Guess it was the impotent RAF after all.
Sorry, you self-righteous spelling Nazi. I promise to never make a sppelling error again.

Fleet Week in San Francisco. Happens every year. Nothing to see. Move along.

Befuddled 2007-12-14 02:58:33 AM
Back a while before 9/11, my girlfriend worked in SF in the financial district. She had a window cubicle and she would tell me about seeing the Blue Angels flying by her window during fleet week, where they'd fly close enough so you could see the pilots' faces. They used to do some pretty balsy stuff back then.

yarnothuntin 2007-12-14 03:04:34 AM
Maverick, you just did an incredibly brave thing. What you should have done was land your plane! you don't own that plane, the tax payers do! Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash. You've been busted, you lost your qualifications as section leader three times, put in hack twice by me, with a history of high speed passes over five air control towers, and one admiral's daughter!

/has anyone pointed out that's a Blue Angel F-18 and not the RAF?

Wow. You are soo cool. Never having made a mistake. Never a spelling error. Never an inversion of letters.
Never having your fingers faster than your spell-check.
You must be Jesus or Buda or something.
So do you sacrifice virgins to yourself?
Hmm, that would be like self sacrifice in your mom's basement involving mirrors and Kleenex and little tiny cuts on your arms.
Wow. You are so cool (to your self).
Do you bottle your own urine and sell it on eBay?
How can I follow you? How can I praise you.
Do you have meetings that I can attend?

Do the RAF even fly F-18s? I'd hope they at least have a flight demonstration team but I dunno..

I thought the Snowbirds were Canadian, and the Red Arrows were the RAF.

I remember when I was a wee child I was playing baseball behind the Rochester, NY JCC and there was a fighter plane that buzzed us. It probably was 100 feet above the ground. It was one of the coolest things I ever saw until I met Pam in high school.

EricSilverbear 2007-12-14 03:21:40 AM
Ah yes... Fleet Week in San Francisco... The biggest Cluster Fark for the U.S Coast Guard all year... I was Assistant Search and Rescue Coordinator for San Francisco Bay and am now just a Auxiliary Public Affairs Officer. Yup, it's our boats that the Blue Angels use to fly over and mark the center point of the flight show. Nice pictures captured, and Smitty is pretty dumb to confuse the RAF and the U.S. Navy.

AaaPha 2007-12-14 03:22:20 AM
All dicking around aside, the Red Arrows are pretty damn good too, only use the most basic little jet, the BAE Hawk, (Hawker Siddeley Hawk as was), could be wrong but last I heard the things were completely bereft of computer systems, it's all the pilots' skill. Mad stuff.

AaaPha 2007-12-14 03:22:57 AM
