Oh, thank god.

Sad. Or good. You know, because he's been sucking quite a bit lately.

Is it just me or has this been an odd year in the NFL with all of the injuries as well as the musical chairs with the QBs.

I figured this would be an amusing place to tell this story;

A long time ago, sophomore year of high school, and after Super Bowl XXXV, I attended a football camp at William & Mary. Among the pros who attended were Champ Bailey (who smoked my ass, given the fastest 40 I would ever run would be 4.45), Warren Sapp (he's 5'9.5", seriously), and Steve McNair.

When McNair was there, we had a Q&A with him, and all the campers of all age groups, including grade schoolers, were there. One of the middle schoolers who apparently had brass balls, asked him, "So, what was it like to lose the Super Bowl by one yard?"

McNair: /laughs, hint of pain in his eyes (this was the summer right after the Super Bowl) "It sucked, kid!"

On another amusing note from the camp, before Warren Sapp came to speak, we were sitting in an auditorium watching highlights from the Buccaneers season, finishing off the beat down in the playoffs just before he walked in, which he had a laugh about, "You were just watching that?!" and pretended to attack the camp director.

Q: What's the difference between The Ravens and a dollar bill?

A: You can get 4 quarters out of a dollar.

Ba-da-dum!

Sad to see, but he has been awful recently. I will always admire the guy's toughness however. Billick is correct, he is nothing but a class act.

This isn't sad.. this is a good thing. They have to revamp their offense and if it were up to me McNair would be the first gone.

Air McNair ended his career a lot more nobly than 'pout on the bench' Damon Huard.

I remember seeing Air last year at Arrowhead grind out a win on guts alone. It was clear he only had his veteran head and leadership skills, his skills weren't there anymore.

I always give credit to class players who beat the Chiefs in their own house. Air McNair was one of those.

Dream about another old, african american quarter back who used to be mobile but has clearly declining skills? Sure!

McNair is a stud - hopefully he'll find a good way to semi-retire; a little golf, some fishing, and perhaps a coaching or commentator gig that can keep him bringing in some nice dollars.

Good to see Dilfer starting for the Niners...wish he was still here, we sure could use him now. McNair's time has surely come and gone; he was the primary (but not only) cause of the playoff loss last year, as well as the team not getting there this year.
Anyone know why there has been no mention of giving Troy Smith a shot? I haven't heard Billick even reference his name. Why do we have a Heisman winner on the bench, getting zero consideration for a shot at the job? What's the worse he could do; turn the ball over? Heaven forbid!

Midgets don't normally excel as NFL quarterbacks.

Let's put Boller on the pine and see what Troy Smith can do.

Shouldn't there be an OBVIOUS tag on this one?

Isn't he the same size as Joe Montana?

It needed to be done. As a Ravens fan, it's been painful watching his descent from mediocre to hopeless. It's time to step down.

Boller is underrated, and will be a huge improvement over McNair. No one is going to do much behind that patchwork offensive line though, and it's only a matter of time before Boller is banged up and Troy Smith gets a few snaps. By all accounts he did well in training camp and pre-season, and his mobility would be a big plus as he tried repeatedly to avoid being sacked...

This is sad. For a fleeting moment, the Ravens had an offense to go with their defense. Unfortunately, that fleeting moment was last year. They've looked pretty bad this year. That's a sad end for McNair.

Montana is 6'2. Smith is 6'1.

Close enough.

It's pretty dramatic how far and fast McNair has fallen. He was the savior last year and now it seems all skill he had is gone.

Boller is clearly a better play right now, but like everyone in Bmore, I'm not sure he's the answer long term. I think we're in trouble until we get rid of Billick the Genius and his brain dead offense.

As much as I dislike the Ravens, I wouldn't mind seeing how Troy Smith can handle the NFL. He seemed to do alright in the preseason.

I've always admired Steve McNair. He is a tough, tough QB. All those years of playing through injuries have probably ended his career early.

Air McNair may be permanently grounded in Baltimore

Now they know what Titans fans had to suffer through. The annual season ending Steve McNair injury. And, apparently now career ending.

Running QBs have a death wish in the NFL. I cringe every time Vince Young takes off running.
