"Usually people are only lucky enough to be given one truly great talent. Shaq was blessed with two. In fact, he's even better at music than basketball. The songs on The Best Of Shaq move me - some to the point of tears. This Best Of will hold a special place on my cd shelf - right next to The Best Of David Hasselhoff. My only wish now is that Shaq's next album will be one where he just does love songs. It could be called "Love Shaq."

Geez, the album titles only got better and better.

Personal favorite - Bruce Willis: The Master Series.

Most Awesome Amazon.com User Review:

"If you decide to buy this CD, wait patiently by the mail box till it arrives. Upon arrival, quickly open the box, then pull the security tape from the jewel case. Open the jewel case and place the CD in one hand. Break the CD in half, then slit your wrists with the remaining shards. As you begin to die look at your reflection in the mirror-like surface of the broken CD, and ask your self what you were thinking when you ordered this CD!"

How many farkers work over at Cracked, do you think?

Shaq-Fu was amazing. The sega genesis game even came with a sample CD so you could listen to the awesomeness while playing the game.

better question, is there anyone at Cracked that isn't a Farker?

That list did not lie.

And I've come across that best of Color Me Badd. Was at quite possibly the lamest party ever thrown and some dork who lived at the house it was held at decided to pump things up by putting that in the CD player with no irony intended. I protested loudly, and was thereafter regarded as an asshole. No one could figure out why I'd object so vehemently to it. As I said, quite possibly the lamest party ever.

JerkyMeat 2007-12-11 03:37:06 AM
That was a shiat list. Literally, a list of shiat.
Impressed.

for once a list that I actually agree with... wow..

I'm in the library at the moment and I literally have to minimize the window to make sure I don't burst out laughing like a madman.

I'm very punchy at the moment, pulled a farking all-nighter...

THIS made me lose it:

The Best of Nelson: The Millennium Collection

SkaGoblin 2007-12-11 09:03:00 AM
List incomplete without:

ecx.images-amazon.com

No, it's not a single....

GibbyTheMole 2007-12-11 09:17:11 AM
Wow... I actually agree with every single thing on that list. That is a first. I fear the universe may implode upon itself now.

bungle_jr 2007-12-11 09:20:49 AM
do the record companies (who are the ones that release this crap, nothing to do with the "artist" usually) actually make any money off this crap? i mean, c'mon, NONE of the people on this list had more than 2 hits ever! are there enough people out there wasting their money on these to justify making them?

i thought it was bad when CREED's greatest hits was released...but hell at least they had 3 albums and like 10 actual radio hits.

echocamp 2007-12-11 09:29:41 AM
While that was a perfectly cromulent list; I'm at a crossroads because it did not include Hilary Duff's Greatest Hits. But, if it did include Hilary Duff, which one would get the boot?

FeedTheCollapse 2007-12-11 09:39:06 AM
I remember a Wilson Philips Greatest Hits album. I know they more than one hit, yet I can't even remember the title of their biggest one.

lizida 2007-12-11 09:40:58 AM
That's cold as "Ice Ice Baby".

Broken Logic [TotalFark] 2007-12-11 09:42:33 AM
I like this list. I like the fact that such CD's exist. It makes everything so much more surreal without the help of self-prescribed medication. It's one of those things that makes even the crappiest day a little better knowing that somewhere, there's a Kriss Kross, Gerardo, Winger or Another Bad Creation greatist hits CD. Kinda like living in an alternate reality.

A comment, at least about Nelson and Vanilla Ice.
The reason that record companies does this is mainly about licensing fees. It's cheaper for them to make a new best of, even for people with only one or two albums, then it is reprint their albums or even a previously made best of album.

My old Roomie got the Faith No More Greatest hits. When he got home and told me about it, I cracked up and asked if it was a single.
He shot me a look, then looked sheepishly down and declared it was a 2 CD collection.

That was the point I lost it. I still chuckle to this day.

Hold On.
If I ran a call center, I'd have it loop over and over as the hold music.

Nelson deserves a lot more credit, there's a lot of talent there that people just don't get.
Same goes for Andrew Ridgely.

Faux Shizzle 2007-12-11 02:05:34 PM
Simple rule of thumb:

If the album contains less than 10 tracks, and one of them is an extended remix of the one hit, then it was probably unnecessary.

If they did, it'd be roughly 23 cds long.

MiamiBlues 2007-12-11 02:38:31 PM
Would not the greatest hits of the Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Nirvana, etc. be the most unnecessary? As in, why get the greatest hits when what you want are all the albums, or at least a good many of them?

WTF? Faith No More are huge. I'm not personally that big a fan, but can name several songs of theirs you still hear around the place - Last Cup, Epic, We Care A Lot, Digging the Grave, Easy (cover), Falling to Pieces, Ashes to Ashes...

Sometimes you get these lame g/h albums that are like this, unnecessarily so - I once saw a Talking Heads g/h that was about 10 or 11 songs, and included "Lifetime Piling Up". Why would you bother, when there are all-quality 2CD sets out there?

To make money after the fact of a band's worthless career, the following albums are usually released (in no particular order):

The Best of
Greatest Hits
The Very Best of
A Singles Collection
10 Golden Hits
(The title of their only hit song goes here): Greatest Hits
Only The Hits
Greatest Hits: The Love Songs
Greatest Hits Live
Greatest Hits with Special Guests Live
Greatest Hits: Remastered

Why buy a greatest hits album for only one song or, in the case of the top of the list, none of them?

Given that the sole redeeming quality of most of these albums could be had for a dollar or less on iTunes, I'd say the list is more unnecessary.

"On a slightly unrelated side bar, Wikipedia notes the following about the band's fourth album, Now & Forever, "sales were well below those expected from the group, with initial sales of only 32 units in the U.S." There are no sources cited, and that could be a typo, but until proven otherwise we're just going to accept that as the saddest damn thing we've ever read. "

They were a magazine to begin with? Never seen it before. Discovered the website a few months back, and spent a whole weekend reading endless top ten lists and pissing myself laughing.
