Why not go a little more specific subby? Maybe X-Acto?

Said one victim: "As a queer, feminist writer who explores the darker aspects of human nature, many of my stories deal with incest, rape and child molestation. I don't like being lumped in with rapists and pedophiles and other 'monsters on the Web.'"

Maybe if you stopped writing about rape, pedophilia, and other monstrous deeds...

Oh, and I bet the razor blade she buys to end her pain will be her first.

See, this is exactly how I figured out that ol' Sam Clemens was a racist.

Well, you get what you pay for. And with most LJ accounts that's a whole lotta nothin'. If you're worried about your free speech being infringed upon, you really need to get your own site.

mister aj 2007-05-30 11:01:40 PM
After trawling around the related angst on LJ communities, you find out that they did the deletion based on keywords in interests. Like 'rape' or 'child molesting' ... turns out a few people used LJ to vent about their experiences as a rape victim or survivor of child abuse. They just got violated again, which is pretty damn funny. Or not, depending on how much of a human behind you are.

/hilarity ensues
//subby

Dawg47 2007-05-30 11:03:17 PM
depending on how much of a human behind you are.

That's hilarious. I don't know if it was intentional, but it totally works.

reverbblue 2007-05-30 11:04:15 PM
OH come on. You know her writing is going to be awful if she defines herself as a queer feminist. Bleh. People who define themselves based solely on what gender they like to fark are morans.

mister aj: they did the deletion based on keywords in interests.

Yikes, that's unfortunate. Other than that, I have no problem with LJ limiting its content - if you want to post rape/pedophile fiction and your free service shuts you down, pay for hosting and set it up yourself.

Torc 2007-05-30 11:05:42 PM
It said the deletion was prompted by activist groups, including one called Warriors for Innocence

Mistake #1: doing anything a group called Warriors for Innocence tells you to do.

taursir 2007-05-30 11:06:03 PM
Maybe people should actually try finding out what their kids are up to, so the rest of the internets aren't punished for someone's lazy parenting.

plastroncafe 2007-05-30 11:07:24 PM
I won't pay for LJ anymore, but they can't keep me from posting there for free....until, you know, I advocate illegal behavior that pisses off some right wing loony group.

You think supporting Gay Marriage would do the trick?

Lehk 2007-05-30 11:08:04 PM
the correct way to deal with this is to identify the activist groups, then identify their leadership/membership and make those individuals' lives hell.

obviously such acts are forbidden here, but there are other places which in fact specialize in such devastation. once these pressure groups are unmasked a few times, others like them will learn to leave the internet alone.

reverbblue: People still use livejournal?

Beats the living hell out of crapspace.

I least I have a client, editing tools (that actually work) and I don't get spammed there.

Nice communities structure, easier to read and keep up with, and the feeds work very well.

I cant see much to biatch about it. Not too sure how I feel about the wholesale deletion thing, but hey, its a business, and they don't owe you shiat. They run it the way they see fit. Much like this site. Don't like it, make your own.

Seeing as my "el jay" got deleted for my various long winded and graphic but deeply poetic descriptions of how one might masturbate a goat, I think I will fill that void with Fark.com:

Today my friends and I did some marijuana cigarettes and discussed how damn beautiful everything was. I came so close to losing my virginity. Also, I don't know if you've heard of him, but I found this great band called Bob Dylan. Maybe later I will buy a new scarf, as I lost mine at the last Whiney Pissants concert. Anyway, I have to go because I'm filling out a quiz about which anime character I am. Cheers.

(Wonders aloud if they are going to go after those (shocking, and [in my opinion] distasteful "pro-ana" groups.)

Then again, my opinion is just that, and I wont force my viewpoints on anyone. I'll give my opinions, but they are more than welcome to have their own.

csi_yellowknife 2007-05-30 11:19:15 PM
Apparently the shota/loli communities (anime/manga based on sexualizing pre-teen kids) is angry and unsure what to do in a society that looks down on drawings of 8 year old boys being seduced by much older men.

To see what you missed before the took some of this down, Google Cache is still there for you (very NSFW):

On the other hand, the less Harry Potter fanfiction where Harry and Draco get it on with Snape, the better.

Withour reading through the posts, I'll bet there is something about free speech in here from someone who obviously doesn't understand that protection under the Constitution is from the Government, not private companies and people.

It is funny how many people really just don't understand the first amendment at all.

I should probably not touch this one without some asbestos frillies on, but...

Do you think that maybe there's a hypocrisy when we here complain that we can't post an undefined "excessive" number of bikini pics in a thread, and then make fun of the folk at LJ for complaining about being censored?

/First they came for the whiny, emo gothtards and I did nothing because I was not a gothtard.

Shadow Blasko 2007-05-30 11:24:21 PM
(further pondering after RTFA)

Why don't these groups (some of whom *are* catering to a pedo market) simply drag their sorry asses over to literotica or fictionmania where that kind of shiat has a formum, separated from the rest of the good *adult* smut?

Want a support group? Have one. Wanna discuss every lurid detail of the dreams you have had since molested as a 12 year old... I am not sure a public forum on LJ is the place.. but once again, thats just me.

/Not sure how child related erotica (or stories discussing events happening to *young* children of a sexual nature in a detailed that seems to be catering to catering to an "erotica" .. not "account of what happened" style of writing) is considered therapeutic in nature, but I am sure someone will be along shortly to debate that. Essentially the difference between a court transcript and a hentai for humans. Both could describe the same thing, but they are hard to compare non?

(Possibly the longest slashy in history)

gradatim 2007-05-30 11:24:46 PM

I wonder how this translates in communities that have a lower age of censent than the U.S. To my understanding, the age of consent in the states is 16 to 18, but in Europe or Asia, it is often 13 to 15. Not to mention our harsh statutory rape laws (2 15-year-olds is okay, but a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old is a felony).

thisdaydreamer [TotalFark] 2007-05-30 11:29:30 PM
I am a survivor of sexual abuse and, while I don't base my life on it, I have written about it on LJ. I find it more than a biatchilling that LJ is relying on information from an anti-gay vigilante group to shut down journals and communities that write fan-pr0n or serve as support groups for people who have had similar experiences as I have.

I have a paid LJ account.

I am not emo or goth.

I just want the freedom to write about my life without being silenced because I list an interest that someone wasn't comfortable with.

Oh and furry pr0n? Out. Any kind of pr0n could lead to suspension and deletion.

Jesus Sideways Christ.

...I shouldn't be suprised. I grew up with a girl in highschool who was very much into that crap. She was into her avatar (boy character she drew to represent herself) being raped by gay vampires.

I dunno. It's just another reminder on how farked up some people are.

/I wonder if these people go to McDonald's and do nothing but stare at children in ballpits?

Have you ever seen some of this stuff? You would know if you did. I ran across one cross-posted to a "What in the hell?" group. I was two paragraphs in before I realized this smarktard was talking about, essentially, toddlers. *shudder*

Not my cup of tea... and I don't care if it is someone elses. I just don't want to read it, and I'm pretty sure 6 apart doesn't wanna be hosting it.

Dooner 2007-05-30 11:31:09 PM
Damn. How am I going to find unedited, terribly written, totally self-serving stories about Harry Potter getting it on with Snape, now that Snarry69's LiveJournal account has been shut down?

bubbaprog [TotalFark] 2007-05-30 11:31:12 PM
1. I should note that one being a "queer feminist" is not a commentary at all on their personal sexual preferences; I, a straight male, could be a queer feminist. It is a statement of personal philosophy/research interests.

2. LJ went on a mass-banning crusade without bothering to examine the content of the users or communities; thus the community dedicated to literary criticism of Nabokov was deleted.

3. It came absolutely without warning.

4. LJ only exists because of its users; it depends entirely upon its users to write and thus to create content. Fark could exist, believe it or not, without any of us; it wouldn't be the same, but it would still attract traffic (realize that only a small percentage of people who visit Fark actually have user accounts). LJ has responsibilities to its users because without them, LJ has no revenue stream.

thisdaydreamer [TotalFark] 2007-05-30 11:31:34 PM
Oh, and by the way, I have no problem with predatory types being shut down. Too hell with them.

But what about those of us who have never hurt anyone, never want to hurt anyone, and wouldn't protect someone who has done harm?

And what about the slash fiction writers? WTF?

Thing is, they deleted literature communities that listed "Lolita", the novel by Nabokov, as well. This thing swept wide, cut deep, and Livejournal didn't announce a damn thing, nor thus far give a way to get legitimate journals back, pissing MANY people off.

/yes, I use Livejournal and have for 2 years now.
