kingMountain [TotalFark] 2007-07-22 12:12:52 AM

The planet is going to become a lot more boring.....as is the wait in the grocery line.

I am going to miss Batboy. }-(

I'm madder than a conservative lothario at the Republican national convention hospitality suite with his hand up Ann Coulter's little black skirt!

HOw can they DO this?

I have a stack of WWNs from the 80s and 90s that I just never could part with. They're classics. "Man weds head of lettuce", "Pie in the face kills circus clown", and my personal favorite(s), "World's fattest baby!"

I remember when they caught batboy. He got stranded on a rooftop when the Mississippi flooded. He was still wild back then, and not the government scientist he is now. He was just a baby back then!

Now I feel bad for all the enjoyment my family and I got from it in the checkout line. We should have bought a copy now and again instead of making fun of the articles.

/or maybe not

I wonder if Bat Boy can be handed over to some other fake news outlet? Has anyone contacted Fox?

That was my great-grandma's favorite newspaper. She believed every word of it. Seeing WWN at the grocery store makes me think of her.

If I remember correctly, there is an X-Files episode that at least eludes to this very thing.

I went caving once where Bat Boy was 'discovered'. I don't think the owners of the cave gave permission to WWN to use it in the Bat Boy saga, but they were amused by it all. They had a bunch of cut-outs from WWN as decorations in the gift shop.

I think FOX contacted them - reliable sources do tell us that management turned down at least one offer to buy the publication.

The only news I read when I'm on vacation.

I used to buy that every week and bring it into work for everyone to read and laugh at. 'course, I worked phone and e-mail tech support. Anything was a relief and intellectual stimulation compared to the customers/other employees/management.

Nice reference, CtrlAltDelete. Wasn't the World's Fatest Baby issue hanging on the fridge in that movie?

Oh, and I loved the issue where scientists found the planet Hell by listening to the screams from across the universe. Awesome. I'm kinda sad now. Sniff.

I am SO proud that the first p-to-tha-ost lamented what will prove to be the greatest loss of all: Ed Anger.

/curious if I subverted the filter or if I'm pwned yet again

Baby_Firefly 2007-07-22 03:35:58 AM
Damnit. I've had aspirations of working for (and eventually taking over) WWN for years.

Let this be a lesson, kids - go for your crazy ideas while you can.

It's OK you guys... Batboy has moved to South America and is living in a Utopian compound with Elvis and Hitler. Bigfoot visits once a month, and Nessie sends postcards.

One more I saw a few years back had saddam and bin laden getting married, and included pictures of their honeymoon. I think there was pictures of them going down a roller coaster together, I was dying in the check out lane.

ye olde shiza 2007-07-22 03:43:33 AM
This is a sentimental moment. I don't go to people's funerals and say, "Hey! Chill out guys. It's just your mom!"

Weekly World News raised me in aisle 7 when I was abandoned by my parents. Aliens taught me how to read! Dammit, Jim!

kinabrew:

They probably finally got something right.

Actually, they quite often salted real articles in with the fun stuff. I recall several times reading an article about some scientific development and then a few days later reading about the same thing in the weekly Science News. Scooped by Eddie Klontz!

This is so very sad. Pig-bitin' sad.

kicker_conspiracy 2007-07-22 04:13:29 AM
It is a truly sad day. I can't believe it. I thought I once read that WWN outsold TIME magazine.

How will I keep informed of where Satans face appears now (in Kuwait, in a US Heat Wave, in Hurricane Katrina).

//I actually own the Ed Anger book (If I remember, its "Let's Pave the Rainforests and Give Teachers Stun Guns.")
