50? Really? You had to go all they way to 50?

My Liver Hurts 2007-12-09 11:10:37 PM
*checks list*

Nope. Didn't but a single one of them.

All is well with the world.

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2007-12-09 11:23:01 PM
Which year?

/Not clicking on link, lest it's one of those "one item per page" abominations. Will come back to see if anyone posts the whole list.

SnarfVader 2007-12-09 11:26:34 PM
I saw a few on there I recognized, two I had bought, but he lost me at #50. Gah!

Aar1012 [TotalFark] 2007-12-09 11:29:02 PM
Too bad the only album I bought this year wasn't on there. It was really good.

What's an album?

IronTom [TotalFark] 2007-12-09 11:50:20 PM
I got the White Stripes one. The others? Not so much.

NYMoogle 2007-12-09 11:53:39 PM
Sad to see he ranked Britney Spears lastest excretion higher than Beirut's Flying Club Cup.

SnarfVader 2007-12-09 11:56:04 PM
IronTom: I got the White Stripes one. The others? Not so much.

Yeah, that's one of the ones I got. Loved the lyrics on the title song and the gritty riffs made it a must have for me.

Also downloaded Radiohead, but I was much less impressed than this guy. Still tossed a couple of bucks their way just to show that I liked the way the distributed the album.

But that overproduced crap they have listed at 50? Please.

Kublai Khan [TotalFark] 2007-12-10 12:01:20 AM
I got the Arcade Fire one, that's it.

Never mind #50, what about #24?

oldebayer [TotalFark] 2007-12-10 12:52:31 AM
You know you are getting old when you have only heard of eleven of these artists, and one of them was Britney Spears.

/Officially a geezer.

Secret Agent X23 2007-12-10 01:27:14 AM
IronTom: I got the White Stripes one. The others? Not so much.

Yeah, I got the White Stripes one. Also the Plant and Krauss. I would highly recommend both. I'm always interested in Neil Young, too, but I haven't heard this new one.

Unright 2007-12-10 01:40:46 AM
Britney Spears made the top 50, but Modest Mouse didn't. That's a fail.

/I do enjoy the Grinderman album, but I don't expect to see it on many lists.

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2007-12-10 02:01:29 AM
Who the fark were most of those people?

Oh and FAIL for no "Snakes and Arrows."

ukiah 2007-12-10 02:56:45 AM
Well, I only have the Fallout Boy one. I like how the author gets lazier with the reviews. For number one its like a page long, then by #49 its "good."

MetalGator 2007-12-10 03:06:38 AM
They lost all credibility putting Fall Out Boy on the list. Quick scan also reveals no NIN - Year Zero, so that list is massive fail.

danduran 2007-12-10 03:06:50 AM
Not a bad list, to be honest. If you come in here and say the list sucks because you've not heard of 40 of the bands, then you're not really qualified to comment on said list, are you?

My top five would probably be Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, The Good the Bad and the Queen, Ryan Adams and a local band called Battle Circus.

The White Stripes album had shiat production mastering and, and the Battles and MIA albums are way overrated.

Listening to the Grinderman album right now, just finished with We were dead...

I've barely gotten any new music in a few years, so I got 8 albums in the last two weeks... Only other one I have on the list is Radiohead. Can't think of much else to put on the list from this year though, not that I've really been paying attention.

FuriousGeorge945 2007-12-10 03:38:59 AM
That list is completely invalidated by the lack of Spoon.

/I would also include aesop rock in there, but I know not everyone else liked that one as much as I did

I'm shocked that I own four of those albums. Here are my laughable picks for the best albums of 2007:

Who the fark are these artists? I've heard of about 5 of them, does that make me less cool or more cool because my favorite bands don't make some crappy list that no one cares about.

Canadian Canuck [TotalFark] 2007-12-10 04:19:32 AM
I bought The White Stripes and Bruce Springsteen albums. Both are very good.

Wasted Pixels 2007-12-10 04:21:59 AM
In related news, there wasn't a single jazz, country, swing, symphonic, metal, ska, folk, dance, funk, prog, or goth album released this year that was worth listening to.

Let alone anything good that wasn't in English.

I'm going to fire up Rhapsody and listen to those albums DontSpitOnMyMind and quizkid827 suggested. At least the ones with album art I like.

Wasted Pixels 2007-12-10 04:32:17 AM
I'd also add that if you haven't heard of at least 10 of these artists, you're probably not entitled to an opinion on modern music. If you've heard of more than 35, you're probably not showering as often as you should be.

/Neil Young, Robert Plant, PJ Harvey, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Alison Krauss, Bjork, Kanye West, The White Stripes, and Britney Spears are all household names.

I knew once I got to #7 that I need not read on. There are only 6 albums of 2007 worth investigating, apparently.

I can never figure out why people feel the need to brag about that. Proclaiming your ignorance isn't usually something people volunteer to do, especially on FARK, but when it comes to music there's always a handful of cretins coming into a thread saying how such and such must suck because they've never heard of it, or accusing the people who have of being pretentious hipsters, never mind we're not exactly talking about obscure acts here. If I, increasingly un-hip at 35, can own a 5th of that list, there's really no excuse for anyone not to be familiar with half of it or more. Whether you like it at that point or not is your business, but at least you'll be qualified to speak on it.

bromidestain 2007-12-10 05:45:59 AM
I don't know what they're talking about. Stuck Between Stations is the first song on The Hold Steady's album from last year, Boys and Girls in America.

If it's not Rush or Dream Theatre, though, there's a good chance no one here's heard it.

No Evile, Sanctity, or Dream Theater.

bromidestain: I don't know what they're talking about. Stuck Between Stations is the first song on The Hold Steady's album from last year, Boys and Girls in America.

It just came out in the UK this year (March, I think).

Also, the 7" "single" version of Stuck Between Stations was basically an EP. I'm sure they meant Boys and Girls, and shame on their editor for not catching that, but it isn't the biggest mistake in the world.

Don't honestly care how much of the list I know or don't know, but to leave off Modest Mouse or Fiest for Britney is just wrong.

Speaking of geezers, when did Crowded House put out a new album? Guess I need to check that one out.

I find it funny that in a matter of 10 posts fark comes up with a couple of much better bands than that list. I won't put up a list since I feel that albums need a year or two to fully sink in, but I will add Symphony X - Paradise Lost anyway.

deevo 2007-12-10 08:33:36 AM
How the hell does Because of the Times get #3? Farking awful album, terribly disappointing. I know the English have a hard-on for Kings Of Leon for whatever reasons, but it sucked, OK?

no apparat or cinematic orchestra bleh. I do like battles new album, saw them live back in 04 with tvotr and pinback and I have to say that drummer impressed me more than any of them. Hell, even though its not the best release of thiers i'd take type o's latest over #50. Bleurgh!

swaxhog 2007-12-10 09:48:25 AM
I have the Radiohead, Neil Young, Springsteen, White Stripes, Robert Plant, and Ry Cooder ones. I've never even heard of 80% of that list. I'm officially old, my tastes are irrelevant, and I don't give a damn.

FeedTheCollapse 2007-12-10 09:52:54 AM
In Rainbows was the only one I'd really rank as one of the best of the year. Kid A and Amnesiac, as good as they are, sound like Radiohead farking around in the studio by comparison. In Rainbows seems to take the experimentation and put it into proper song form.

I'd also add:

- NIN: Year Zero
- Boris: Rainbow
- David Torn: Prezens
- Low: Drums and Guns

those are all I can think up off-hand, but there's a whole slew of other releases that I liked. 2007 actually had lots of good stuff.
