And they say the 80's sucked.
Any decade that could produce Macaroni is now the worst evar.

Tyrone Bibbins Esquire 2007-12-13 01:59:01 PM
Huh, I went to school in England in 1991 and that "I'm Too Sexy" song had already run its course...guess they meant that it was released in the US in 1992.

/I got to relive the whole thing again when I got home, that so sucked!
//same for the macarena...I was in central america when that hit the world and had to relive it when I returned to the states..argh!

Tom_Slick [TotalFark] 2007-12-13 02:14:09 PM
And a hi-hat with a souped up tempo
I'm on a roll and it's time to go solo

/I can't say I don't like that song.

I liked Marcy Playground. The whole CD they had was good. I think they had more than one, too, but I can't be bothered to google for that info right now.

The song creeped me out the 1st time I heard it and I couldn't figure out why. Now it creeps me out that I couldn't figure out why back then.

FTFA: "The '90s made the '80s look like the '60s," said Alex Blagg, Bestweekever.tv managing editor.

Alex Blagg, I'd like you to meet "Flashback," the 1990 Dennis Hopper-Keifer Sutherland film:

Huey Walker: "The '90s are going to make the '60s look like the '50s."

I'm sure you two will have a lot to talk about.

Blind Melon "No Rain"

I couldn't stand Sex and Candy.
Worst. Song. Ever.
Informer was catchy, but overplayed.
Kris Kross was famous for being kids and wearing clothes backwards. Dumb.

These are some of the reasons they were flash in the pan one hit wonders.

Speaking of one hit wonders, lets not forget Toora Loora Toora Loo-Rye-Aye.

"The Bad Touch" wasn't from the 90's.

I'm soooo down w/ Kris Kross and Snow, and Tag Team deserves to be lost in obscurity, 95 South was way better-their song "Whoot! There it is" even has an old man saying the Farktastic line "Hey! Hey!, you damn kids! Stay off my lawn!!"

/thanks subby, good times, good times

Whatthefark 2007-12-13 04:06:26 PM
Oops. I should have read the headline better. Come on Eileen was from the early 80s.

My bad.

I dunno if they're still a one-hit wonder, but Time by Blind Melon is also a damn good song.

Blind Melon also ran "Galaxie" on MTV for a while. "Change" is a badass song. They are no one-hit wonder.

And techinically neither is Kriss Kross. They had "Jump", "Warm It Up", and "I Missed The Bus".

The true on hit wonder would be Crash Test Dummies for "Mmmmmm Mmmmmm". Throw in Spin Doctors for Two Princes even they had that annoying "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong".

skybreaker 2007-12-13 04:16:03 PM
no harvey danger?

i bought their cd out of a dollar bin last year with ironic intentions, and it ended up being really good.

this
what do they define technically a one hit wonder? Kris Kross went 4x platinum the first album and although not as successful the second album still went platinum. Even their very last album released in 96 went gold.

That list was wiggity wiggity wack y'all...damn, now Im late for the bus...

Got a Girl by Tripping Daisey?...okay, it wasnt one of the best of the 90s, but with all the songs being dance or club types, why Marcy Playground instead of a handful of other rock genre candidates? I love Marcy Playground, the whole entire album with that song. The song Another Suicide (I think is what its called), is about my hometown, depressing but nice to be mentioned. But thats not my point, I'd like to see an alternative list, Marcy Playground just didnt seem to fit in this one.

/I know, I am the obligatory list biatcher. sorry, but someones got to do it.

"Piranha" was also a hit from Tripping Daisy, and "Waited a Light Year" from Jesus Hits Like the Atom Bomb might have charted too. Not to be That Guy, but "I Got a Girl" was far and away the worst song on that album.

I dont know, the semi-recient tune "Do you realise" was pretty popular,
I dont know if it achieved "hit" status or not...

What was that groups that did "One dance left, you got the music in you"
New Radicals, or young republicans, or something...

You know what's really good is their second album Little by Little

Great songs, singing, kinda Beach Boys in places...

Click on the link to download it. It's free, and sanctioned by the band...:)

I don't know either, but that's why I qualified it with "in the 90s." I know they didn't have any hits between Hit to Death in the Future Head and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

lazario 2007-12-13 05:01:23 PM
yeah, Bloodhound couldnt be considered 1 hit wonder.

lazario 2007-12-13 05:08:01 PM
torc Yeah, I forgot about Piranha, but still I think anyone who never bought any of their albums will remember them for Got a Girl, even though its not a good representation of them.

I was also thinking, what about Spacehog or the Toadies.

I think a lot of one hit wonders had one more song that people kinda liked but it never went anywhere.

I think we should come up with a list of bands we wish were only one hit wonders.

Hell yeah, that whole album kicked ass with the exception of that song. Great tunes.

Same thing here with Blind Melon. That No Rain song was the most horrid peice of trash on the whole track list. You can really, really tell that was the radio song to draw people in for the rest of the album. Kind of a mixed bag. You have all these people buying it when the rest of the songs don't sound too much like their big hit. Got mine from a buddy who listened to it and hated it for that reason. I called him a douche and gave him five bucks for it. Still rock it out farely regularly.

Don't get me started.

I bought Lou Bega's album when it came out.

I'm still ashamed of what I have done.

FeedTheCollapse 2007-12-13 07:10:52 PM
wow, it's pretty sad when that Marcy's Playground song is the only halfway decent one on the list. It's not a bad song, but it was annoying that it was constantly played.

I nominate Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You". I can't really imagine them as anything as anything but one hit wonders, but I'm surprised "Bells Ring" and "She's my baby" weren't at least minor hits.

Speaking of which, does the Jesus and Mary Chain count as one hit wonders (Stateside, at least)? I remember hearing "Sometimes Always" (maybe Mazzy Star are 1.5-hit-wonders) on the radio quite a bit, but only "Come On" once. As near as I can tell, nothing else has gotten them that much attention over here.

whidbey [TotalFark] 2007-12-13 07:16:54 PM
FeedTheCollapse: I nominate Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You

Good call. Possibly the greatest song of the 90s.

Oh, and stupidly absent on the list is The La's "There She Goes" possibly the other greatest song of the 90s...;)
