I hope its not the one in Modesto, CA after all I'm a minister there...

don't know who mike jones is, but this looks scary/tragic.

drumgods 2007-12-09 03:52:24 PM
This is the same church that Ted Haggard was at in Colorado Springs.

Mike Jones is the prostitute he slept with.

This could be a conundrum for the pro-gun evangelicals.

SkorzenyNinja 2007-12-09 03:57:33 PM
This is bad. There was a shooting earlier here in Arvada at another church. Something is going down here.

Gun*men*? More than one?

Original reports I read were just one...

This isn't looking good.

I have several friends that are involved in that church, or were a few years ago. I hope they're all okay.

I'm a closeted preacher who likes it when men with big guns open fire on my unprotected sanctuary, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

jafiwam 2007-12-09 04:03:00 PM
I predict:

Rumors will fly this was some atheist, shortly followed by a flamewar.

Then corrected a few hours later revealing it's about the usual church stuff; sex-scandal, embezzlement, power struggles, three different sects, and a whole lot of people that actually deserve to be shot.

Hasn't there been enough shootings for one week?

Ok, I laughed at that one.

CNN is now saying there's TWO shootings in two different locations.

I don't understand how people can be unhappy to die if they believe they're going to utopia after death.

You know, I've never heard of any atheists/agnostics going on a bloodthirsty gun-toting rampage. Odd, that.

Yesdog [TotalFark] 2007-12-09 04:07:13 PM
This violence is horrible -- no matter your position on religion, we should all agree that we should feel safe at our chosen places of worship.

HeWhoHasNoName: CNN is now saying there's TWO shootings in two different locations.

Yup. There was an earlier shooting at 12:30 in a church missionary building in Arvada. They weren't able to capture the gunman, so there is quite possibly a connection between both of the shootings.

No, they prefer to industrialize the process.

Okay so that WAS another church...? I was wondering. Damn.

Last I heard they didn't catch the guy that did that one, so I too wonder if it's some guy on a crazy murderous mission...

7of7: I don't understand how people can be unhappy to die if they believe they're going to utopia after death.

For one thing, death is generally not a comfortable process, especially when it involves gunshot wounds. One can also feel sadness for the family members who now will spend the rest of their lives missing the one(s) gone before.

captainorbaggio 2007-12-09 04:14:54 PM
That really sucks- I hope they're able to catch the guy.

I'm not sure if it was exactly a church, I think it was more of a missionary training area. Either way, it was another Christian facility. And yeah, they didn't catch the gunman.

Arvada = Western suburb of Denver
Colo Spgs = Well, it's Colo Spgs

Arvada down to there with the snow on the ground....about two hours.

I thought this doesn't happen in CHL states?

Lots of internet tough guys when they aren't in the situation. Then if it happens to them, their pants all get soiled and they cry hysterically and are paralyzed by fear...

Or they're the first ones shot dead because they don't know how to think on their feet...

Or they run away...

Dil Doe 2007-12-09 04:18:01 PM
If only the Supreme Court hadn't outlawed prayer in church, this never would have happened. Please people, it's time for church to once again be a place where people can express their religious beliefs openly.

Unfortunately, many people depend on others for protection.

Running away is usually a good idea. Especially if you're outgunned.

"You know, I've never heard of any atheists/agnostics going on a bloodthirsty gun-toting rampage. Odd, that."

Well, here are a few names for you:

Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Tse Tung

As proponents of Communism, they are all "atheists/agnostics." But maybe you don't consider it a "bloodthirsty gun-toting rampage," when a government official orders mass murder.

After all, as Stalin said, "one death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic."

Cantp 2007-12-09 04:19:25 PM
I feel bad because my first thought when I saw "Church Shooting" was I hope its the Westboro Baptist Church. No one deserves to be gunned down though.

/No one deserves it, but there are some that are understandable.
