Way to be soft on crime, NJ! Now you will only encourage people to murder all day long knowing the worst that can happen is that they will be Bubba's roommate for the next 60 years. Plus, now you don't get a cool headline when you accidentally execute an innocent person. Damn.

Some people are too sick, too depraved, and too unstable to ever fit into society. It's unfair to make other inmates be around them in close quarters, and it's unfair for the taxpayer to support them. Let them fry.

/Eugenics FTW

I find it hard to belive that there is a large enough pool of these people that it would be inappropriate to intern them instead in a place more suited to deal with their depravity and mental instability- the House of Representatives.

eqtworld: That is not Eugenics.

I meant get them ahead of time, and eliminate the ones that fall through the cracks that end up causing problems. Err..should have been more clear with my ranting and raving.

Killing people that don't fit in to society kind of is eugenics.

That sentence seems clunky. Shouldn't it be, "...can no longer blame the smell on electrocuted inmates."

Switchblades 2007-12-13 10:19:58 PM
In all seriousness...though we have a few people on Death Row, I think that we haven't executed anyone in quite a while. (Not sure if we've had executions in the state since 1976, but I think that if we have, it's only been one or two.)

Believe me, it doesn't make much of a change in New Jersey law. And we couldn't blame the smell on electrocuted inmates anyway - at least, not electrocuted NJ inmates.

/from New Jersey
//so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies
///the smell is really from the Texas inmates

You would simply describe a murderer as "someone who does not fit into society"?

That would not be eugenics, that is just the way human animals function in society.

Eugenics would be deciding who breeds with whom in an attempt to breed people the way we breed poodles.

"Eugenics is a social philosophy which advocates the improvement of human hereditary traits through various forms of intervention.[1] Throughout history, eugenics has been regarded by its various advocates as a social responsibility, an altruistic stance of a society, meant to create healthier and more intelligent people, to save resources, and lessen human suffering.

Earlier proposed means of achieving these goals focused on selective breeding, while modern ones focus on prenatal testing and screening, genetic counseling, birth control, in vitro fertilization, and genetic engineering. Opponents argue that eugenics is immoral and is based on, or is itself, pseudoscience[citation needed]. Historically, eugenics has been used as a justification for coercive state-sponsored discrimination and human rights violations, such as forced sterilization of persons who are claimed to have genetic defects, the killing of the institutionalized population and, in some cases, outright genocide of races perceived as inferior or undesirable."

It's from wiki but still.

The trouble with life without parole is this: decades later, the bleeding hearts say the killer is old, no longer a threat, has been rehabilitated. Murderers don't deserve to be rehabilitated. Even if they are no longer a threat, they did kill. They deserve none of the freedom they denied their victims. let them fry, or at least rot forever in a cell, no books, no TV, no visits from family, nothing at all to divert their thoughts from their imprisonment.

Last I checked, eugenics involved stopping certain people from breeding. Killing them does that, but so does life in prison.

Misch: Do you know how much money it costs to go through all the legal processes surrounding actually getting someone executed?

Incarceration for life is actually cheaper.

That's only accurate if we care more about accuracy and correctness in the one case, but not the other. Do you have good grounds for explaining why there shouldn't be similar protections -- automatic appeal, et al, in the case of 'life without parole'? After all, the theoretical "he can be released if he's alive" only matters if the effort is taken to check whether or not he should be released because somebody erred or deceived, and "life without parole", uncorrected, is just as permanent a screwing-over.

That's a horrible argument; 'compassionate' liberals put in all kinds of laws and safeguards making executions difficult to accomplish, then say 'look, it's more difficult to execute someone than to just stick them in jail!' That's bullshiat, circular argument.

So you agree that the (so-called) justice system is about revenge?

Those safeguards aren't in place to make executions difficult, as you imply, but to make them accurate.

If we have irrefutable DNA evidence or even a confession, I say put a bullet in their brain immediately. If there is any question, let them appeal.

irrefutable DNA evidence

Just being at the scene, which does not necessarily mean you are the killer, gets DNA everywhere. Do you have any idea how much junk humans throw around?

There's a perfectly good reason my semen was found in the stab wound..er..my lawyer will tell you!

That's not the same as "DNA". Make sure the difference is observed.

Hey, Retards

Number of prisoners executed in NJ since the federal moratorium was lifted in 1976.... ZERO
