rock and roll and
that hall of fame is a piss stain. Your museum. Urine in wine.

Unright 2007-12-13 03:11:19 PM
(Though there's still a list of acts a mile long that deserve to be there before either of them. Can anyone say "Heart" for starters? KISS isn't even in there. What the hell??)

Heart and KISS suck worse than Madonna. And Madonna is awful.

Heart rocks, though KISS does indeed suck ass. But either one of those bands has had a hell of a lot more influence on rock and roll than the 80s version of Britney Spears and deserves induction a hell of a lot more than she does.

At least the Ventures finally got some respect. About damn time too.

Britney will be inducted next year (posthumously)

The R&RHoF has always been a popularity contest. Nobody is inducted because of greatness. It's all about album sales, and what names will draw the biggest amount of publicity.

It's a crock of schyt!

No love for Chicago? Granted now they are crappy old men just playing to make their mortgage payments. Back then, in the late 60s and early 70s, all they did was create and perfect a new sound. When I see the "acts" that are placed in the HOF and neither Chicago nor any number of well-deserved groups are, well, a piss stain is what it is.

I dunno man, they were a little TOO produced for my taste.

But excellent musicians/singers for sure. Terry Kath totally tore it up.

Still no love for these guys. In the top 10 (don't remember precisely where) for most consecutive gold albums.

It becomes very clear which is "Dog" and which is "Butterfly".
/Madonna has not, and never will rock.

I bet this "hall of fame" is scared for the day when they run out of inductees and they realize what a joke they are.

How many bands starting between 1995 and now could qualify for the hall of fame? There's only one or two maybes I can think of.

Darth_Lukecash [TotalFark] 2007-12-13 07:35:18 PM
Madonna most absolutely DESERVES to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She was probabbly the most influencial singer of the 1980 and 1990' She has a recognisable style while re-inventing herself. Without thinking, the average person can name a bunch of Maddona songs.

They won't be able to name any damn RUSH songs...who has been about as influencial as a wet napkin at the Chicago Fire.

The problem with Rush is, well, they're Rush. That said, yeah Madonna doesn't need to be in there-----RRHOF needs to take a hiatus if this is the best they can do

Uzzah 2007-12-13 07:57:40 PM
If you're willing to define "rock and roll" as "popular music," sure, Madonna belongs. She's largely responsible for putting dance/club music back on the airwaves after the disco debacle. For a decade or so, you couldn't swing a cat without hitting a woman rock musician whose fashion choices weren't influenced by Madonna. She was one of the first big musicians to make the jump to movies (mostly unsuccessfully, of course) since Elvis. She played a big role in integrating openly gay culture (and its trappings) into the music, and ultimately, the social scene. And she sold a metric assload of albums.

Now, if you're not willing to define "rock and roll" as broadly as that, then yeah, it's a travesty. But you might as well biatch about Leonard Cohen, too. When was the last time he busted out a rocking, 4/4, guitar-bass-drums, three-chord version of "Suzanne?"

Thanks. I thought that was where they were, but I wasn't positive. That alone should get them in. The massive talent is just a bonus.

Because when I think "rock and roll", I think Madonna.

When I think Rock and Roll, I definitely NEVER EVER think about the Stooges. I want a ticket, just so I can shout "Iggy!" during every lame song.

As much as I love Leonard Cohen (that would be "a lot"), I really don't get him going into the alleged "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame.

I'm no fan of Rush, but Geddy Lee alone has more talent and artistic credability in his left testicle than Madonna has in her entire body.

They're just setting the stage for the all-prog induction year of 2009 - when it'll be Yes, King Crimson, Rush, Jethro Tull and Genesis all getting in at the same time.

"Alice Cooper!!!!"

Seconded. It's a travesty that someone with multiple top 40 hits, a genre-creating style, mass media visibility (movies, TV, radio, books) and a career that spans several decades is not in the "Rock" hall but Madonna and Grandmaster Flash are.

I've danced as hard (and as vulgarly) to Madonna's music as I ever danced at any stadium show, mosh pit, or acid trip. And isn't vulgar dancing what rock n' roll is all about?

Hey man, was that a dig at the Grandmaster Flash! I hope you just said his name because Rap and Rock and Roll are entirely two different things, and not because you disrespect him as an artist. Don't say Madonna and Flash are equally shiatty, I mean GMF was freakin sick as hell back in the day. He's waaay better than 50 Cent, Soulja Boy and all those other Hip POP artists around today. Don't push me man, cause I'm close to the edge.

/Who the hell is gonna be inducted when they get to our shiatty current generation of music, i REALLY hope Linkin Park and anyone of those Pussy ass emo/indie bands won't get the nod.

I just started the Rush Hall of Fame.

We had the induction ceremony just now. It was Awesome. Rush was inducted.

Alex and I did a a kind of jazz-improv spill on "Broon's Bane" next to the bar table at the after-party.

/Bigger Rush fan than you

TheJoe03 "Hey man, was that a dig at the Grandmaster Flash! I hope you just said his name because Rap and Rock and Roll are entirely two different things, and not because you disrespect him as an artist."

Wasn't trying to disrespect either Grandmaster Flash or Madonna because both deserve a place in a "pop music" hall of fame. Just pointing out that the "Rock" hall is overlooking influential Rock artists in favor of performers who don't even work in the genre the hall is supposed to be spotlighting.

So that's why they picked Leonard Cohen?

And the Dave Clark Five: yeah, they're all over the papers these days.

There's also vomiting. Mustn't forget that.
