Will they stamp the passports with branding irons?

NeverDrunk23 2007-06-07 07:48:14 PM
Well, it is like a whole other world down there.

FTFA:
Perry said the wiretapping would help bring down violent drug and human smuggling gangs.
...

"This bill removes bureaucratic hurdles when seconds count and lives are in the balance," he said.

So it begins...

\continues, actually...

wouldn't it just be simpler to give back Texas to Mexico?

OregonVet [TotalFark] 2007-06-07 09:39:59 PM
I'm sure the fed will withold some tax dollars in order to force them into it.

thesubliminalman 2007-06-07 10:32:24 PM
Who wants to go to texas?

DD0 [TotalFark] 2007-06-07 10:33:05 PM
I hate living here. Almost everyone I run into that is from Texas is a total moron. There's a very small part of Dallas that makes life ok here, the rest of the state is like a society of zombies.

Krymore 2007-06-07 10:36:44 PM
I'm all in favor of giving Texas back to Mexico. It'll keep all the warmongering fundamentalist 28%ers occupied ridding the world of a different group of evil satanic brown people while preventing them from farking up the Middle East any more than they already have. Eventually they'll either get wiped out by the Mexicans or declare their little fascist theocracy of Jesusland for a little while and collapse within a few years from the deficit. Sounds like a pretty decent plan to me.

Troll much?

As for any complaints about Perry I have this to say:

"Don't blame me, I voted for Kinky."

AuralArgument 2007-06-07 10:41:48 PM
And just what other country would recognize it? If I was a border guard I'd just say sorry Texas isn't a country your not allowed in mine.

Uh, oh, you just opened the gates of hell by saying that and misusing an apostrophe twice in the same sentence. That's pretty much fark suicide right there.

willbefree 2007-06-07 10:42:43 PM
It's amazing that this is the first time I've heard that Washington State has a similar license to go to and from Canada. All border states should do this. I need another TJ fix.

thepostess [TotalFark] 2007-06-07 10:43:06 PM

Di Atribe [TotalFark] 2007-06-07 10:44:57 PM
Oh geez. Another Texas-bashing thread. Did you guys even read the article? It's not Texas issuing their own passports, it's Texas incorporating the US passport function into the TX driver's license card. And geez, Perry is only exploring the legality of the whole thing. It's not a bill, it hasn't gone before the house so can we all calm the fark down about it now?

storduff 2007-06-07 10:45:24 PM
Screw that, I already have a passport I don't wanna pay extra for a driver's license.

Robert_MrX 2007-06-07 10:46:07 PM
Texas should have a passport that forbids exit of the state to residents. Not so much of a passport, i know. But it would stop them from spreading

Well, Mexico will recognize it. They aren't too thrilled with what the new passport requirements are going to do to their trade and tourism...

bob#? 2007-06-07 10:47:26 PM
Texax should be it's own country. They'd save a lot of money by not needing to fund their own official military.

MannaxOne 2007-06-07 10:48:04 PM
Just got back from TX a few days ago. I go to TX one a year for an anime convention (A-kon (shameless plug)). It would be a pain to have to get a passport to go into TX every year.

/No, I didn't read the article, I only have a few minutes left on my break.

Di Atribe [TotalFark] 2007-06-07 10:48:35 PM
Seems to me like they're trying to alleviate the cluster caused by the US government requiring passports for travel to (or just from?) Mexico & Canada.

No... not even close. It would be for travel to/from Mexico. Not NEW Mexico.

Dumber than someone who doesn't know how to use apostrophes?

Somacandra [TotalFark] 2007-06-07 10:54:09 PM
Well, to be fair, they were an entirely separate country and recognized by the U.S. as such before being admitted to the Union.

Pickerel: What about New Jerseyites?

Uhh...we're actually pretty smart, dude. From what I last heard, the state average intelligence was ranked fourth in the nation. Jersey's also very beautiful in most places, but people refuse to admit it. It's a nice place to live that isn't full of retards.

As for Texas, well, I say we let them secede.

corn-bread 2007-06-07 10:56:37 PM
This is the same "secure driver's license" proposal that the state of Washington is trying out. Washington's proposal already has DHS approval, and if the trial is successful then the secure licenses could be a substitute for a passport when entering the U.S.

/Still against the whole "passport to enter the U.S." idea.
//DHS needs to go.

I keed, there's a lot of really nice people from Texas. The obnoxious cowboy booted, hat wearing fat men with belt buckles bigger than their firsts that continually drawl about they'd never allow this many damn n1gg3rs and "homersexerals" in Dixieland are generally just the ones that stand out in the memory. In most things we tend to remember the negative better than the positive unfortunately.

(Yes. I ended it with a preposition.)

Oh. So it's totally awesome when Washington does it. It's stupid and backwards when Texas does it. I see how this works.

/I just want to see what would happen.
//Come on, you know you would watch that on TV.

bedspread 2007-06-07 11:15:42 PM
i could be wrong but.... wasn't a part of the agreement between Texas and the US that Texas could leave the union ,if the citizens of Texas voted for it.....

basically they could return to being their own country again....

or was that wiped out after the War of Northern Aggression?

Mayor McCheese 2007-06-07 11:17:40 PM
You should have to have a passport to come down to Texas.

Agree with DD0, they are all the same. Cant' figure out where the independent part comes in. Lived here for nearly two years and have yet to meet an independent thinker.

Better watch out or else Texas will split into five states and have 8 more Senators.

Texas Annexation Resolution

Third -- New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas and having sufficient population, may, hereafter by the consent of said State, be formed out of the territory thereof, which shall be entitled to admission under the provisions of the Federal Constitution

mrbun 2007-06-07 11:26:36 PM
I heard Vermont wants to issue passports too, put up border checkpoints, "nationalize" US government assets, etc... Oh yeah, that's called seceding from the Union.

Maybe Texas could do the same thing, it is like a whole other country. Then they could "nationalize" that ranch in Crawford.

studebaker hoch 2007-06-07 11:27:05 PM
Texas never quite got over the fact that they were this close to being their own country, but punked out.

Instead of being a small country, now they're just a big state.

Occasionally, they kind of try to act like they actually made the bigtime.

/L00zorz.

Mayor McCheese: Agree with DD0, they are all the same. Cant' figure out where the independent part comes in. Lived here for nearly two years and have yet to meet an independent thinker.

It's simple--all the independent thinkers collectively agreed that you're a simpleton asshole who's nowhere near as interesting as you seem to believe.

Don't believe me? Move. Nobody will like you there either.
