The 90s, no question.

Korn: Freak on a Leash

It's not the 80s fault. They just didn't know any better

I'll grant you there was quite a bit of good music in the 90s, but the last 5 years of that decade was mostly godawful.

There was, however, a TON of good stuff to come out of the 80s. It's no longer in style, but there was a lot of innovation and creative experimentation back then.

No, I am not old.

Neither, they were both worse.

The late 90s music may have sucked, but it was the golden age of music videos.

Gaboo 2007-06-23 10:28:38 AM
Hard to say. In general, 80's music sucked ass- but videos were a new phenomenon and that's what made them awesome. Too lazy to search and link, but see: AhHa - Take On Me and Michael Jackson's Thriller.

I lost interest in watching videos in the 90's even though the music is way better. Plus, they seemed to stop telling stories and just went with either concert footage of the band, or just random images of things not related to either the band or the song playing in the background.

In summary, it depends whether you are watching them for the music or for the video.

Boooooo!

Just one example of late 90s horror. And this was one of the BETTER bands getting airplay back then. SERIOUS slump in the late 90s.

Oh, and I am not commenting on the music, just the videos.

Creativity and imagination. What's become old hat was positively thrilling back then. I'll never forget the first time I saw this video circa 1985 Take On Me

See, I can't read.
I JUST NOW saw that this is a question of VIDEOS.
Damn, I need more sleep, I guess.

Anyway, I didn't have cable, so I didn't catch much MTV. I haven't seen as many videos as many of my contemporaries.

No, I am not sorry.

mryoop789 [TotalFark] 2007-06-23 10:36:31 AM
The 80s might have an edge just because it was all so new back then.

I'm going with 90's:

Candlebox -- Far Behind

Girl Pants 2007-06-23 10:38:13 AM
In before Rickroll.

80's and I was only 9 when they ended

Take on Me

Thriller

Take one look at this video and you will know that the 80's were the king of music videos.

Show me ONE video - ONE VIDEO - in the 90's with an exploding piano, a fish flopping on the floor, and a hand with an eyeball in it throwing green paint everywhere.

I always loved the cheesy hair band videos, like van halens hot for teacher.

80 def. Life wouldn't be the same without the Dead Milkmen and biatchin' Camaro (NSFW)

Inward Singing 2007-06-23 10:42:13 AM
One word: Safety Dance

For real though, '90s. The '80s just didn't have the technology. But I think we can all agree the '00s "watch a group of people do the same choreographed move 10 times" sucks though, and that goes for both pop, rock, and hip hop.

And this was going to be the Boobies in the thread but the power company has deicded that my house is not particularly important therefore I am suffering constant brownouts on the whims of retarded coontwaffles that can't go 30 seconds without having 6 different heaters turned on and can't be bothered paying for a full set of energy efficient light bulbs, causing my router and PC to reset and random intervals.
Awesome.

But at least I had time to add the Tool videos.

Yay, I get to whore out both my videos! Eighties, man, who doesn't love Erasure?

Well, it is a video...

80's. Exhibit 1: The Cars, "You Might Think". A groundbreaking video, and a great song. Plus, Ric Ocasek is married to a hot Supermodel.

I grew up in the 90s and I can safly say 80s had better music.

I mean come on! thats era when Metallica and Michel Jackson didn't suck. Besides half of the 90s were ruled by freaking boy bands and teenage cocktease. the 90s was just one of the worst 8-9 years of mucsic ever. (Didn't like that grunge / r&b boyz 2 menz part of the 90s either. But thats just me)

SpeshilEdjukashin [TotalFark] 2007-06-23 10:46:42 AM

I don't use Farkit, it appears we've been filtowned. :/

Honorable mention - from the 00s so it doesn't qualify

Royskopp Eple (pops)

psychohaulic 2007-06-23 10:47:26 AM
Why are so many people linking "Take on me"? That song is the embodiment of everything that sucked about 80's music. If the 80's had one hope, it would be the Talking Heads.

DragoonBoy 2007-06-23 10:47:30 AM
The 90's for videos, no question. Do The Evolution.

It's weird to look back at some of the early 90's, late 80's videos and see shiat like you see on the Tunak Tunak video.

Jacques Lestrap 2007-06-23 10:47:33 AM
