Now that's a nicely played piece of satire.

I worked in a company where we had to rewrite all our customer docs to not say "master drive" and "slave drive" . And for email, we never had a "black list, " we had a "allow list."

UberDave [TotalFark] 2007-06-22 10:15:17 AM
I kind of like "Nappy Headed Gravity Zone"....

Generation_D: to not say "master drive" and "slave drive" . And for email, we never had a "black list, " we had a "allow list."

That is just idiotic.

Seriously.

I would have gone crazy working at the place. I can tell.

I've always been partial to "giant vortices of suckage".

Marcus Aurelius [TotalFark] 2007-06-22 10:39:43 AM
The last time I heard the phrase "super high", it had nothing to do with black holes.

They really need to add a "mega" to make it more technical. Like, "super mega high".

Theaetetus 2007-06-22 10:47:21 AM
This has the asinine tag because the Submittard didn't realize it was satire?

dedekind_cut [TotalFark] 2007-06-22 10:48:22 AM
Ummm, how about gravitational singularity?

nobozo 2007-06-22 10:49:45 AM
Macaca zones?

some_wild-eyed_8-foot_tall_maniac 2007-06-22 10:57:04 AM
dedekind_cut: Ummm, how about gravitational singularity?

That would imply that there's a singularity at the center of every black hole, which is probably not the case.

Marcus Aurelius: I've always been partial to "giant vortices of suckage".

Not good. We would have to distinguish between Britney Spears and/or Paris Hilton...

Super Suckers?

Originally named in reference to the fact that light cannot escape their intense gravity, the term 'black hole' was increasingly criticized as being insensitive to African-Americans and African-Europeans.

Ain't newspeak grand?

Scooby's'pawn 2007-06-22 11:42:07 AM
I hope this is satire.

Please, please, please let it be satire...

The human race is doomed. Get out yer popcorn. It's going to be a bumpy ride to the end.

Scooby's'pawn: Please, please, please let it be satire...

Yes.

Yes it is.

There may yet be hope for humanity.

Weaver95: "Originally named in reference to the fact that light cannot escape their intense gravity, the term 'black hole' was increasingly criticized as being insensitive to African-Americans and African-Europeans."

Ain't newspeak grand?

It's also insensitive to African-Africans.

So is satire.

Yeah, and it's so far out there that it could never possibly happen, right?

Considering the article underneath is titled "Running With Scissors Now Federal Offense", I'd say you're pretty safe.

"the term 'black hole' was increasingly criticized as being insensitive to African-Americans and African-Europeans."

But evidently it's ok to be insensitive to African-Africans.

Dude, did you really not realize it was satire? "The standard of excellence in pseudojournalism" didn't clue you in?

There is a word that can describe the stupity of people feeling the need to do that.

Represented mathematically:

(Level of asinineness) = (stupidity of Paris Hilton) * (speed of light)^2

woodstock827: I'm hoping this is satire news.. anyone can confirm?

Seeing as the site calls itself: "The Standard of Excellence in Pseudojournalism" I'm thinking that's an affirmative on the satire.

bmnurmi: Where are the complaints about "White Dwarves"?

Those were orignally named "Honkey Dwarves".

RadioactiveApe 2007-06-22 12:52:30 PM
I prefer the term "chocolate starfish"

helix400 2007-06-22 12:52:51 PM
What, that parody actually got me.

I went in knowing that "black hole" doesn't translate too well into French culture. And so when I see it "changed" to a French sounding name, I was hooked.
