By the way, was this movie released in the UK as "TMHT"?

/obscure?

Ninja Turtles is number one!? I'll be damned.

Just looked it up...they're estimated to make 25 million this weekend. With a little more than half of that going to the film companym with a 34 million dollar budget...yeah, it's sequel time.

And in all honesty, if it'd just been shredder...again...it would've been lame.

Anarchangel 2007-03-25 05:50:07 PM
Yeah, but what about Krang and Baxter Stockman and Bebop and Rocksteady and the Foot Clan and Rat King and Wingnut & Screwloose, and, and, and...

By the way, everyone watch this right now.

The best review for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 ever.

The Foot Clan is in it.

I was sure this movie was supposed to be more akin the old comic books. Instead it's some weird CGI looking crap.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2007-03-25 06:11:42 PM
Who was surprised by this? PG rated CGI turtles. Of course it beat 300.

Not on fark my friend.

I flipped my lid when I found out that bit of information. "HOW THE FARK DO YOU HAVE HERO TURTLES?! THEY'RE NINJAS!!!"

No Shredder = why i'm reluctant to see it. That and I'm 22 now.

2ndprize 2007-03-25 06:40:03 PM
Not to spoil anything, but they allude to Shredders return in the sure to happen CGI sequel. Sadly though the movie was just too tame for my tastes. I will go see the next sequel anyway though. God damn nostalgia.

Oh hell, I'm 25 and I went to see it with some friends on Friday. It was good. Needed more of that little red monster. He was a trip.

botsects 2007-03-25 07:09:14 PM
I went to go see it with relatively upbeat expectations, but the movie left me with a "meh" feeling about the franchise.

The voice acting is unbelievably shiatty. Splinter, voiced by Mako (who died last year btw), spoke in this slow, choppy Engrish. I knew it was bad when I saw it in theaters, but the shiattyness became more apparent when I re-watched the first TMNT movie later that day. Splinter's voice is smooth and refined -- dramatically better.

/Much of the other voice acting left much to be desired.
//A lot of the shiatty CG, such as the bland military flashback in the beginning, confirmed many claims about the sloppiness of the production.

master_of_rayality 2007-03-25 07:12:23 PM
Just took the kids to it this afternoon -- definitely a bit more gritty than previous versions. Never a big fan of it growing up, so I had nothing to be disappointed about. Kids liked it, said it wasn't the best film they ever saw, but it was nowhere near the worst, either.

Overall, it was decent -- the wife and I thought the animation was amazingly detailed for CGI. There's a scene with Raph and Leo fighting each other in the rain that looks pretty darn cool.

Oh, and I'd hit April with my bo staff.

Electrify 2007-03-25 07:13:16 PM
I don't understand WHY with the new TMNT (cartoon and movie) they feel the need to have them always fighting space aliens??? The Turtles vs. Shredder have always been the main conflict (well, outside of the comics 10 people read), but instead they always have them go against these strange freaks with no real character or memorable qualities to them. Hell in the new cartoon, even Shredder is supposed to be some stupid alien!!! Turtles vs. Shredder is like Mario vs. Bowser, or Superman vs. Lex Luther. Even when the Turtles were fighting other baddies, they made multiple appearances and were memorable, plus they never overshadowed the Turtles vs. Shredder conflict.

Seriously, stop trying to fark up perfection. People loved the Turtles and Shredder, they did not love the Turtles and some stupid alien that no one really cares about. Until the producers get this through their heads, they have lost touch with the generation that made TMNT special.

Only read half the posts, but I'm going to jump in here with my drunken $.04
I'm 27. I was 9 when the first movie came out. I went to the theatre in a damn ninja turtles costume (god, please don't tell me I invented cosplay). I just finished watching the new movie about half an hour ago.
It farking rocked. Best reinvention of a series since battlestar galactica. Anybody who watched the turtles growing up, go watch this. Seriously. Take it with a grain of salt, but there were definitely some homages to the first movie (especially one line with Casey Jones and Raph "two minutes for high sticking" and the last line of the movie). Yeah, it's aimed for kids, but it's dark, it's slick, it's fun, and I actually laughed out loud a couple of times. And I'm actually looking forward to a sequel. For a bitter, drunk, jaded 27 year old farker, that's something.
Ok, I did just look at a previous post. Splinter was the only part of the voice acting I didn't like. It made me think of the priest in Princess Bride ("TWUE Love), without the irony. Otherwise, I thought the voices were great. And hey, Kevin Smith as the diner cook, good cameo. Patrick Stewart was awesome, and Sarah Michelle Gellar certainly did the job as April. I thought the turtles sounded fine and had good emotion.
And Electrify, the original comics killed off Shredder at the beginning, this is just picking up right after. Though the Foot biatch at the end did hint he might be coming back. I, for one, am willing to check out the next one.

Sweet! I might check this one out. And I agree, nothing beats the whole secondary characters they came out with to keep the toy line going.

I don't care how good or how crappy a Turtle movie is, it belongs in the theater.

Farkansas Native 2007-03-25 08:19:54 PM
One thing I liked about the movie was they had Kevin Michael Richardson voice one of the big statue guys.

Most people will remember his voice as being Sarevok in Baldur's Gate.

Also, can anyone confirm that they misspelled Michaelangelo's name in the titlebar they tossed up when he first came on as "Michelangelo?"

paranand 2007-03-25 08:28:01 PM
ok, so I was just skimming through the credits, and they list somebody with the last name "tang" right above somebody with the last name "poon." Should have been reversed, just for fun.

you can't make this shiat up, though I guess with all the Hong Kong studio people...
anyway, still got a chuckle

Saw TMNT yesterday, and found it thoroughly enjoyable for what it was. Yes, it was a far departure from the first 3, but it was good, because they could do a lot of really good things with the CGI, and they were able to put in some really cool shots/transitions/fights. Don't go if you expect the best movie ever, although if you're expecting the best movie ever in a CGI movie made for 12 year olds, just go kill yourself now. GO expecting an hour and a half of shiny fun, and bring your inner child too.

/24, saw all 3 originals in the theater too.

motherbuster 2007-03-25 10:34:59 PM
Also, can anyone confirm that they misspelled Michaelangelo's name in the titlebar they tossed up when he first came on as "Michelangelo?"

They've been using the correct (Renaissance) spelling of "Michelangelo" since sometime in the mid-90s, I believe. The original spelling was actually the typo.

The reason there's no Shredder in this film is that he's dead - it's a sequel to the other TMNT films. Who wants to see a whole film devoted to that cause again, anyway?

Farkansas Native 2007-03-25 11:13:24 PM
motherbuster:

heh, that works.

Just wondered cause every single turtle figure I have spells the name as "Michaelangelo," so I just wondered. (Yep, even the live-action TMNT show on that "FoxBox" thing spelled it that way)

Electrify.

I really recommend reading the original Mirage TMNT books. They dealt with aliens, monsters and other sorts of freaks in the first 25 issues. While the Foot Clan was a big deal in the cartoons and the comics, the TMNT also dealt with otherworldly terrors just as much if not more.

I went to go see it Friday. I liked it. It was not everything I could ever hope it could be and more. It WAS however great for what it was. Which is a bridge for the next one.

They way they used it to set up a sequel and really restart the series was very cool.

I laughed out load MANY times. The characterizations were spot on. And after looking at the turtles long enough I realized they really were the PERFECT looking mix between the live action and cartoon turtles.

/Loved TMNT since I was a wee one.
//Actually wore my TMNT t-shirt from when I was 9 to see it.
///HEY! I was little, the shirt was huge and I never expanded much since.
////Except my chest and hips. God did love me enough to give me curves.

I went to see this movie on Saturday with a few friends and I'd rate the movie as a "meh".

The plot/story just didn't get me at all..I knew it wasn't going to be Shredder vs the Turtles but...just the way they did the story was not good IMHO.

The graphics/CGI looked good and they did have some nice action scenes in it but...meh..2 or 3 stars out of 5 at best for me.

And yes I watched the first 3 turtle movies when I was a kid/younger and liked those 3.

Others have touched on it but I'll say it again, I didn't like Splinter's voice at all...sounded a bit mentally retarded or something...very slurred and not right. Same with that Foot Clan chick...but at least she was a bit better.

And the model(s) of the females in the movies were "meh" at best too :p All way too skinny/long faces....

Anyways...

mooseyfate 2007-03-26 12:26:41 PM
I completely enjoyed TMNT. Yes, the first two (third one doesn't even exist to me. I hated it.) will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart, but I really enjoyed this new one. The Turtles looked cool, the action sequences where awesome; though I do wish they'd slowed it down JUST a tad so that I could actually take it all in; and the story wasn't half bad considering it was a Ninja Turtle movie. I'm glad that the days of Bebop and Rocksteady are gone because lets face it. As kids, I like seeing them square off against the Toitles, but now-a-days, they just don't do it. They're too 80's style.

I do agree that the face models were a little too extreme, but it wasn't enough to ruin the movie for me. And I don't know why anyone's biatchin' about Splinter's voice. I thought it was pretty kickass. Altough I would've liked it better if Ken Watanabe was the voice of Splinter. And the female Foot Clan leader-lady...her voice gave me a half-stock, I'm not ashamed to admit.

Casey Jones was still cool, too, which I wasn't expecting. I was expecting him to be some over-played out asshole, but they did well. It didn't even bother me that the Human Torch was his voice, because I hate that guy. All around, nothing was overdone too much to ruin the movie, and I had a good time watching it. I'm definitely going to get it on DVD and I can't wait for the next one.

/Umm, dude...You DO realize that my only weapon is a wooden baseball bat, right?

Cameron_Talley 2007-03-26 12:28:03 PM
I thought the movie was awesome. Just the right tone--not too serious, but not stupidly zany like TMNT II/III and the Original cartoon were.

Still, I have a feeling a lot of people my age whose only exposure to the turtles is the 87 cartoon will come out of it and go "WTF?"

The new movie was boring as shiat. I love how the 'immortal warrior' didn't even FIGHT in it. Freaking load of fark. PLUS there wasn't any humour in it, even dark humour, none at all. And the fighting was too cartoony. I mean ralph Vs the foot ninja on the rooftop in #1 and at the tire factory or w/e in #2 were really farking cool. I mean badass. But the fights in this movie were just boring, even Leo vs Ralph, it had tension, but the moves were crap. Splinters voice also pissed me off. Terrible. It should have been krang coming down to earth and resurrecting shredder or something.
