Great minds & stuff.
After services, they can serve Dalek cake (new window)
There are better versions out there, but this one is pretty easy.

Whenever I think of Dr Who & religion, I think of the miniseries of "The Life & Loves of a She-Devil" in which Tom Baker plays a very naughty Catholic priest.
If you have only seen the Roseanne Barr/Meryl Streep adaptation trainwreck, you are missing something sublime.

Damn, damn, damn... there's a British film with Alfred Molina, Christopher Walken and Brenda Blethyn about competing funeral homes. Christopher Walken was the over-the-top funeral home owner, and Alfred Molina, the more traditional type. This Doctor Who service ranks right up there with some of the totally irreverant, over-the-top funerals that he planned.

I've been scouring IMDB under all three names and cannot find the name of the film!!!

AuntofDogface [TotalFark] 2007-09-13 04:57:38 PM
Yay!!! Finally found it!!!! The movie is called "Undertaking Betty". Some of the theme funerals Walken does are beyond hysterical. I recommend the film, if for no other reason, the theme funerals.

The thought of DW themed churches amuses the hell out of me. Considering what he did to Xoanon, Fenric (who can be considered an elder god), The gods of Ragnarok, Sutekh, The Beast, not to mention the whole biblical reference of the angel with four faces ....oh the fun. The utter fun.

/Fundies would avoid it like the plague. Come on, the first farkin' ep AKA 100,000 BC. Kinda screws up that biblical timeline...

Heh. Here's the comic that goes before the one above (too big to post in thread, apparently, pops).

Oh, and as I felt compelled to say in the aforementioned redlit thread in reference to the comic above -- "the Scarlioni" should be "the Jagaroth". It's a reference to City of Death, where Skaroth (Last of the Jagaroth) poses as Count Scarlioni.

This isn't bad. It only gets horrid when they use stuff like this to attempt to trick non-Christians into believing their faith. "Want to come to this 'Hard-Core' concert? Yeah, they set themselves afire for this man named J!"

Umph. Annoying, the previous thread on this got redlit, and I posted something semi-insightful about The Hero With a Thousand Faces and how Jesus and The Doctor belong to the same narrative tradition, resurrection/regeneration, blah blah blah, etc. Can't be bothered now, it's too early. But you get the idea.

Season 1 was, um. I mean, it was entertaining, but I had serious issues. Maybe if it was just campy silliness that wasn't tied to the excellence that's Doctor Who it wouldn't have been so bad. But I fail to see the need for lashings of "adult" language and needless shagging. Making the Who-universe all controversial was unnecessary. The we have the stolen plots, the annoying characters and emo Ianto. What does he even do anyway? Umph.

I hope they have a serious rethink for the new season. No idea when it's out though, should be any week now.

In the 70s when I was a Trek fan in school I remember being asked by Southern Baptists if "Star Trek" was my religion.

The religious all seem to be to varying degrees quite stupid monkeys.

Of course if you are a religious monkey and are offended my opinion, then forgive me.

And remember that I will burn in Hell in eternal torment forever and ever and ever while you, the faithful will live in Heaven with streets paved of gold or all the virgins you can deflower depending on which religious monkey you are.

And remember, the in Heaven the streets may be paved with gold, but they fill your teeth with asphalt.

Yeah, dunno about anywhere else in Europe, but the Christians here are made of sterner stuff. Hence, despite my atheism, I have more respect for them.

So has Tennant officially signed on for another season (in 2009 or whatever), or is that still in the air?

There's a year off in '09, with three specials. It's possible that's because Tennant's doing Hamlet and they want to keep him. Just surmise and rumour though.

Indeed. I actually had some very interesting conversations with the son of a priest a few weeks back. We disagreed on basically everything, but he could accept my atheism without flinching, and I felt no particular need to insult his religion in any way. Respect all around.

Yeah, exactly. Yanks + Religion = Ill informed shouting. It's terribly annoying.

Except for my mother, who I caught trying to quietly indoctrinate my two kids with Jesus nonsense behind my back. Oh, there was shouting that day. First time I've banninated anyone from my house.
