You know that Tour de France bike that was transformed into a taco upon contact with a dog?

I have that in mind.

CornFedIowan 2007-08-19 03:40:46 PM
Cherys and Tatas?

I'm sensing a pattern of female euphemisms here.

KerryKlu 2007-08-19 03:41:31 PM
From what I've read, the Tatas won't be very bodacious.

TheCid 2007-08-19 03:42:11 PM
You know, plastic doesn't necessarily mean "cheap crap."

Of course, the price tag on this car does.

FTA:
THE NARROW, pot-holed roads of this boomtown on India's southwestern coast are a sea of humanity on wheels. Here, as in most of India, right of way is accorded by a vehicle's size - motorcycles stop for cars, cars stop for trucks, trucks stop for buses, and buses stop for cows.

I lol'd.

In reality, a cheap-ass plastic car in India with only 30 horsepower is a step up for most of the people there.

No thanks, I don't like plastic tatas.

If you put curry in the tank, it runs like fire. Just like me.

wydok 2007-08-19 03:45:59 PM
He already have one of those. Kia makes them. Oh, and the Chevy Cavalier.

Dwedit 2007-08-19 03:46:01 PM
I was looking at the price...Damn, it would take Link forever to accumulate that kind of money.

SpacePunk 2007-08-19 03:46:54 PM
So, it would sell for what? 15,000 dollars in the United States?

CravenMorehead 2007-08-19 03:47:30 PM
So, China's Chery is pretty easy to bust?

198x, Pontiac, Fiero.

I don't care for plastic Tatas myself.

I know. Even with all the upgrades, he can't carry any more than 999. He'll have to make at least three installment payments.

So which country is going to get Hoo-Hah Motors to move there?

Ghastly [TotalFark] 2007-08-19 03:55:00 PM
This will be a hell of a lot safer than seeing a family of six crammed onto a little 2 stroke scooter which is an all too common site in India. BTW, NEVER drive in India. NEVER. If you visit India hire a driver. If you try to drive in India the way you drive in North America you will be dead before you go a block. You would not believe how seriously insane the traffic is there. Sky diving has nothing on the adrenaline rush you get booting 100kph down some chewed up road in an Embassador that hasn't changed design since the 1950s and has no damn seatbelts. Less than six inches between you and sudden messy death on all sides. Nothing like an Indian highway to make you feel alive.

This is hardly surprising, Tata is the same company that designed a car that is powered via compressed air.

If I want to ride/drive a death trap I'll go for they 2 wheeled kind. A Donorcycle is much more fun than an econobox car.

Fark Master Flex 2007-08-19 03:59:55 PM
It sounds like the perfect idea for India. It's safe enough for a country where there is zero risk of being hit by a soccer mom driving a Hummer or an asshat commuting to his desk job in a Cummins Ram pick-up. And how many 30HP cars can you run off the gas one SUV burns?

LooneyTunes 2007-08-19 04:07:31 PM
NO pIC? Or did i miss it??? sounds like the LE Car from the 80s..you guys ever seen traffic in india ? I think there was a post with a link a few months ago...Its not gonna get better..but most of India lives on less than a $1 a day so I wonder how many of these are gonna get bought...I see alot of financing going on.

Any idea on when the new swedish low cost car company is going to start up? I think they will be called Vulva.

//OK, so they are Indian-American Tatas

And I'm sure India wants to get on the enviromental bandwagon and help stop global warming, of all those cars they will sell with that population, will they all run on E-85 and have catalytic converters? ;-)

Guairdean 2007-08-19 04:13:12 PM
A low cost plastic car? It's already been done. The Trabant (new window)

No, but they'll each burn 1/10th the gas of a 300hp SUV

Yeah, when you call plastic "polymer", it sounds freakin awesome! Oh and aluminum (or any metal) needs to be "alloy". If you have anything that could be called "composite", by all means do it.

Softens_hands_while_you_do_the_dishes 2007-08-19 04:18:36 PM
Are these idiots getting into the car business or are they just catching on to the 70's skin rag phenomenon? I'm getting confused. What's next, the new car company from Poland, Swank Motors.

Softens_hands_while_you_do_the_dishes 2007-08-19 04:19:45 PM
Oui Autos from Scotland? I'm sorry. I'll stop. If you can pronounce the name of this old skin mag you'll get the lame joke.

Softens_hands_while_you_do_the_dishes 2007-08-19 04:21:21 PM
actually Ireland! Alright, my skit is perfected. Who wants to tell me how to sell this to some stand up comic.

Guairdean: A low cost plastic car? It's already been done. The Trabant (new window)

It's not the only one, and the Trabant may have been low cost but was unattainable by the masses anyway. And plastic cars - corvettes are plastic for crying out loud.

Softens_hands_while_you_do_the_dishes 2007-08-19 04:23:18 PM
This could be Stewart grade shiat here. someone get me in contact with an agent already. Pfft :).

But shouldn't everybody in the world be concerned about the environment? Or just us ugly Americans?

BTW I don't have a 300hp suv, just a 4cyl econcar and a small 6 cyl minivan.

The Alfa Romeo Spider Vagina...

I've driven an 88 with a 430hp GM crate motor shoehorned into it. Definitely NOT overrated :-)

verchad: But shouldn't everybody in the world be concerned about the environment? Or just us ugly Americans?

Of course, but a 30 hp car will pass most CO2 exhaust regulations in the West. Emissions will hardly pass 100 g CO2 /km. Or do you say that the Indians have to be more concerned than anyone else?
